Sovereign of the Tagor Desert

Medusa has carried her people’s expectations since childhood, with the responsibility of leading them out of the Tagor Desert. The desert is incompatible with the Snake-People’s bloodline, making relocation a central goal of her reign. She seeks strength to secure a future for her people rather than to overthrow humanity 91 95.

The eight leaders of the Snake-People’s Great Tribes are all Dou Wangs. Although they refuse to submit to one another, they obey Medusa alone. Her palace lies in the Holy City at the center of their territories 83.

While searching for a Heavenly Flame, Medusa pursued Hai Bodong for a related Fragmentary Map. He escaped, but her Snake Seal Curse reduced his strength and left him hiding near the desert for more than twenty years. Medusa later explains that she abandoned the pursuit because gathering the remaining fragments would be difficult 74 97 101.

Obtaining the Green Lotus Core Flame

Roughly half a year before Xiao Yan’s investigation, Medusa visited the underground flame site near Stone Desert City. Qing Lin sensed the violent disturbance and her injured departure. Medusa successfully took the Green Lotus Core Flame’s seed, but an attempt to take its Lotus Platform injured her, forcing her to leave the platform and earth fire lotus seeds behind 75 79 93.

Medusa concealed the flame on an island inside her temple, protected by a poisonous lake and a flight restriction. She prepared a pool of ice spirit cold spring for the dangerous evolution process 92.

Gu He’s Incursion and Xiao Yan’s Offer

When Pill King Gu He arrived seeking the Heavenly Flame, Medusa negotiated through an energy projection. Yun Yun destroyed the projection, believing Medusa’s true body was occupied with evolution. In fact, Medusa had not begun evolving. Xiao Yan deduced that she was using the flame as bait to capture Gu He and obtain his services as a sixth-rank alchemist 88 89.

Medusa killed Gu He’s two Dou Ling companions, gravely injured him, sealed his cultivation, and confiscated his Storage Ring. With her eight Dou Wangs assembled, she was positioned to trap the remaining invaders. Xiao Yan intervened using Apothecary’s power, allowing Yun Yun’s group to leave with Gu He 90.

Xiao Yan then offered to guarantee Medusa’s evolution in exchange for the Heavenly Flame and her occasional service. Medusa accepted after weighing the risks of failure, Gu He’s potential retaliation, and the protection a powerful human-backed faction could offer her people. Their agreement preserved the Snake-People’s internal autonomy 90 91 92.

Evolution and Relocation Plans

Although Medusa had obtained the Green Lotus Core Flame for her evolution, Xiao Yan proposed using Bone Spirit Cold Flame instead. Its cold properties and Apothecary’s precise control offered a safer means of purging her cold, yin bloodline. Medusa endured nearly half an hour of burning before heavenly lightning destroyed her ravaged old body and completed her transformation 93 94.

After becoming a One-Star Dou Zong, Medusa requested medicine to stabilize her cultivation. Apothecary eventually refined the supplied herbs into fifth- and sixth-grade pills, which Xiao Yan delivered. Meanwhile, the Snake-People began preparing to leave the desert 95 96 100.

Xiao Yan proposed securing land from the Jia Ma Imperial Family and making the Misty Cloud Sect fund the migration as compensation for the incursion. Medusa accompanied her toward the sect, first removing Hai Bodong’s seal. At Misty Cloud Mountain, she publicly credited Xiao Yan with her successful evolution and declared that Xiao Yan’s standing among the Snake-People was no lower than her own 96 101 102.

Rather than simply driving Gu He away, she creates an opportunity to capture him, take his possessions, and potentially turn his alchemical talent to her tribe’s advantage. She does not hesitate to kill his companions or cripple his cultivation 89 90.

Her pride is tempered by responsibility. She is willing to risk her life through evolution and accept service under Xiao Yan if doing so offers her people a route out of the desert. She carefully considers whether the alliance will preserve their independence before agreeing 91.

After receiving tangible help from Xiao Yan, Medusa becomes more accommodating without losing her confidence. She enjoys teasing Xiao Yan over her nervousness and attraction, though she initially restrains herself because Xiao Yan is now her superior 95 96.
