| Casting Cost | One strand of magical power per verse; 100 strands for a complete recitation 30 |
| First Appearance | Described in the Great Tomb booklet 25 |
Learning Requirements
- Scriptural foundation: Cultivators must master the Ten Thousand Scrolls Dao Canon to have a chance of deciphering the technique from the booklet 26 27.
- Exceptional rarity: A Yin Spirit who had spent over a decade in the Lower Court had never previously met a practitioner. He described the chance of comprehension as perhaps one in a thousand or one in ten thousand 26.
- First-Rank Dao Seal: Wang Quan initially suspects that his Dao Seal explains his comprehension. After meeting a cultivator who knew twenty thousand scripture scrolls but still could not understand the technique, he identifies the missing seal as the reason 26 38.
- Unsafe transmission: Other cultivators refuse Wang Quan’s offer to teach them. They believe that using a scripture they cannot independently decipher would invite disaster or violent death 26.
The First-Rank Dao Seal emerges only after mastering ten thousand volumes of Daoist scriptures before acquiring any magical power. Later mastery of the same number of scriptures does not provide its full spell-comprehension benefits 3 18.
Abilities & Skills
Permanent Cleansing
The scripture permanently eliminates evil beings rather than merely killing them and allowing them to return 25 26.
- Its hundred verses become lines of scripture that land on the selected target 30.
- Cuihua releases black smoke, grows progressively younger, becomes an infant, and then disappears. The same final transformation occurs with another elderly evil being and the Great Tomb General 30 37 38.
- Stronger beings require repeated complete recitations; one casting is not a universal kill 32 43.
- Cleansing can be welcomed as release from torment: the General begs Wang Quan to continue until he disappears 38.
Scripture Manifestations
The recited words can take forms that restrain and torment resistant targets 42 44.
- Chains: Drag a fleeing Cafeteria gatekeeper back onto its door, bind it, and later lash it 42.
- Hammers, chisels, and saws: Strike the gatekeeper’s mouth, gouge its seven orifices, and tear its facial skin during further recitation 42.
- Pillar binding: Chains gradually fasten the Malformed Great Dragon to its Cafeteria pillar despite its attempts to hide 44.
- Intimidation: Evil dishes become frightened by the recitation even when another dish is the actual target; some hide beneath tables 43.
Weakening Anomalous Sites
Each permanently cleansed Great Tomb inhabitant permanently reduces the tomb’s power, visibly expanding its main hall 27.
- Newly exposed space allows Yin Spirits to inscribe additional Daoist Scriptures, increasing suppression and making the foothold safer 30 37.
- Cleansing first-layer inhabitants weakens the tomb as a whole, assisting cultivators fighting on its tenth layer 32 37.
- The scripture helps force the Grand General into its previously unseen second form 33.
- Cleansing the General ultimately removes the Great Tomb and allows the Lower Court Dormitory Complex to be reflected into the Second-Layer World 38 39.
Yin Virtue and Spiritual Refinement
Permanent cleansing earns Yin Virtue and strengthens Wang Quan’s Yin Spirit. The technique is also described as accelerating the condensation of his primordial spirit 27 32 42.
| Occasion | Recorded Benefit |
|---|---|
| Initial Great Tomb test | Yin Virtue +2 27 |
| Clearing the first level with pill support | Yin merit +51; his Yin Spirit becomes more substantial and easier to control. Wang Quan judges the improvement greater than fifty-one days of gathering purple qi 33 |
| Delivering the General | 1,000 Yin Virtue and a wisp of favor from the Second-Layer World 40 |
| Early Cafeteria cleansing | Fifty points of Yin Virtue 44 |
| Subsequent cultivation routine | His Dao Seal records 15,000 accumulated Yin Virtue after a period that includes nightly Cafeteria cleansing 50 |
The General also gives Wang Quan the unorthodox art Three Heads and Six Arms before requesting his final deliverance 38 40.
Costs & Limitations
Magical Power Consumption
- A complete recitation contains 100 verses, each consuming one strand of magical power 30.
- At his initial reserves, Wang Quan can permanently cleanse only one ordinary evil being per day without replenishing medicine 27.
- Magic Power Pills allow him to cleanse multiple targets without returning to cultivate between uses 31 32.
- The First-Turn Outer Elixir restores his Dharma Power after each recitation, enabling hours of repeated casting 36 37.
- Time spent cleansing still reduces the time available for moonlight harvesting and Dharma Power cultivation 42.
Target Resistance
| Target | Documented Resistance |
|---|---|
| Ordinary first-layer Great Tomb inhabitant | Eliminated by one complete recitation 30 37 |
| Grand General | Initially estimated to withstand thirty to fifty recitations; this is a planning estimate, not a confirmed total 32 |
| Three-headed, hundred-armed being | The first complete recitation removes two arms; repeated casting reduces it to the Three-Headed, Six-Armed General before final cleansing 38 |
| Cafeteria gatekeepers | Survive multiple complete recitations before disappearing 42 43 |
| Cafeteria roast chicken | Requires five recitations to eliminate 43 |
| Cafeteria reliefs and ghost faces | Initially require five recitations, later six or seven; abusive examples take ten 49 |
- Protection remains necessary: Palace Maidens restrain attacking Great Tomb inhabitants while Wang Quan chants. A physical-body cultivator immobilizes the Cafeteria roast chicken before its cleansing 36 43.
- Unlimited replenishment does not guarantee safety: Cultivators refuse to take Wang Quan directly to the hundred-armed Grand General because they may be unable to protect him 36.
- Resistance can increase: After Wang Quan cleanses fifty first-layer inhabitants, the remaining beings grow stronger; after sixty, they merge into a gigantic entity 38.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Great Tomb
Wang Quan first encounters the scripture in a booklet but dismisses it because of its hundred-strand cost. After learning how rare comprehension is, he agrees to test it with the gathered Yin Spirits. The successful cleansing expands the hall and establishes him as a means of permanently weakening the tomb 25 26 27.
Physical-body cultivators subsequently offer replenishing pills and Green Fly Coins for his help. He accepts only the pills, valuing the spiritual benefits of cleansing. The cultivators later provide a First-Turn Outer Elixir to sustain the work 31 32 33 36.
His sustained recitation culminates in the General’s willing deliverance and the tomb’s disappearance. Cultivators credit him with ending a clearance effort pursued for at least a thousand years and potentially saving decades of further work 38 39.
Cafeteria
Following the tomb’s removal, cultivators recognize Wang Quan’s scripture as decisive and ask him to choose the next building to clear. He selects the Cafeteria, eliminates its gatekeepers, and begins cleansing its powerful Evil dishes 41 42 43.
When the interior proves too dangerous, he shifts to cleansing exterior pillars, doors, windows, and carvings while other cultivators weaken the building from within. Its resistance later increases, requiring more recitations but also yielding greater rewards. Cafeteria cleansing becomes part of his regular nightly routine 44 49 50.
