The man lying on the floor, Shu, heard this and his teeth chattered. He knew just how cruel Yamori was. He would follow through on a threat like that. But after glancing at Haruka, who was just as frightened beside him, resolve quickly returned to his eyes, and he gave Kaneki a meaningful look.
Haruka was his girlfriend. If one of them had to die, he would rather die for her.
Kaneki had clearly seen Shu's look, but he didn't dare choose, because it would feel as though he had killed them himself.
"Choose! Hurry up and choose! The man? The woman? The one on the left? Or the right? Pick one, now!" Yamori glared at Kaneki, relentlessly forcing him to make a choice...
"There's no way I can choose something like this!" Kaneki was already on the verge of a breakdown. He gritted his teeth as he spoke.
"Huh?" Yamori released Kaneki, straightened up, and cracked his fingers.
"Fine... I'll help you..." Yamori let go of Kaneki, stepped past Shu, who had crawled forward of his own accord, and grabbed Haruka by the neck, immediately tightening his grip.
"Choose, now!"
Yamori's strength was immense. In just an instant, Haruka's face flushed red.
"No... If you have to kill someone, kill me... Let her go, let her go!" Kaneki began pleading with Yamori, his voice thick with tears.
"Mmph!" Shu saw it too and desperately tried to attack Yamori. But realizing that his bound hands and feet left him unable to move, he turned an even more determined gaze toward Kaneki.
That determination quickly turned to pleading. He struggled with his entire body and managed to work the bandage loose from his mouth.
"Mr. Kaneki! Choose me!"
But just then, with a sharp crack, Haruka's neck snapped under Yamori's grip.
