|---|---|---|
| Divine empowerment / god-and-lord union | 139 | Miquella embeds energy limbs into Leda’s body and channels divine power through her. She gains greatly increased strength, speed, regeneration, and sustained stamina, but Messmer warns that her mortal body cannot withstand the power indefinitely. |
| Return to mortal state | 142 | Melina severs the energy appendages connecting her to Miquella. The union ends immediately, and Leda is left unable to stand. Miquella’s charm is subsequently broken, without extinguishing her loyalty. |
Background
Leda lost her parents, family, and friends before Miquella saved her from starvation. When he later abandons her, she reveals that he was all she had left. This personal debt underlies her devotion independently of his supernatural charm 142.
She became a gifted knight highly valued by Miquella. Ansbach describes her as young and accustomed to success, while Dryleaf Dane considers her more talented than the rest of their companions but insufficiently tempered by failure 101.
Appearance
- Hair and eyes: Pale golden hair and lake-blue eyes 114 115.
- Build: A well-proportioned physique shaped by long-term martial training 115.
- Armor: Platinum-white and deep blue armor with gown-like lines and delicate lily engravings on the breastplate 88.
- Cloak: White, with gold-thread embroidery along its edges 88.
- Divinely empowered form: Radiant holy energy surrounds her, and golden vein-like markings spread across her skin. Miquella remains attached to her back through energy appendages 139 140.
Personality
Leda initially presents herself as composed, courteous, and utterly devoted to Miquella. She invites the Tarnished to help create a world without rejection or suffering, but dismisses his defense of free will as narrow-minded and accepts “necessary sacrifices” as part of salvation 88.
Her loyalty coexists with genuine concern for her companions. She apologizes to Kachacha for underestimating Hornsent warriors, struggles with leaving Freya behind, and promises to rescue the companions separated from her retreating group 98 100.
Repeated defeats expose her lack of experience with failure. Her confidence gives way to forced bravado, revenge vows, and finally psychological collapse as she realizes that the Tarnished has anticipated her escape routes 100 101.
Her feelings toward the Tarnished become contradictory after he protects her from further abuse: resentment and humiliation remain, but so do gratitude and admiration. Miquella notices this conflict and teases her about liking her enemy, which she vehemently denies 115 136.
After Miquella rejects her, Leda loses her purpose and stops resisting captivity. Even following her release, she treats defeat by the Tarnished as inevitable; by her final documented appearance, she describes his treatment of her as something she cannot resist and must accept 151 152.
Abilities & Skills
Light Greatsword Mastery
- Uses elegant, precise swordsmanship that targets vital points 89.
- Combines rapid slashes, thrusts, and defensive blade movements capable of intercepting incoming arrows 136 137.
- Adapts her approach when ranged attacks fail, closing in to concentrate her force through direct strikes 141.
- Her underlying martial skill is close to Rellana’s; divine support allows her to decisively overcome Rellana in their later encounter 140.
Piercing Needle
- Releases extremely fast golden beams from her sword, including a ten-needle volley used during the Lake of Rot ambush 88.
- Can target an opponent’s blind spots and force powerful enemies back 89 135.
- Uses it to repel Crucible Knights while attempting to escape capture 112.
- The skill can be interrupted: the Tarnished anticipates its activation and forces her to abandon it to defend herself 89.
Sacred Light and Summoning
- Crosses the Lake of Rot with golden rings beneath her feet that part the contaminated water into clean patches 88.
- Raises a golden pillar through her sword to resist Ranni’s Dark Moon. It lasts three seconds before shattering and injuring her 89.
- Summons Commander O’Neil and his Spirit Legion during the Lake of Rot battle 89.
Secret Arts of the Land of Shadow
- Knows an incantation taught directly by Miquella that opens a passage through the Empyrean’s Slumbering Cocoon 112.
- The passage-opening art is described as one that only an Empyrean’s followers can perform 112.
- Can locate Miquella through an unspecified secret art. The Tarnished exploits this ability to follow her to his hiding place 151.
Divine Empowerment
- Gains enough strength to drive Messmer into the floor, wound him severely, and damage his spear 139.
- Golden markings rapidly heal wounds, allowing her to keep attacking despite impalement and repeated impacts through stone structures 139.
- Moves faster than Messmer and the injured allied fighters can follow 141.
- Defeats forty-eight Royal Revenants and disperses Ashmi, though her golden radiance dims afterward 141.
- Still avoids attacks carrying the Rune of Death rather than receiving them directly 140.
- Depends on her physical connection to Miquella. Severing it removes the enhancement, while maintaining it risks destroying her mortal body 139 142.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Sacred Sword / Golden Sword: A slender light greatsword with a narrow blade and curved guard, bestowed by Miquella as recognition of her loyalty. It channels Piercing Needle and shatters when he abandons that loyalty 88 142.
- Knight’s armor and cloak: Her lily-patterned armor and gold-trimmed white cloak mark her initial knightly appearance. Her armor is extensively destroyed during the empowered battle with Messmer; her old knight’s armor is later returned when her labor sentence ends 88 139 151.
- Communications Medallion: Used to coordinate the assault on Caria Manor with allied operations 98.
- Concealed dagger: Hidden in an armored boot and used in an assassination attempt after she feigns surrender 112.
- “Dragon-Slaying Treasure”: A possession acknowledged by the Tarnished while discussing her planned escape past Lansseax; its nature is not explained 102.
Relationships
- Miquella — Savior, sovereign, and the center of her loyalty. His charm affects her, but her devotion survives its removal. He ultimately renounces their bond and rejects her attempt to return 102 142 151.
- Tarnished — Principal enemy, captor, rescuer, and repeated manipulator. His protection creates gratitude alongside hatred, while his later release of her serves another plan to locate Miquella 112 115 151 152.
- Ansbach — Veteran companion who supports her physically and emotionally during the retreat through Liurnia, shielding her fragile confidence from further damage 101.
- Dryleaf Dane — Fellow follower who believes she can grow through defeat. He stays to confront Millicent and instructs Ansbach to take Leda back to the Land of Shadow 101.
- Freya — Companion who holds off Bernahl and two Black Knife Assassins to enable the others’ retreat. Leaving her behind deeply distresses Leda 100.
- Moore — Companion who shields the retreating group from arrows and urges Leda to keep moving. She later invokes him in her vow of revenge 101.
- Kachacha — Hornsent warrior whom Leda apologizes to for underestimating his honor and skill; she later promises to rescue him 98 100.
- Tanith and Fia — Conduct coercive experiments on her in an effort to disrupt Miquella’s charm. Tanith later intervenes when the Tarnished mocks Leda’s renewed despair 115 152.
- Rellana — Rival female knight who first defeats her with moon magic, then loses their rematch against her empowered form. Rellana angrily condemns Miquella for discarding Leda’s loyalty 137 140 142.
- Messmer — Opponent whom she tries to subdue as Miquella’s prospective consort. He recognizes the lethal strain of her empowerment and condemns Miquella’s use of her 139.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Lake of Rot Ambush
Leda leads six followers in intercepting the Tarnished as he pursues Radahn’s soul. Her golden needles strike Torrent, throwing the Tarnished into the rot. She explains that Miquella’s followers are using the Suppressing Pillar to guide Radahn’s soul to the Land of Shadow, then unsuccessfully attempts to recruit the Tarnished 88.
The confrontation becomes a seven-against-seven battle when his allies arrive. Leda holds her own against him while Scarlet Rot weakens his body, but Ranni returns with Radahn’s soul and freezes the battlefield with the Dark Moon. Leda’s forces are driven into retreat 88 89.
Caria Manor Assault and Retreat
After acknowledging the Five-Party Alliance’s strength, Leda leads an attack on Caria Manor to reclaim Radahn’s soul. The apparent opening is deliberate, and the Tarnished already knows about her cooperation with the Haima Conspectus 98 99.
Freya covers the squad’s withdrawal. Leda attempts to escape north through the Lake Region and Ruin-Strewn Precipice, only to encounter successive ambushes. Her confidence collapses, and Dane stays behind against Millicent so Ansbach can take her onward 100 101.
The Tarnished later explains that he deliberately spared her because she already knows how to open the passage to the Land of Shadow 102.
Blood Temple Capture
Leda secretly returns to the Blood Temple to obtain Mohg’s corpse. Miquella intends to combine that body with Radahn’s soul to produce an exceptionally powerful warrior. Believing the temple poorly guarded, she begins opening the passage at the cocoon—only to discover another prepared ambush 112.
After an unsuccessful breakout, she feigns surrender and attacks the Tarnished with her concealed dagger. He incapacitates her, and Tanith takes custody of her 112.
Captivity and Conflicting Loyalties
Tanith and Fia subject Leda to drugs and torture while testing whether physical coercion can disrupt Miquella’s charm. Although they breach her mental defenses, the charm remains intact because its effect reaches the soul 114 115.
The Tarnished refuses their proposed sexual coercion, gives Leda an antidote, and cares for her. His restraint leaves her with conflicting feelings of shame, resentment, and gratitude. Tanith and Fia regard this contradiction as another means of undermining her attachment to Miquella 115.
She is placed in a solitary cell, with orders for extra food and water until she recovers. Later, the Tarnished plans to follow her expected return to Miquella, and Ranni locates her in the tallest High Tower ahead of the alliance 116 127 134.
Defense of Miquella
Leda blocks Bernahl’s attack on Miquella and helps her lord escape toward Shadow Keep. During the pursuit, she carries Miquella, intercepts arrows, and repeatedly places herself between him and the alliance 135 136.
At Castle Ensis, she shields him from another arrow barrage and accepts Rellana’s challenge in hopes of securing their release. Rellana defeats her with repeated moon impacts, and Leda then witnesses the Tarnished cut Miquella in half 137.
Divine Union and Abandonment
At Shadow Keep, Leda continues defending Miquella against Messmer despite broken armor and serious injuries. Miquella connects himself to her and channels divine power into her body, enabling her to fight Messmer in a destructive battle of attrition 139.
She subsequently defeats Rellana and attacks the Tarnished’s allies. The Tarnished and Melina finally coordinate an assault: he pins Leda with his shield while Melina cuts the energy connections to Miquella 140 141 142.
When Miquella’s charm breaks, Leda still reaches for him and begs not to be abandoned. He instead declares that he is abandoning the loyalty bestowed upon him. Her gifted sword shatters, and she collapses 142.
Labor Sentence and Second Rejection
Having stopped resisting, Leda is assigned to quarry stone for the Land of Shadow’s reconstruction. The Tarnished prevents Tanith from taking her for further “instruction” and later ends her sentence, returns her armor, and encourages her to seek a new purpose 151.
Leda decides to find Miquella and ask why he abandoned her. The Tarnished’s party secretly follows under Ranni’s Become Formless, allowing her locating art to lead them to Miquella at Jagged Peak 151.
Miquella again rejects her. Leda challenges the contradiction in his professed concern for all living beings, asking whether those he abandons are not included. The Tarnished later states that Miquella also tried to kill her. Back among the group, she sinks further into despair while Tanith objects to his continued exploitation of her 151 152.
