Liyue braced for an approaching horde of Demon Gods as Morax organized the defense at Mt. Tianheng. Morax confronted the Demon God of Strength, Eligor, who mocked him for facing the battle without his allies.
Morax attacked Eligor and his allies, using spear and bow techniques to kill their retainers before the battle escalated into a clash of summoned rock creatures. Surrounded by Eligor, two Demon Gods, and a massive host, Morax began to struggle as his protective shield cracked.
Azhdaha fought four Demon Gods and thousands of Demon God Retainers, using successive shields to withstand their attacks. When one Demon God bypassed him and charged toward Liyue, Azhdaha tried to hold off the others while the Adepti prepared to defend the city.
The Demon God Retainers overwhelmed the exhausted Adepti and began an all-out assault on Liyue. Xiu Yuan restored the Adepti, and they began evacuating the people toward the Guili Plains as the attackers closed in.
Ganyu began evacuating Liyue’s children as Demon God Retainers tried to collapse Mt. Tianheng and stop the escape. Xiu Yuan secretly reinforced the mountain, drawing the attackers’ fire and giving the Adepti confidence to fight back.
Ganyu evacuated Liyue's people to the Guili Plains while the Adepti fought the Demon God Retainers. A Demon God's signal convinced the other enemies that Liyue had fallen, leaving Morax to face Eligor's taunts as the battle continued.
While Morax fought Eligor, the Chi unleashed a catastrophic flood toward the Guili Plains. A masked man raised six enormous mountains to stop it, and the survivors believed Rex Lapis had saved them.
Xiu Yuan nearly succumbed to karmic debt and the Abyss, then realized he could not keep relying on luck to survive. When he returned to Liyue, the allied Demon Gods had withdrawn, and Morax learned how the Guili Plains had been saved.
After seeing the six mountains Xiu Yuan raised to stop the flood, Morax admitted to Guizhong that he had saved the Guili Plains. Guizhong broke down over her inability to protect her people and asked Morax whether a weak Demon God like her deserved to live.
Guizhong devoted seven days and nights to building the Guizhong Ballista so she could help protect the Guili Plains. After testing its power, she collapsed from exhaustion, and Morax caught her.
After comforting Guizhong as she resolved to build more Guizhong Ballistas, Morax slew and sealed the Chi beneath Qingce Village. Back in Liyue, he faced a crowd of armed residents who wanted to fight alongside him, and tested their resolve with his killing intent.
Morax equipped and trained the Thousand Rock Corps while the Adepti searched for the seven Demon Gods who had attacked Liyue. Three years later, Skybracer found the enemies near Dragonspine, and Xiu Yuan returned to offer to guard Liyue while Morax and Azhdaha went after them.
Xiu Yuan stayed behind to guard Liyue while Morax led the Millelith and their allies toward Dragonspine to fight the seven Demon Gods. Five days later, a Demon God and its followers entered Liyue.
The Dream Demon God invaded Liyue while Morax and its fighting forces were away, planning to destroy the nation and provoke Morax into a war with the other Demon Gods. Xiu Yuan stopped his retainers and confronted him, leaving the Dream Demon God with a spear pointed at his forehead.
Xiu Yuan drove off the Dream Demon God and freed his eight retainers. Five of them chose to follow Xiu Yuan and offered to serve him.
Xiu Yuan accepted the five Yakshas as Liyue’s Guardian Yakshas and gave them a residence on Mt. Tianheng. Seeing that they were unsettled by having nothing to do, he assigned them a simple task and left them with strict limits.
Xiu Yuan sent the five Yakshas to catch fish by hand, giving them a chance to relax together at Small Creek. Golden Roc smiled and cried for the first time after a hundred years of captivity, as his companions encouraged him to embrace the light and trust Xiu Yuan.
The Yakshas returned to Mt. Tianheng after staying out past sunset while fishing, fearing Xiu Yuan would punish them for disobeying his instructions. Xiu Yuan forgave their mistake and invited them to share the fish, leaving the Yakshas stunned by his kindness.
Xiu Yuan reassured the Yakshas that their late return was no serious failure, helping them relax and enjoy their time in Liyue. As they grilled fish and joked around the campfire, the group shared a cheerful evening together.
After half a year of peace, Xiu Yuan and the five Yakshas learned that Rex Lapis had returned to Liyue with the Thousand Rock Corps and the Adepti. The Yakshas became eager to test themselves against Morax, and Xiu Yuan agreed to arrange a sparring match later.
Morax honored the 1,420 Thousand Rock Corps warriors who died in the war by raising a memorial and promising that Liyue would remember and compensate the fallen. After returning to Xiu Yuan, Morax met the five Yakshas, whom Xiu Yuan had kept in Liyue after driving away their master.
Xiu Yuan arranged for the five Yakshas to help Morax compensate the families of fallen soldiers and reward the survivors, while Ganyu assisted with the extensive records. As Liyue’s leaders settled into their roles, Xiu Yuan taught the Adepti mechanism arts and considered further plans for the city’s future.
Xiu Yuan arranged a spar between Morax and the five Yakshas at Cuijue Slope to see what they could do. Their coordinated elemental attacks shattered Morax’s shield, leaving the match at a tense turning point.
Morax tested the five Yakshas, praised their strength, and learned how the Dream Demon God had controlled them. As Morax prepared to hunt the Dream Demon God, Xiu Yuan froze after unseen voices announced they had captured the Abyss and planned to seize his body and destroy the continent.
Xiu Yuan took control of the karmic debt threatening to consume him, then left to investigate the force pulling him toward Qingce Village. He made Morax promise not to search for him and said he would return before the Archon War ended.
