Wrapped up tightly, she hid in the shadows, trembling like an addict as her gaze swept over the passersby.

She swallowed greedily, but her ethics and reason as a medical student were locked in a fierce struggle.

Become a monster like a vampire, or starve to death.

She huddled on the street, and her chance came.

A young man mistook her for a homeless person and placed a banknote in front of her.

"Wait!" Seeing the man about to leave, she let desire overcome reason and pleaded, "Sir, could you help me?"

The man stopped and gave her a friendly smile.

Martha thought, He must be a gentle person.

Could she really turn someone like him into her food?

Martha's greedy gaze settled on his neck.

"Take me home." She stared at him hopefully.

Just as she had hoped, he nodded.

He really was a gentle person.

She pretended to be injured.

As a medical student, she knew exactly how someone with an injured leg would move.

So she did not think she would give herself away.

His gentle care made Martha waver again.

The closer they came to her home, the harder hunger and reason fought within her.

"Do you have your keys?" His voice brought her back to her senses.

Looking at her front door, now right before her, she knew that once they went inside, he would be hers to slaughter.

Martha clenched the key in her pocket. The sunlight outside made her want to die.

"I think I forgot them," Martha said, forcing an ugly smile. "I'll just wait here."

She still did not want to betray everything she had learned.

"You don't look well."

At his concerned question, Martha endured her discomfort and said, "Low blood sugar. I'll be fine if I wait a little."
