Meanwhile, at their leader's call, the wyverns cut off by Hogdera and Hogras's dragonfire had begun fighting with utter desperation. Even with their wings ablaze, they charged in heedlessly.
Seeing this, Urrax hurriedly spewed dragonfire at them to keep them away. Yet even as his reddish-brown flames poured forth, more and more wyverns gathered around them.
Soon, Danyla and the six great dragons she commanded were surrounded by wyverns, with less and less room to maneuver.
Danyla quickly ordered the dragons to change formation. Myracis and Hognara charged at the male wyvern together, taking the lead.
With Hognara's icy breath countering it, the Male Giant Wyvern's venom could scarcely take effect, while Myracis's dragonfire inflicted tremendous damage on him.
Hogdera, Hogras, and Urrax followed behind to cover them. Bolstered by the hurricane Hogras whipped up, scorching dragonfire filled the air around the dragons, setting the wings of almost every frenzied wyvern closing in on them ablaze.
Yet they continued their suicidal charge. Even wyverns whose bodies had been scorched black by dragonfire kept lunging heedlessly at Danyla's dragons, biting and tearing.
Urrax and Hogdera soon sustained wounds. Hogras, however, moved so swiftly, aided by the hurricane stirred up by her wings, that the wyverns could not pin her down.
Seizing the moment when Myracis's purplish-black dragonfire made the Male Giant Wyvern stumble, Hognara lunged at him from the side and drove her powerful claws deep into his body.
The male wyvern roared in pain and rage, turning on Hognara and spewing more dark green venom.
