"Kaneki should be here." Louis looked at the domed glass ceiling supported by steel beams, released his glider, and dropped from the air, using his momentum to kick through one of the panes.

With a crash, Louis fell along with the glass.

The hemispherical building was spacious and empty. Almost all its decorations and furnishings had been removed.

"So empty..." Louis scanned the interior. Almost everything had been cleared out, but the shape of the place told him at a glance that this was where Yamori had tortured Kaneki.

It was nowhere near the location Banjō's subordinate had given him. Yamori must have noticed Banjō's betrayal and moved elsewhere.

One end of an ice chain hooked onto the ceiling, while Louis held the other. With a clattering sound, the chain steadily lengthened, bringing him closer to the ground.

The interlocking links made the otherwise rigid, straight crystalline material flexible, but inevitably produced noise, making it unsuitable for infiltration.

Louis no longer cared about that, though. To him, Yamori was now merely a formidable enemy, not an unbeatable one.

Louis lowered himself to the floor with the ice chain and looked at the person in the chair.

Kaneki's once-black hair was gone, replaced by a head of white hair. He was not unconscious, either. Instead, he stared blankly at the floor beneath his feet, his thoughts unreadable. Nothing happening around him seemed to have anything to do with him.

There was no fear, no panic. The youthful innocence on his face had disappeared, replaced by endless indifference.
