Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Martial soul awakening; innate level 9.1 | 228 229 230 | Awakens the beneficial boar-and-rake mutation later named Marshal Tianpeng. Its quality reaches the peak of the ninth grade, with spiritual awareness at the threshold of an embryonic stage. |
| First soul skill: Wind-Calling Ears | 250 | Demonstrates enhanced perception and flight. The first ring's age and his level at acquisition are not specified. |
| Level 20 | 255 | Reports having reached this threshold more than two months before absorbing his second ring. |
| Level 22 — Soul Grandmaster | 255 256 | Absorbs a seven-hundred-year Emerald Cloud Luan Phoenix ring. The Divine Wood Heart activates and shatters during absorption, awakening his wood attribute and five-elements eye technique. The latter is subsequently distinguished from his actual second ring skill. |
| Level 23 | 588 | His recorded level when Chen Xiaojun returns from the secret realm. |
| Level 24 | 588 | Breaks through within days of that return. |
| Level 26 — Battle Soul Grandmaster | 588 | Eighth-grade spiritual medicine supplied by Chen Xiaojun raises him another two levels. |
| Level 27 | 808 | Announces the advancement before fighting Ma Liang, at age ten. |
| Third soul skill: Tianpeng Battle Armor | 918 | Demonstrates armor that increases strength, defense, and endurance by 100% each. |
| Fourth soul skill: Six Ding Divine Fire | 928 1384 | Uses the fire against concealed enemies; it is explicitly identified as his fourth soul skill later. |
| Level 40 | 1197 | Recently reaches the threshold without an immortal-herb enhancement. |
| Level 42 → nearly six levels higher | 1382 | Absorbs the Primordial Immortal Herb, greatly increasing strength and purifying soul power. Its initial effect takes him to approximately level 48. |
| Level 52 — Soul King | 1524 | His explicitly stated baseline before receiving a life-energy enhancement against Elephant Armor Academy. |
| Five soul rings confirmed; sixth ring pending | 1968 1976 | Displays all five rings. Chen Xiaojun recommends a defensive, earth-oriented sixth skill; no sixth-ring acquisition is documented here. |
Temporary Combat Enhancements
These increases are battle-specific enhancements, not confirmed permanent breakthroughs.
| Enhanced Level / Strength | Chapter | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Soul King-level capabilities | 956 | Tianpeng Divine Armor, Golden Bell Shield, and allied support skills raise his overall combat capabilities to this standard. |
| Approximately level 55–56 | 1384 | Life Force Awakening boosts him during the Ruian Team battle. |
| Level 56; upper Soul Emperor attack power | 1406 | Life Force Awakening, Tianpeng Battle Armor, Rage Wheel, and his Dharma Body combine for an all-out strike. It remains insufficient against a Soul Saint-level spear attack. |
| Peak level 59 | 1524 | An influx of life energy temporarily releases seven levels of latent potential from his level-52 baseline. |
Background / History
Zhu Wuneng is the third child of Zhu Tianhao and Ding Dang. His paternal family had served alongside the Chen Clan's direct lineage for more than a century, providing durable, defensive companions to successive heirs. His father regards personal service as a source of pride, but also understands its severe risks and casualties 10 80.
Before awakening, Wuneng trains with Chen Xiaojun in conditioning, fist techniques, and the rake techniques inherited from his mother's family. Chen Xiaojun jokingly predicts that his parents' martial souls will combine into a boar holding a rake—and proposes the name Marshal Tianpeng before the mutation actually occurs 10 13.
At six, Wuneng already fights effectively beside his older siblings during a Wolf Bandit attack. He times his rake strikes to wound enemies who breach their line or push them back into his siblings' reach. During the same crisis, he carries Chen Feng on his back and assumes responsibility for protecting him 149 153.
His awakening makes him a major investment for both the Zhu and Ding families. Chen Yu brings him to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well despite its restricted access, allowing the elders to pool their expertise and resources around his development. Nearly four years of medicinal baths emphasize physical foundations rather than rapid leveling 228 230 588.
The isolated training environment also leaves gaps in his general education. He and Chen Xiaojun plan to return to Chenlin Village for two years of Clan School instruction to recover lessons they missed 605.
Appearance
- Childhood build: A round-faced, plump boy described as cute; he remains slightly stocky at age ten 10 228 808.
- Under martial soul possession: His physique becomes imposing and muscular, his posture steadier, and his bearing markedly more commanding 233.
- Wind-Calling Ears: His ears expand into enormous wing-like structures that flap to lift him into the air 250.
- Martial soul manifestation: A later display produces a three-meter-tall upright Stone Armor Boar with angular yellow keratin armor and two enormous curved tusks 1968.
- Divine manifestation: Another transformation presents a majestic rake-bearing figure with golden rings at its neck, though its face remains blurred by insufficient sustaining power 1190.
Personality
Wuneng is boisterous, cheeky, and highly responsive to an audience. He boasts about his looks, jokes at his friends' expense, and becomes more animated when spectators cheer him on. He also enjoys good food, sometimes showing more interest in a meal than in the political circumstances surrounding it 280 424 588.
His frivolous manner conceals considerable judgment. In battle, he deliberately understates his strength, provokes opponents, and exploits their impatience. Away from competition, he is approachable enough to become friendly with Yu Zhengjun after defeating him 594 804 809.
His courage is tied to a strong sense of responsibility toward Chen Xiaojun. He charges into dangerous attacks to protect him, but accepts criticism when reminded that allowing his master into repeated danger is a failure of his attendant's duties 444 643.
His confidence is less secure than it appears. Watching Chen Xiaojun and Xiao Yi advance creates anxiety about falling behind, while his relationship with Gao Cuilan exposes worries about his attractiveness and worthiness. Nevertheless, he insists that setbacks only strengthen his resolve 552 595 1178.
Abilities & Skills
Marshal Tianpeng
- Symbiotic structure: Combines the Stone Armor Boar and Nine-Toothed Rake rather than functioning as two unrelated martial souls 229 1976.
- Attributes: Ultimately possesses metal, water, fire, earth, wood, and strength. Wood awakens through the second-ring absorption process 255 464 1382.
- Physical advantages: Exceptional strength, endurance, protective keratin, and deep soul-power reserves support prolonged battles against higher-ranked opponents 590 592 808.
- Development potential: Its beast and tool components continually evolve and deepen their fusion, allowing extremely slow improvement in innate aptitude 1970.
- Training weakness: By the sixth-ring planning stage, Wuneng has overdeveloped his rake usage and neglected the boar component. He has not yet comprehended his own intent 1976.
- Proposed remedy: Chen Xiaojun advises separately displaying and training each component, despite the lower grade of an isolated manifestation 1976.
Wind-Calling Ears
- His first soul skill detects enemy movements and helps him react in advance 250.
- Additional soul power enlarges his ears into wings, enabling controlled flight and aerial maneuvers 250.
- While airborne, he can hear distant sounds and perceive wind changes and small ground vibrations 250.
- Flight does not guarantee safety: Yu Zhengjun repeatedly closes the distance and forces him to block rather than evade 592.
Peach Blossom Eyes
- Identified as his second soul skill, distinct from the Five Elements divine light 256 1127.
- Testing shows that wood-attribute soul power activates the ring-based eye ability; other tested elemental attributes fail to do so 256.
- The provided passages do not establish its complete effects.
Five Elements Destruction Divine Light
- Origin: A legacy eye technique awakened through mutation, not the skill granted directly by his second soul ring 255 256.
- Mechanism: Releases destructive five-elements power through his eyes; the elemental interaction multiplies its destructive force severalfold 255 464.
- Early demonstration: Pierces a massive tree and leaves five distinct elemental marks 255.
- Growth: Strengthens with cultivation, physical transformation, and spiritual understanding. At the Soul Grandmaster stage, it already rivals Soul King-level power 1543.
- Renaming: Originally called Five Elements Annihilation Divine Light. Wuneng personally changes “Annihilation” to “Destruction,” acknowledging that erasing all things without leaving life behind remains beyond him 1543.
- Classification: Chen Xiaojun identifies it as a rule-level profound art used as a killing move, whose full characteristics remain undeveloped at Wuneng's current cultivation 1545.
Tianpeng Battle Armor and Golden Bell Shield
- Tianpeng Battle Armor: His third soul skill raises strength, defense, and endurance by 100% each; it is also called Tianpeng Divine Armor in some passages 918 956.
- Golden Bell Shield: Creates a bell-shaped protective barrier capable of stopping Disaster Fish's flaming tail sweep and shattering Ma Liang's Phoenix Heavenly Blade 293 809.
- Layered defense: He combines armor, the shield, and support effects to hold the frontline against Wolf Bandits 956.
- Limits: Nelson Astana breaks the shield. A Shadow Fang Leopard Soul Saint's spear fails to pierce completely through his armor but still throws him back and injures him 957 1835.
Six Ding Divine Fire
- His fourth soul skill produces six blossoms of divine flame 1384.
- Dispels mirror-image clones and exposes a concealed enemy's real body 928.
- Merges with the Nine-Toothed Rake to form a fire domain that destroys phantoms and weakens a Soul Power Shield 928.
- Combines with Prison Wheel to create Earth Fiend Prison Wheel 1384.
- Can melt battlefield ice, but Skywater Academy's extreme-cold fusion skill extinguishes his flames 1562.
Breathing Techniques and Rake Combat
| Technique | Documented application |
|---|---|
| Flame Breathing, Third Form—Blazing Aura, Myriad Forms | Used during his close-range exchange with Yu Zhengjun 589. |
| Flame Breathing, Fourth Form—Blazing Flame Vortex | Neutralizes Yu Zhengjun's incoming lightning attacks 590. |
| Flame Breathing, Fifth Form—Flame Tiger | Blasts Yu Zhengjun more than ten meters away; later used against Ma Liang and Wolf Bandits 590 809 956. |
| Water Breathing, First Form—Water Surface Slash | A horizontal, water-vapor-wreathed rake slash used against Yu Zhengjun's intensified assault 591. |
| Water Breathing, Sixth Form—Twisting Vortex | Particularly suited to unstable footing or aerial combat; used after flying into Ma Liang's range 809. |
| Endless Circulation | Overwhelms Ma Liang and knocks him out of the sky 809. |
| Five-String Plucking | Generates powerful whirlwinds through rake movements 252. |
| Heart-Shattering Palm | A damaging close-combat technique refined through special training that subjects him to thirty consecutive defeats 1402. |
Heavenly Wheel Secret Arts and Dharma Body
- Rage Wheel supports a powerful all-out rake strike and the manifestation of an enormous Marshal Tianpeng Dharma Body 1406.
- The Dharma Body functions similarly to General Soul Avatar and is described as a Pseudo Martial Soul Avatar 1406.
- Even with stacked enhancements, his strongest documented use reaches only upper Soul Emperor attack power and loses to a Soul Saint-level spear strike 1406.
- Prison Wheel and Hell Wheel are also documented in his fire-based combat repertoire 1384 1562.
Control and Perception
- Three Thousand Weak Waters: A domain that immobilizes and drains opponents; it pins down five Elephant Armor fighters during Chang'an's victory 1524.
- Gravity and mountain phantoms: He combines intensified gravity with Weak Waters against the Ice Phoenix, then detonates five mountain phantoms. The restored Phoenix survives and breaks free 1565.
- Beast Type Seven-Space Perception: Used to assess concealed threats before allowing Ma Wencai to advance 928.
- Hexagram Magic Formation: Establishes a protective formation around companions absorbing soul rings 928.
- Earthquake Wave: Used to resist Ruian Team's coordinated magma and tremor attack 1382.
Martial Soul Fusion with Gao Cuilan
- Wuneng and Gao Cuilan possess a Martial Soul Fusion Skill, recognized as a significant connection between them 1127 1171.
- During an ambush, their shared anger and protective resolve align immediately when Gao Cuilan takes his hand 1835.
- The supplied passages do not establish the fusion skill's complete form or effects.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Nine-Toothed Rake — His principal weapon and the tool component of Marshal Tianpeng. A later manifestation features Five Elements Orbs at the end of its handle 233 1968.
- Handwoven bracelet — A gift from Gao Cuilan during the Chang'an Academy round-robin tournament 729.
- Healing pill — Taken after Ma Liang intervenes against Nelson Astana, allowing Wuneng to recover and rejoin the fight 957.
- Soul bones — Unleashed during the Ice Phoenix battle; the provided passage does not specify their names, locations, or origins 1565.
Relationships
- Chen Xiaojun — Master, childhood training companion, and cultivation adviser. Chen Xiaojun regards Wuneng as a younger brother and helps direct his medicine use, martial soul development, and sixth-ring planning 13 588 595 1976.
- Gao Cuilan — Romantic partner and Martial Soul Fusion partner. She gives him a bracelet, visits when worried about his safety, and declares that she has chosen him for life. Their families support the relationship, though the documented gift exchange is not a formal marriage agreement 729 1071 1128 1178.
- Dugu Fu — Close friend and fellow Personal Attendant. Together they are called the “Heng and Ha Generals.” Their teasing occasionally oversteps personal boundaries, but they complement one another in service and combat 947 1139 1177.
- Xiao Yi — Senior companion whom he addresses as “Big Sister Xiao Yi.” She rescues and heals him, while her rapid advancement contributes to his fear of falling behind 293 552 595.
- Zhu Tianhao and Ding Dang — Parents; the sources of his paternal boar and maternal rake inheritance 10 1139.
- Zhu Wukui — Older brother. Wuneng credits his sacrifices and poorer resources rather than dismissing his comparatively lower cultivation 843.
- Zhu Wuxin — Older sister, whose strength and authority visibly intimidate him 827 843 1040.
- Zhu Hongzhen — Great-grandfather, proud of Wuneng's talent and committed to directing his development 228 230.
- Zhu Yanfeng — Senior paternal relative and mentor. Praises his potential but sharply criticizes his neglect of the Stone Armor Boar component 230 1976.
- Ding Bingyuan — Maternal grandfather, involved in planning the development of his unusual martial soul 230.
- Yu Zhengjun — Former opponent who becomes friendly with him. After a second defeat, Yu accepts that Wuneng's superiority extends beyond psychological tactics 804 810.
- Ma Liang — Initially an arena opponent; later an ally who rescues him from Nelson Astana and fights alongside him 809 957.
