By the time the raindrops stopped attacking, the enemy's numbers had fallen by nearly half.
The leader had escaped unscathed behind the protection of his underlings, but he had watched his men die horribly, one after another.
Then he looked at Cordis, who stood a short distance away without a scratch.
He could not quell the rage inside him.
He shoved aside the underling blocking his path and stormed to the front.
A hammer larger than a person, covered in spikes, suddenly appeared in his hand.
"You little brat! Today's the day you die!"
With that, he swung his hammer and charged at Cordis.
Cordis remained where he stood.
His azure eyes watched the man charging toward him without a trace of emotion.
The sight made Chrollo, watching from the sidelines, hold his breath.
What was he doing?
There was no water left nearby. How was he going to block this blow?
He really had underestimated him.
This man was just as Hisoka had described.
So entertaining.
Gripping his enormous hammer, the leader leaped hundreds of meters into the air, then raised it to bring it crashing down on Cordis from above.
When he saw Cordis still standing there, doing nothing,
a smug smile spread across his face.
"Hahahahaha! Giving up already? I haven't even made my move!"
Just as the man came within a few meters of Cordis,
everyone present felt an unbearable sense of suffocation, as though all the air around them had been sucked away in an instant.
Fortunately, the suffocating sensation lasted only a few seconds before everything returned to normal.
The Spiders still stared blankly at Cordis in the distance.
All except Chrollo.
Chrollo gazed at Cordis's back in delight, unable to hide the joy on his face.
Now he finally understood the principle behind Cordis's Nen.
But even more astonishingly,
the leader, who should have landed on the ground by now, had somehow been frozen in midair.
It was as though threads had bound him.
The leader struggled fiercely several times, only to find that it did nothing.
If this was Cordis's Nen Ability, there was no reason he shouldn't be able to see it.
But the truth was right before his eyes.
Nothing was restraining him, yet somehow he couldn't move.
It was as if invisible threads hung before him.
But that made no sense!
The leader's brain clearly could not handle that much thinking.
Seeing that he could not escape no matter what he did,
he shouted at the underlings behind him.
"What are you standing around for? Get him! Anyone who refuses can wait to die!"
His underlings did not dare linger after hearing that.
They unleashed their Nen Abilities again and charged at Cordis.
Watching the crowd surge toward him,
Cordis merely took a deep breath.
As he exhaled,
he swept his hand through the air.
The few men at the very front suddenly stopped.
The men behind them had no idea why those ahead had stopped so abruptly.
They merely felt a sense of foreboding and instinctively stopped as well.
The men who had stopped first
began to convulse, and then, for some unknown reason, great gushes of blood erupted from their mouths, noses, eyes, and ears.
The sight resembled the fountain from the beginning.
Now Cordis had water again.
Only this time, the pool water had been replaced with blood.
Those struck by his attack finally realized that their blood was draining rapidly.
They hurriedly tried to cover the openings in their faces with their hands, desperately hoping to stop the blood from flowing.
But it was all futile.
The blood seemed to flow even faster.
Eventually, their bodies began to blacken as the blood inside them was gradually drained away.
One by one, those strong, healthy young men shriveled into skin-covered skeletons weighing only twenty or thirty pounds.
Naturally, the blood that had gushed out gathered toward Cordis.
None of those watching could make sense of the scene.
Still suspended in the air, the leader continued goading his underlings into charging forward, heedless of their lives.
But after witnessing that, who would still dare attack?
The leader could sense his underlings' fear as well.
Furious, he snapped,
"Hurry up and get him! Otherwise, I'll kill every last one of you when I get down!"
As soon as he said that, a deathly silence fell over the men below.
"I can't take this anymore!"
One of the underlings spoke with a tearful face.
"We die if we attack, and we die if we don't. We fought tooth and nail to survive the Hunter Exam. I never thought we'd end up dying in a place like this."
His words immediately struck a chord with the others.
They unleashed their Nen, but this time their target was not Cordis. It was the leader hanging in midair.
"Brothers! Kill this bastard, and we'll be free!"
No one knew who had shouted it.
The underlings who had still been hesitating charged at their airborne leader without a second thought the moment they heard the word "free."
Cordis knew how to read the mood, too.
At those words, he lowered the leader to the ground, though he kept him bound.
Seeing his former underlings rush at him like madmen,
the leader abandoned all pretense of a boss's dignity.
With a thud, he dropped to his knees before Cordis.
Tears and snot streamed down his face as he pleaded,
"Buddy, I admit I was a little loud earlier. I'm begging you, please let me go."
Cordis did not answer.
His azure eyes regarded the man as though he were already dead.
Then, expressionless, he took a few steps back.
He left the stage to them.
When the leader turned around, he found a crowd of furious underlings standing behind him.
They unleashed their Nen Abilities on him, as though venting all their anger.
There were Nen users in the group who could heal.
Whenever they saw that the leader was about to die, they healed him just enough to keep him breathing.
Only after the burly leader had been reduced to a great puddle of mangled flesh
did his underlings gradually stop attacking.
Looking at their dead leader, the men felt strangely lost for a moment.
Their leader was dead.
Did that mean they were free?
But where were they supposed to go now that they were free?
They had long since handed their Hunter Licenses over to the leader as collateral.
What could they do now?
With that question in mind, the underlings gradually scattered.
Each headed toward an unknown future.
Seeing that the battle was over,
Chrollo clapped as he slowly walked toward Cordis.
"That was truly impressive, Cordis. I think I have a rough understanding of your Nen Ability now, but would you mind explaining it in more detail?"
Cordis was genuinely startled to hear that Chrollo already understood his Nen Ability.
But he soon felt that it only made sense.
After all, this was the head of the Spider.
"My Nen Ability is called [Flowing Woman]. As the name suggests, it lets me control anything that flows."
Finished.
Cordis's Nen Ability is [Flowing Woman].
The name is still tentative.
My friend said it sounded really edgy.
I'll change it if I think of a better one later.
