The soldiers panicked at the sight of Zeyechuan and Carla suddenly appearing.
"What's going on? He appeared out of nowhere!"
"Is he an invisible Titan?"
"Are there Titans that small? He's obviously human."
The soldiers erupted into a flurry of speculation.
The special operations squad and the Survey Corps soldiers, however, remained silent and on guard.
"Quiet!" Shadis barked with authority.
Everyone fell deathly silent.
"Who are you? Do you realize this is a capital offense?" Rico shouted fiercely at Zeyechuan, taking two steps forward.
"Come any closer and I'll kill her!" Zeyechuan was terribly nervous. He had never expected to get caught here.
He had never imagined that one missing cleaner would put the entire camp on alert. That damn Keith Shadis was such a simp! Zeyechuan seethed inwardly. He had no way out now except to use Carla as a hostage.
"Let me handle this," Hange said, stopping Rico.
Rico let her take over. Negotiation was not her strong suit.
Shadis glanced at Carla's calf and frowned deeply. Mike's earlier slash had grazed it, and the sight of her bloodied leg made his heart ache.
"Well, well! Are you Mr. Titan? Tell me, what would it take for you to release this innocent lady?" Hange asked Zeyechuan with a smile, rubbing her hands together.
"Let me out right now, or I'll kill her!" Zeyechuan snarled. In truth, killing Carla was the last thing he wanted to do. He knew that if she died, Eren would unleash the Rumbling, and he would be doomed too.
He truly did not want to live in this backward island nation. He wanted to go to the mainland, where things at least resembled a modern country.
