Huang Zhetian tried to protect Asuka and steer the Children through the Bird Angel and Womb Angel attacks, but his apparent death and resurrection as a clone shattered their trust. As Kaworu revealed himself as the final Angel and broke into Central Dogma, Huang and Shinji moved to stop him.

• Huang Zhetian met Kaworu Nagisa, restrained him from harming a kitten, and later joined Rei Ayanami and Asuka in fighting the Bird Angel, which plunged Asuka into painful memories.
• Huang Zhetian rescued Asuka from Unit-02, and Rei Ayanami hurled the Spear of Longinus to destroy the Bird Angel.
• The Womb Angel attacked Rei Ayanami and Kaworu Nagisa, and Huang Zhetian absorbed it with the Special Unit before activating the unit’s self-destruct.
• Huang Zhetian appeared to die, but he secretly returned in a clone body and pretended not to recognize Shinji, and Ritsuko Akagi later revealed the truth about Rei’s vessels and Huang’s clone to Misato and Shinji.
• Asuka learned that the original Huang Zhetian had died, fought his clone, and later attempted suicide, and Misato rescued her and suspected someone was trying to make Kaworu Nagisa Unit-02’s pilot.
• Misato learned that Kaji was alive, while Kaworu told Shinji he liked him and warned him to avoid Huang Zhetian, and Kaworu also accepted that triggering Third Impact was his purpose.
• Kaworu activated Unit-02 without entering its Entry Plug and broke through Central Dogma’s barriers, prompting Gendo Ikari to send Unit-01 and the Special Unit after him.
• Huang Zhetian and Shinji confronted Kaworu, who admitted he was an Angel and could control Unit-02, and Huang embedded the Power Stone in his palm and struck Kaworu’s A.T. Field.

Huang Zhetian helped bring Kaworu Nagisa’s assault to an end, then used the Infinity Stones to restart the world and left Asuka with his memories. He awakened in the Rebuild timeline, where he met Asuka again and began preparing to protect the pilots and change the events ahead.

• Huang Zhetian killed Kaworu Nagisa at Lilith, and Shinji grieved after hearing Kaworu’s final words.
• SEELE attacked NERV and launched the Mass Production Units, while Huang Zhetian and the pilots fought to prevent Third Impact.
• Shinji rejected Instrumentality, and Huang Zhetian restarted the world with the Infinity Gauntlet after sealing Asuka’s memories.
• Asuka recovered her memories of Huang Zhetian, found him before he left for another world, and promised to wait for his return.
• Huang Zhetian awoke as a surviving clone in 2007, met Asuka Shikinami, and set his sights on protecting key characters and reaching Minus Space.
• Huang Zhetian moved in with Misato in Tokyo-3, then deployed in the Special Unit and killed Shamshel before Shinji piloted Unit-01.

Huang Zhetian joined the EVA pilots and helped defeat several Angels while growing closer to Shinji, Rei, and Asuka. After Unit-03 was infected and Shinji was forced to attack Huang, Shinji left NERV, the Tenth Angel struck, and Huang's clone set out to find him.

• Tianxiajian left home after arguing with his mother, then decided to set his novel aside and seek work after the New Year.
• Huang Zhetian trained Shinji Ikari, welcomed him into the class, and fought alongside him against the Fifth Angel, then brought Shinji back after he ran away.
• Huang Zhetian and Shinji joined forces against the Fifth Angel, Ramiel, and the Seventh Angel, while Rei, Asuka, and the other pilots became part of their circle.
• Huang Zhetian and the pilots helped stop the Eighth Angel, and he encouraged Asuka as Gendo planned to use him as Unit-03's test pilot and seal him afterward.
• An Angel infected Unit-03 during Huang Zhetian's test, and Gendo ordered Unit-01's Dummy System to attack it while Shinji refused to fight his friend.
• Shinji damaged NERV Headquarters, confronted Gendo, and left after refusing to pilot again, while Asuka mourned Huang and vowed to fight the Angels.
• The Tenth Angel attacked Tokyo-3 as Asuka and Mari prepared to fight it, and Huang Zhetian's clone emerged from the medical pod to find Shinji without revealing who he was.

After Third Impact, Huang Zhetian helps WILLE rescue survivors, establish a settlement, and seize the Nevada Branch while Gendo Ikari prepares new threats. Kaji dies saving his crew, Huang Zhetian awakens and reunites with Asuka, and the arc ends as Black Rei and a new Angel appear.

• Huang Zhetian helped stop Third Impact, rescued survivors, and supported Kaji as WILLE began rebuilding and establishing Village-3.
• Asuka and Mari defended WILLE’s fleet from Mass Production Unit-07s, and Huang Zhetian helped secure the Nevada Branch for WILLE.
