By now, however dim the Other might have been, even he could tell something was wrong.
Loki was clearly in league with the people of Earth!
This had all been a ploy to trick his army into walking straight into a trap!
"Loki, you actually colluded with the people of Earth! I'm Cell!" The Other roared in fury.
Then the Chitauri Army poured out of the Portal like ink, blotting out the sky.
Unlike the earlier cannon fodder, every soldier in this final wave radiated a suffocating pressure.
Their heavy armor gleamed with a cold metallic sheen, and energy crystals embedded in every joint flickered with dangerous light.
Through some kind of device, the Other's voice rang out in every Chitauri soldier's mind:
"Loki! You traitor!"
"I'll make you pay!"
"All Chitauri warriors, kill Loki and those Avengers at any cost!"
Clearly, the Other had gone completely mad and was staking everything on one final gamble.
He understood that the invasion had utterly failed. There was no chance of turning things around.
His only hope of survival was to kill the traitor Loki and Earth's guardians, then claim credit before Thanos. Perhaps that would save his miserable life.
This final wave was fiercer than the others and far more powerful than the army that had come before. They were the Chitauri's last trump card, the elite of the elite.
Thanos had personally modified them with biotechnology and equipped them with the toughest armor materials. They were also the Other's greatest source of confidence.
