Background / History
The Mo Family began as one of several major powers in Salt City. Its fortunes improved through Mo Cheng, a former Misty Cloud Sect disciple who left to manage the family without severing his sect connections. Large annual tributes secured him an unofficial outer sect steward position, allowing him to act in the sect’s name under certain circumstances. This protection discouraged other great families from challenging the clan 113 114.
Mo Cheng’s reputation also strengthened the family’s position. Known as Executioner Mo, he single-handedly exterminated the Black Whirlwind Bandit Group, whose forces included three Great Dou Masters and numerous Dou Shi. Earlier imperial campaigns had failed to eliminate the bandits 113.

Territory and Holdings
Salt City
- Commercial dominance: Owned sixty percent of Salt City’s businesses. On one street, more than 150 of over 180 shops belonged to the family 114 115.
- Strategic location: Salt City’s salt and iron trade accounted for nearly seventy percent of the empire’s trade in those commodities 114.
- Unofficial control: The family’s influence was so extensive that informed locals called Salt City “Mo City” 114 115.
- Municipal influence: Officials throughout the City Lord’s Mansion accepted benefits from the family. City guards enforced its invitation-only entry restrictions during Mo Cheng’s birthday festivities 114.
- Celebration monopoly: Booked every inn in the city, reserving accommodation for its guests during the celebration period 114.
Estate and Longevity Garden
- Scale and defenses: The estate exceeded the City Lord’s Mansion in size. Its ten-meter-wide entrance had a gate tower, armed Dou Zhe servants, and Dou Shi retainers 115.
- Man-Made Mountain: The family relocated and reshaped a mountain into a residential complex at enormous expense 116.
- Ranked banquet grounds: Longevity Garden’s reception areas occupied the mountain’s foot, midpoint, and summit. Guests were seated according to standing and gifts 116.
- Hidden facilities: Secret passages ran within the estate. Numerous mingled Magical Beast auras inside the mountain prevented Xiao Yan from clearly locating Qing Lin with his spiritual senses 117 118.
Abilities & Skills
Secret Transplantation Arts
The family possessed secret arts capable of grafting Magical Beast body parts onto a human body. Mo Cheng also intended to use them to transplant Qing Lin’s Triple Jade-Green Snake Flower Pupils 117 118.
- Demonstrated modifications: Mo Cheng incorporated parts from at least five fourth-order Magical Beasts, including horns, scales, tiger markings, and three venomous snake tails 118.
- Treasured component: His replacement arm came from the family’s fifth-rank Blazing Flame Mountain-Breaking Rhinoceros 118.
- Humanity loss: His complete transformation left him almost entirely bestial and unable to speak 118.
- Political consequences: The practice violated accepted human morality in the Jia Ma Empire; Mo Cheng’s public transformation made continued Misty Cloud Sect support untenable 118.
- Combat limitation: Despite the modifications, Xiao Yan killed him with a single sweep of the Heavenly Flames Greatsword 118.
Relationships
- Misty Cloud Sect — Patron through Mo Cheng’s tribute payments and unofficial steward position. Nalan Yanran and Ge Ye attended his birthday celebration, presenting fourth-grade Qi Gathering Powder and lending the family considerable prestige 113 116.
- Salt City’s City Lord — A staunch ally who accepted benefits from the family and supported Mo Cheng’s alliance proposal 117.
- Mo Alliance — Joint organization announced by Mo Cheng to consolidate surrounding factions. Members were promised resources and military support; Mo Cheng accepted its leadership 117.
- Storm Mercenary Group — Its attackers operated with Mo Family backing during the assault on the Desert Iron Mercenary Group 112 113.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Qing Lin’s Capture
Mo Cheng captured Qing Lin after discovering her Triple Jade-Green Snake Flower Pupils. He believed transplanting them could enable him to reach Dou Emperor, free the family from dependence on the Misty Cloud Sect, and expand beyond Salt City 117.
The family-backed assault on the Desert Iron Mercenary Group drew Xiao Yan into the conflict. After rescuing his brothers and learning who was responsible, he destroyed the Storm Mercenary Group’s headquarters and traveled to Salt City to recover Qing Lin 112 113 114.
Birthday Banquet Confrontation
Mo Ling Lin unknowingly facilitated Xiao Yan’s entry by giving him an invitation and leading him to the summit. Registered as Yan Xiao, he confronted Mo Cheng immediately after the announcement of the Mo Alliance. His twelve Flame Beasts killed the surrounding Dou Shi, and he overwhelmed the Grand Elder 115 116 117.
Mo Lan offered to release Qing Lin, but Mo Cheng refused and transformed using the family’s transplantation arts. Xiao Yan killed him and cut through the mountain’s summit with the same strike. He then gave Mo Lan ten minutes to produce Qing Lin; Mo Lan complied and offered compensation 118.
Heavenly Snake Mansion Intervention
Lu Man had secretly infiltrated the estate to investigate its transplantation arts. With the family unaware of her presence, she attempted to leave with the unconscious Qing Lin during the confrontation 118 119.
Xiao Yan’s pursuit brought the Eight-Winged Black Snake Emperor into battle above the estate. Heavenly-flame attacks destroyed some buildings, while the serpent’s tail gouged a fissure several meters wide and a hundred meters long into the Man-Made Mountain. Lu Man escaped with Qing Lin while the serpent occupied Xiao Yan 120.
