Frisk had a very, very long dream. She dreamed that when she fell underground, she hadn't met Linde, but a little monster who looked a lot like Toriel.
This monster rescued her, and she met Toriel and King Asgore...
The dream was rather hazy, and Frisk couldn't remember many of the details, but she clearly remembered that she must have been very close to that little goat.
"So, you're finally awake?" Linde looked at Frisk with a slightly aggrieved expression.
"Mm... how long was I asleep?" Frisk asked sheepishly.
The corner of Linde's mouth twitched. "You slept from yesterday afternoon until noon today..."
"Mm..." Frisk thought for a moment and decided to steer clear of that subject. "Oh, right, listen! I had a dream!"
Frisk told Linde what little she remembered of her dream. As he listened, his brows gradually knitted together.
These were clearly Chara's memories, which meant Chara was most likely attached to Frisk.
Although Chara had taken the blame for a lot of things and been terribly wronged, Chara was definitely no saint.
The clearest example was what Asriel revealed at the end of the pacifist route: Chara hated humanity, had Asriel absorb Chara's soul, and even tried to control Asriel into killing people...
Chara's past was probably especially dark, because this child had deliberately jumped into Mount Ebott to commit suicide. Even the cry for help had only been an instinctive reaction to how much the fall hurt.
Chara had truly experienced love in the monsters' world, but the enormous contrast between those experiences had also fostered an unhealthy mindset. The yandere Chara of fan works wasn't entirely without basis.
So, if possible, Linde didn't want too much contact with Chara.
Afterward, the two said goodbye to Martlet. It wasn't that Linde didn't want to stay a little longer; he was mainly afraid that seeing the yellow half of his soul would trigger her PTSD on the spot.
The two climbed back up the ladder to the top of the cliff.
Not far away, a monster was selling ice pops. Curious, they each bought one to try. They were sweet, and although they were ice pops, there was something inexplicably warm about them.
Next came the area with the snowball puzzle.
Linde found a way to send Frisk off to play with the snowball puzzle, then went to find Sans alone.
"Kid, want some Fried Snow? Only 5G," Sans asked with a grin.
Linde had always been curious about what Fried Snow actually was. In the game he'd played in his previous life, there was no way to buy it...
"Honestly, you wouldn't sell it even if I offered you 50,000G, would you?" Linde asked flatly.
"Oh, you figured it out. This stuff really is very precious to me." Sans closed his left eye and flashed his trademark grin.
Linde blinked. "Then what the heck is it?"
"You really wanna know?" Sans asked with a grin. "All right, I guess I can tell you. A little white dog gave it to me. I've spent ages studying it, but I still don't know what it's for."
Well, damn! A gift from the creator god, huh?! Linde had to hand it to a certain man named Toby.
"All right, enough chit-chat. Let's get down to business." Linde stepped forward and whispered something into Sans's ear.
"Heh heh heh... did you just say, 'I'm the legendary fartmaster'? Wow... that's really... uh... pretty childish." Sans still wore his trademark grin. "Why would you think that was a secret secret codeword? Whoever told you that must be a dirty liar. I don't have a secret secret codeword... however, I do have a secret secret triple-secret codeword, and it's exactly what you just said. So, I guess you passed the test. Here's the key to my room... it's time... you learned the truth."
Linde looked down, and the key was already in his hand.
Sans's Room Key obtained!
Grinning, Linde pulled Frisk closer, then tossed the key into her inventory.
"Huh?" Frisk read the item description, glanced at Sans, and pulled Linde aside. "How did you get your hands on this thing?"
Linde shook his head. "Tsk, tsk, tsk. Don't even ask. For this key, I became the legendary fartmaster."
"???"
Seeing Frisk's bewildered expression, Linde patted her head in satisfaction. "Don't think too hard about it. Let's get going, little Frisk."
The moment Frisk heard that nickname, she raised her little fist. But when she saw that Linde wasn't just unafraid, but actually looked a little expectant, she immediately deflated. "Forget it. No matter how much I hit you, you're never going to change. Call me whatever you want."
Linde pursed his lips. She's actually stopped hitting me. Looks like my trai... education has been pretty effective.
"What are you staring at?!" Frisk glared fiercely at Linde. "Watch where you're going!"
Linde couldn't help chuckling. She really was cuter this way...
The two continued onward and ran into the skeleton brothers again.
"HUMANS!!! I HOPE YOU'RE READY TO FACE... SANS!! WHERE'S THE PUZZLE?!!!"
The skeleton brothers were as reliably themselves as ever.
"It's right there, on the ground. Trust me, there's no way those two are getting past this one." Sans wore his usual easygoing grin.
On the ground lay a word scramble sheet meant for monster children. Linde studied it with Frisk in keen interest, and they began finding the words one by one-he'd never properly solved this thing in his previous life, so this time he was going to give it a good look!
