"Right. 'Simple-Folk Gotham City, Talent-Rich Arkham,' and all that."
Miaomiao had long since grown used to how others saw Gotham. There was even a hint of cheer in her voice.
"Gotham City's King of Crime is a guy called the Joker. He's completely insane. He isn't even afraid of dying, and he has no real motive for doing evil. He just wants to see people suffer and fall."
Daredevil couldn't understand someone like that. He had seen so much evil, but most of it had been for some kind of gain, whether money, status, or power. Ultimately, it all came down to greed and desire. He had never encountered that kind of aimless evil-evil committed purely for its own sake.
"You're not supposed to understand him." Miaomiao stood on tiptoe and patted Daredevil's shoulder like a little grown-up, saying earnestly, "Never try to understand how a madman thinks. Once you understand his thinking, you're not far from becoming one yourself."
"..." Only after a long pause did Daredevil chuckle. "You're right."
"So, when are you planning to go to bed tonight?" Miaomiao finally asked the all-important question. "My dad can catch up on sleep in the morning. He's the chairman, so it doesn't matter if he gets to work a little late. But tomorrow, you..."
Miaomiao checked the wristwatch hidden beneath her suit and corrected herself. "No, I should say today. Don't you have to be in court this morning? You have... four hours left to sleep."
Being urged to get some rest was a novel experience for Daredevil. With the girl's help, his patrol had gone much faster, and he really was nearly finished for the night.
"All right, then. I'll head home and get some rest. Do you remember the way back to the apartment?"
Daredevil meant the
