Background / History
Xun'er is Gu Yuan's daughter and the young heiress of the Gu Clan, an Ancient Race. Gu Yuan personally brings her to Wutan City, meeting only Xiao Zhan to keep the arrangement secret. Xiao Zhan presents her arrival as that of a child from an unfamiliar Xiao Clan branch and places her in the courtyard beside Chen Cang's 24 26.
According to Chen Cang's understanding, Gu Yuan describes the stay as an opportunity for her to enjoy a childhood while searching for the Tou She Ancient God Jade. He prepares cultivation methods and Dou Techniques for her future use, expecting a lengthy stay but an eventual return to the Gu Clan 28.
Xiao Zhan recognizes her father's extraordinary standing without knowing his Gu Clan identity. The clan's deferential treatment leaves Xun'er separated from its other children: they become unusually serious around her, while she feels uncomfortable trying to interact with them 31.
Appearance
- Childlike stature: At four years old, her feet dangle when she sits on a tall chair 27.
- Features: Described as exceptionally pretty, delicate, and adorable 27.
- Clothing: Wears a white dress during her first meeting with Chen Cang in the training square 27.
- Signs of overexertion: Becomes visibly pale after cultivating beyond her body's comfortable limits 33.
Personality
Xun'er is observant and capable of planning, although her attempts at solemn authority still reflect her age. Following Ling Ying's advice, she approaches Chen Cang with a real cultivation problem rather than an easily exposed lie. She also remembers her father's instruction to proceed gradually and consolidate each step 27 28.
Her politeness initially conceals considerable distance. She rarely leaves her courtyard when she has no close companion nearby, filling idle hours with reading. With Chen Cang, however, she becomes attentive, expressive, and genuinely pleased by his successes 31 32.
She is stubborn about cultivation. Despite repeated warnings, she pushes through discomfort to strengthen her meridians, arguing that her increasing tolerance proves the method works. She readily agrees to Chen Cang's cautions but then resumes the same behavior 33.
Her attachment to Chen Cang makes her wary of Xiao Yi Xian's arrival. The narration explicitly distinguishes this childhood possessiveness from an adult understanding of jealousy. Once reassured about her place in his affections, she approaches Xiao Yi Xian sincerely and becomes her close friend 34 49.
Abilities & Skills
Dou Qi Cultivation
- Exceptional talent: Chen Cang praises her progress to the Second Stage of Dou Qi 32.
- Painful absorption: Her fragile meridians cannot comfortably withstand her absorption of Dou Qi; Chen Cang identifies the hidden Heavenly Flame as the underlying cause 28.
- Increasing endurance: She reports being able to cultivate safely for longer periods after repeatedly testing her limits 33.
- Treatment: Chen Cang eventually uses his Dou Qi to nourish her meridians, leaving her feeling substantially better. The procedure requires precise control because a Da Dou Shi's mistake could cause devastating injury 33.
Golden Emperor Burning Heaven Flame
- The Heavenly Flame is concealed inside her and contributes to her cultivation difficulties 28.
- Its burden remains significant while she is below Dou Zhe; Chen Cang considers giving her an Earth Fire Lotus Seed to consume at that stage unsafe 48.
- No combat use or active flame technique is demonstrated in the provided chapters.
Reading and Cultivation Knowledge
- Reads to occupy the hours when her physical condition prevents further cultivation 31.
- Has browsed cultivation methods and Dou Techniques prepared by Gu Yuan, even though she cannot yet practice the methods 28 29.
- Her reading indirectly supplies Chen Cang with knowledge through his undisclosed memory-reading ability 29.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Heavenly Flame Art: A Low Earth Tier cultivation method prepared for her future use. Chen Cang secretly learns it from her memories and adopts it himself 28.
- Two Poles Flame Spirit Method: Another Low Earth Tier method she has read; Chen Cang finds it gentler than Heavenly Flame Art 28.
- Prepared Dou Techniques: Gu Yuan supplies techniques for later cultivation, though their individual names are not given 28.
- Earth Fire Lotus Seed: A gift from Chen Cang. He instructs her to keep it nearby to aid cultivation and consume it only after forming her Dou Qi Vortex 49.
- Frost Land Turtle magic-core bracelet: A simply woven bracelet decorated with an ice-blue core from a fourth-rank magical beast. She favors it over the lotus seed because the gift expresses Chen Cang's affection 49.
Relationships
- Gu Yuan — Father and Gu Clan leader. Arranges her concealed stay with the Xiao Clan and prepares her future cultivation resources 26 28.
- Ling Ying — Hidden protector and adviser. Investigates Chen Cang, coaches her approach to him, and watches anxiously during her first meridian treatment 27 32 33.
- Chen Cang — Neighbor, cultivation adviser, and close friend. She trusts him with her physical difficulties and values his stories and companionship; he secretly reads her memories throughout their interactions 28 29 31 33.
- Xiao Yi Xian — Initially regarded warily, then becomes her closest friend within the Xiao Clan. They share a gentle disposition and an interest in Chen Cang 49.
- Xiao Zhan — Host and Xiao Clan leader. Arranges her neighboring courtyard and asks Chen Cang to look after her, without understanding her true background 26 31.
- Xiao Yan — Fellow Xiao Clan resident who calls her “Cousin Xun'er.” Chen Cang's courtyard lies between their residences, disrupting the proximity he believes would otherwise have helped them become close 26 35.
