Wang Yu met Heavenly Cauldron Peak’s elders and disciples, who tried to recruit him by offering the Ten Thousand Mysteries Mother Cauldron Great Art. After Yan Tu and Zhongli went upstairs, Lei Jun and Tian Tier began helping Wang Yu choose a True Disciple to challenge in the finals.
Wang Yu chose Li Shixiong, a low-ranked True Disciple whose Wood-Attribute illusion art was vulnerable to Wang Yu’s Fire cultivation and strong divine sense. The competition then began with the appearance of Grandmaster Tianlang, Green Water Palace’s fourth-tier Nascent Soul True Lord.
True Lord Tianlang announced doubled Sect Grand Competition rewards and said Qi Refining disciples would later be sent to contest the demons in the River-Crossing Region. As the preliminary matches began, Lian Ruohua took Wang Yu to watch potential opponents.
Wang Yu and Lian Ruohua discussed the tournament finals and their chances of claiming true disciple positions, then watched Ling Feng face Xie Hong in an arena. Lian Ruohua had brought Wang Yu to study Xie Hong, a powerful Azure Wave Peak disciple expected to reach the finals.
Xie Hong defeated Ling Feng with a powerful Thunder Method that shattered his illusions and left him badly injured. After the match, Wang Yu and Lian Ruohua discussed Xie Hong’s Golden Box and the danger his Thunder Method posed.
Wang Yu and Lian Ruohua watched several preliminary matches and discussed the strengths of their competitors. The chapter left Wang Yu observing more standout fighters as the competition continued.
Wang Yu and Lian Ruohua prepared to challenge for True Disciple positions in the Grand Competition finals, receiving defensive talismans and pills from their elders. As they watched the other finalists gather, Lian Ruohua began introducing Wang Yu to their strongest rivals.
Sect Master Luo Tianqi announced the rules for the contest for True Disciple positions, and Wang Yu chose Li Shixiong, ranked sixty-seventh, as his target. The challenge order began with Wang Yu, leaving both him and Lian Ruohua stunned.
Wang Yu became the first challenger in the True Disciple competition finals and faced Li Shixiong of Origin Transformation Peak. After striking Li with a flying knife and crushing him with the Mount Mi Seal, Wang Yu sensed the fight was not over and unleashed a barrage of white fireballs.
Wang Yu and Li Shixiong fought in the True Disciple Challenge as Li Shixiong’s Green Vine Illusion Dew Art trapped Wang Yu in an illusion and bound him with thorned vines. Just as spectators thought Wang Yu had lost, he enlarged his body and strengthened his Silver Armor, beginning to force the vines apart.
Wang Yu saw through Li Shixiong’s illusion and forced him into a decisive clash. Li Shixiong revealed that he had reached the Foundation Establishment Late Stage, leaving the contest’s outcome uncertain.
Wang Yu unleashed his Second-Tier Limit Flame Blade against Li Shixiong, who revealed his foundation establishment late-stage cultivation and transformed into a Wood Flood Dragon. The two attacks collided as Li Shixiong defended himself with his magical artifacts.
Wang Yu and Li Shixiong exchanged devastating attacks in the challenge, and the Green Water Palace Sect Master intervened to save Li Shixiong. Wang Yu emerged unharmed, leaving the contest's result uncertain to the watching cultivators.
Wang Yu defeated Li Shixiong in the tournament and claimed Green Water Palace’s sixty-seventh True Disciple Position. Although he believed he could withstand most challengers, the tournament continued, and Junior Sister Xin’s uneasy premonition left Yan Tu worried that Wang Yu’s position might not be secure.
Wang Yu’s strength unsettled the other peaks as the second round of challenges began. A Long-Haired Youth agreed to challenge Wang Yu for Pure Fire Peak and was ordered to injure him severely without killing him.
Sun Chan challenged Senior Brother Qin, a hidden second-tier Puppet Master, but conceded after his talismans failed to break Qin’s defenses. The next match began with a Little Giant battering a barrier sustained by a young Daoist’s Bamboo Slips.
Wang Yu watched the True Disciple challenges and considered the unusual Secret Arts and Magical Artifacts on display. After a string of defeats and Xie Hong's successful challenge, Lian Ruohua took the stage to challenge the weakened Mu Zhen.
Lian Ruohua defeated Mu Zhen and secured the seventy-first True Disciple Position, joining Wang Yu as a successful challenger from Pure Fire Peak. As the competition reached its final challenge, Refining Mountain Peak replaced its directly admitted disciple, prompting Yan Tu to suspect a connection to the peak’s hostility toward Pure Fire Peak.
Chang Kun of Refining Mountain Peak challenged Wang Yu, revealing himself as Peak Master Chang’s son and unsettling the Green Water Palace Sect Master. After a private explanation, Peak Master Chang invoked Patriarch Tianlang’s approval, leaving the assembled spectators shocked by Chang Kun’s origins.
Wang Yu began his challenge against Chang Kun, whose connection to Patriarch Tianlang made the fight especially dangerous. Wang Yu and Little White unleashed a coordinated barrage that engulfed Chang Kun in a towering pillar of fire, but his silver-lit body had already shrugged off the opening attacks.
Chang Kun revealed his Snow Wolf King bloodline and emerged from the flames unharmed, forcing Wang Yu to confront the power of his icy transformation. Chang Kun began coating himself in ice armor as he announced that he intended to end the match in their next exchange.
Wang Yu and Chang Kun clashed in the arena after Chang Kun used Mystic Wolf Transformation to create a towering ice werewolf that amplified his spells. Wang Yu countered with White Flame and his magical artifacts, and the battle continued as he and Little White struck at the transformed wolf.
Wang Yu survived Senior Brother Chang’s Thousand Ice Shatter by using Instant Step, then prepared to face Chang’s bloodline secret art. Chang warned that the technique could kill Wang Yu, but Wang Yu refused to concede, and Chang tore apart his own heart to unleash it.
Chang Kun transformed into a blood-colored werewolf and began the second round against Wang Yu, who used his body-tempering arts and weapons to defeat Chang Kun’s three false wolf shadows. Chang Kun announced a third round, and Wang Yu answered by taking the same wolf-like stance, stunning Chang Kun and the spectators.
Wang Yu and Chang Kun fought in their transformed forms, with Wang Yu's Bear Embrace Form striking hard enough to pin Chang Kun's legs into the arena. Chang Kun announced the fourth round and swallowed the Wolf Puppet, causing a second wolf head to emerge from his neck.
