Background / History

Shiganshina and the Fall of Wall Maria

Eren wants to join the Survey Corps before Shiganshina falls. Bai Yu describes him as sufficiently determined that even his family is unlikely to stop him 2.

During the breach, Bai Yu saves Carla from a flying boulder. Eren and Mikasa reunite with her and evacuate alongside Xiate while Bai Yu searches for Ishi. Carla’s survival does not change Eren’s ambition: aboard the refugee boat, he declares that he will join the Survey Corps despite Carla and Mikasa’s objections 6 8.

Within Wall Rose, Eren becomes furious at residents who resent the refugees. Mikasa restrains him, but his rash behavior costs the group their dinner. His father remains missing 9.

Training with the 104th

Eren joins the 104th Training Corps with Mikasa and Armin. He frequently asks Bai Yu about expeditions and the outside world, but cannot clearly remember when he received his father’s basement key 18 25.

Bai Yu’s instruction includes hand-to-hand combat, prolonged horse stances, and drills targeting joints and vital points. Eren challenges him despite knowing he cannot win, treating the encounter as an opportunity to become stronger 28 36 37.

Reclamation and Memory Experiments

Eren’s Attack Titan participates in the successful clearing of Trost. His powerful attacks make the planned coordination exercise difficult, with one punch nearly striking Mikasa 88.

On the journey to Shiganshina, an Abnormal Titan ambushes the soldiers, killing three and injuring Eren. He transforms and kills it, after which Erwin orders that he must obtain permission before transforming again, regardless of the circumstances 100.

Following Wall Maria’s reclamation, Bai Yu tests Eren’s reaction to contact with Historia. The resulting memories reveal Grisha’s killing of Historia’s sister and Eren’s own consumption of his father. Personality

Eren is stubborn, freedom-driven, and eager to improve. He persists in his Survey Corps ambitions despite his family’s fear, and willingly challenges a vastly stronger instructor to learn from him. His promise to Armin that they will see the free world outside remains a personal reason to survive 8 28 68.

His temper can make him reckless or harsh toward others. He reacts angrily to anti-refugee hostility, argues with Jean over the Survey Corps, and initially rejects Mikasa’s comfort after his injury. He nevertheless accepts Bai Yu’s advice to apologize to her 9 55 73 74.
