The exotic beasts in the Menagerie were worthy of the fortunes the Sealord had spent acquiring them. The snakes, insects, rodents, and other creatures in the River Valley alone had already filled the bellies of Hognara and the other two young dragons.
Once full, the three little ones flew straight onto Myracis's back and closed their eyes to rest. Myracis, long accustomed to playing nursemaid, seemed to take no end of pleasure in it.
Danyla also discovered that all the rare birds and exotic beasts in this world gave off magical fluctuations to some degree. The energy Great Dragons gained from devouring them far exceeded what ordinary cattle and sheep provided.
After the dragons had devoured every exotic beast in the River Valley, Danyla led Dreamfyre and the others toward the Beast Zone. Unlike those snakes, insects, and rodents, the beasts there were all enormous, plump, well-fed, rich in nutrients, and brimming with energy!
The Great Dragons' arrival threw the Beast Zone into utter chaos, sending the beasts fleeing wildly in every direction. Some animals that normally lived in terror of the thylacine now wished they could crawl into her pouch.
A giraffe was so frightened that it stretched out its long neck and plunged its head into a nearby pond, as though that would keep the Great Dragons from seeing it.
Myracis used her superior speed to chase down a scattering herd of rat-pigs. As purple-red dragonfire poured down, the plump rat-pigs were soon roasted amid a chorus of agonized squeals.
Myracis immediately rushed over and, in no time, devoured a rat-pig weighing several hundred pounds. When Hognara and the others caught the aroma, they clung to the succulent rat-pigs and began gnawing away, even though they were already full.
