Asanuma's concession brought a pleased smile to the officer's face. But just as he was about to step forward and make his position clear, another crisp female voice filled him with fear.
"Officer, what sort of case requires you to look for clues from an elementary school student?" Jin Nanjiang's voice came from nearby.
"These officers don't quite live up to their titles. I really wouldn't feel comfortable entrusting public safety to people like them," Zheng Fan said mildly.
"Hmph, there are outstanding officials like me too. We're just not very common," Jin Nanjiang said proudly.
"Ah, it's Big Sis and Brother Zheng Fan!" Takato had heard Jin Nanjiang's voice too and couldn't help shouting.
Jin Nanjiang appeared before them with her arm linked through Zheng Fan's.
"Officer Jin." Moguki Kanzo immediately bowed ninety degrees to Jin Nanjiang, his bow even more precise than Asanuma's. He had recognized her the moment she spoke. However conflicted he felt, he still had to maintain an outwardly respectful attitude toward her. He even put on an expression of righteous resolve.
"Yes, I know you. Moguki Kanzo, one of Inspector Megure's men." Jin Nanjiang accepted his bow without the slightest hesitation, every inch the superior officer.
"May I ask where your uniform is, Officer Jin?" Having paid his respects, Moguki Kanzo raised his head and stared at Jin Nanjiang, waiting for an explanation.
"I'm in plain clothes. Never seen that before?" Moguki Kanzo was blunt, but Jin Nanjiang's tone was even more overbearing. Her arrogance was utterly unrestrained.
"I'll include tonight's events in my report. You'd best watch yourself, Officer Jin." Having delivered his threat, Moguki Kanzo turned and left.
Although their respective positions required Moguki Kanzo to show Jin Nanjiang only superficial respect, she had never expected to get along with these colleagues
