When Taishu Jing used his Divine Eye to glimpse her true face, aside from finding her somewhat beautiful, he also felt that she resembled someone he had seen before.
"So alike."
Jing Yu walked up to Taishu Jing, reached out a hand, gently caressed his cheek, and murmured softly.
"You..."
Taishu Jing frowned slightly in discomfort. Other than his mother, no one had ever dared make such an intimate gesture toward him. Though he felt uncomfortable, he did not avoid her, because her gaze was very gentle.
"Alright, if you have something to say, just say it," Taishu Jing said, turning his head aside to avoid her palm.
"Is your mother called Jingyun?"
Jing Yu asked, her tone carrying certainty.
Taishu Yun and Taishu Jing exchanged a glance, their gazes turning sharp. "Who are you?"
Feeling the pressure rolling off the two brothers, Jing Yu's eyes revealed a trace of shock. She had actually sensed danger from them. Though she had witnessed them ascend all forty-nine steps in the great hall and knew their talent was extraordinary, she had still underestimated them.
"By seniority, you might have to call me Little Aunt. My name is Jing Yu," Jing Yu said with a smile as she removed her veil.
Seeing Jing Yu's true face, Taishu Yun was somewhat surprised. Her features truly resembled their mother's. The difference lay in their bearing. Their mother's temperament was more easygoing and ever-changing—sometimes gentle as water, sometimes spirited and mischievous—while Jing Yu's was more dignified and noble.
"Little Aunt? Sorry, but my mother never mentioned having a younger sister. You want me to acknowledge you as my little aunt? Heh heh." Taishu Jing crossed his arms and raised a brow.
"Young Master, Miss did not deceive you. She truly is your little aunt. The eldest young lady has been gone for so many years. I never expected that this time, we would meet her children," Uncle Lin said with emotion.
"What makes you so sure?" Taishu Jing cast them a sideways glance.
"That's right, why are you so certain?" Taishu Yun asked as well.
Seeing that the two brothers had actually believed half of it already, yet still pretended to be distrustful, Jing Yu chuckled. She said to Taishu Jing, "Because you look too much like your mother."
"Me? Do I really look like Mother?" Taishu Jing pointed at himself and looked toward Taishu Yun questioningly.
"Uh, you really do," Taishu Yun nodded. He also felt that his little brother looked very much like their mother—at least eighty percent alike. Only the remaining twenty percent resembled their father.
"When I first saw your elder brother, I only found him somewhat familiar and did not think much of it. It was only after I saw you—your face, which looks so much like my sister's—that I became certain. You and your brother must be my sister's children."
Jing Yu smiled at them.
"Do I still look like her this way?"
Taishu Jing covered his face with his hands, then squeezed it into a strange shape.
"Hehe, you look even more like her this way. My sister used to love doing this too. You truly are her children—even this is exactly the same."
Jing Yu laughed even more happily, her eyes narrowing into slits.
"Brother, are we really going to have to call her Little Aunt or something?" Taishu Jing leaned close to Taishu Yun's ear and whispered.
"You're asking me? Who am I supposed to ask?"
Taishu Yun rolled his eyes at him. A little aunt had suddenly popped up—and a genuine one at that. He had no idea what to do either.
"Ahem, I just remembered that we still have things to do, so we'll be taking our leave first," Taishu Jing said, coughing into his hand as he turned to leave.
Smack!
Jing Yu grabbed Taishu Jing's hand, smiling. "My sister used this trick too."
"What are you doing? Don't you know that men and women should not touch so freely? Let go, or I'll have Little White bite you. It hurts a lot, so don't blame me if you cry," Taishu Jing shouted.
"Talking about men and women not touching freely? You little brat, you really know quite a lot. Hurry up, call me Little Aunt." Jing Yu smiled at the two brothers.
"Little White, go bite her," Taishu Jing told Little White, but Little White showed absolutely no intention of responding.
"Eh, is this Little White around your neck? A True Dragon!"
Jing Yu was shocked again. She had already been stunned when she recognized Little Fire as a Divine Phoenix. She never expected there to be a True Dragon as well, coiled around Taishu Jing's neck. If one did not come close, one really would not notice it.
"You got scared, didn't you? Hurry up and let go," Taishu Jing said, glancing at her.
"Hehe, trying to scare me? If you don't call me Little Aunt today, I won't let go." Jing Yu smiled at him.
Trying to take advantage of me? No chance. Taishu Jing rolled his eyes at her. "Keep dreaming. Let go."
"I won't."
After thinking for a moment, Taishu Jing gave a strange smile. Then he used spiritual power to draw over a green caterpillar and placed it in her hand. "Look what this is."
"Ah!"
The instant Jing Yu saw the green caterpillar in her hand, she cried out in fright. She hurriedly released Taishu Jing's hand and flung the caterpillar away.
"Hahaha! Aren't you a cultivator? You're actually this afraid of such a tiny bug? You're worse than a child."
Taishu Jing could not help bursting into laughter, laughing until tears nearly came out. Taishu Yun and Uncle Lin beside him also found it difficult to keep from laughing.
"You..." Jing Yu glared at Taishu Jing in embarrassment and anger.
"Sorry, Jing is just a little unreliable. He's actually a very good person," Taishu Yun stepped forward to mediate.
"Let's see if you still dare make me call you Little Aunt." Taishu Jing looked at her smugly and even pulled a mocking face.
"Hmph." Jing Yu snorted.
"That personal guard unit over there seems to be waiting for you. Is this alright?" Taishu Yun looked toward the personal guard unit, whose gazes had remained fixed on this side.
After turning back to glance at the guards, Jing Yu nodded to Uncle Lin. Uncle Lin understood, walked over, and exchanged a few words with the captain of the personal guards. Then the unit formed up and departed with the carriage, tiger roars ringing out in waves.
"Miss, it's done," Uncle Lin said as he returned.
Jing Yu nodded and was about to speak when she caught sight of several people approaching. She promptly put her veil back on, concealing her face.
"Young Master Jing, long time no see."
Zhong Yu and the others came over and greeted Taishu Jing.
"Long time no see. Your physique has grown much stronger. It's about time for you to break through, isn't it?" Taishu Jing glanced at her. From the power of blood and qi within her body, it was clear that she had reached her limit.
"Young Master Jing's insight is as sharp as ever. I'll break through once I return this time," Zhong Yu replied with a smile.
"Mm, that's good."
"Then I won't disturb you any longer. Young Master Jing, remember to visit the City Lord's Mansion when you have the time. We will sweep the couch and await your arrival." Zhong Yu cupped her fists. Her gaze paused on Jing Yu for a moment before she turned and left.
"Young Master Jing, see you again," Zhong Li and the other two also saluted Taishu Jing before following Zhong Yu away.
"Jing, who were they?"
Taishu Yun watched Zhong Yu and the others leave. If he had not heard incorrectly, that girl had just invited Taishu Jing to visit the City Lord's Mansion. That meant these people were all from the City Lord's Mansion.
"They're the ones we met in the Cloud Dream Mountain Range before. They're from the City Lord's Mansion," Taishu Jing explained briefly.
"You should tell me your names now, shouldn't you, my little nephews?"
Only then did Jing Yu remember that after talking for so long, she still did not know their names.
"This is not a place for conversation. Let's go somewhere else," Taishu Yun said, glancing around. There were still many cultivators nearby.
They arrived at a mountaintop in the distance. It was already noon. Little Fire had gone to catch food, while Taishu Yun and the others started a fire and prepared to roast Fierce Beast Meat.
After sitting down, the two brothers spoke with Jing Yu and Uncle Lin for a long time, learning more about one another.
It turned out that Taishu Yun and Taishu Jing's mother had the compound surname Murong. Her true name was Murong Jingyun. She was a royal princess of Yun Country, as well as the first daughter of the Sovereign of Yun Country. Murong Jingyu was his second daughter, the Second Princess.
At Murong Jingyun's coming-of-age ceremony when she was eighteen, the Sovereign of Yun Country betrothed her to Yun Country's great general at the time. But Murong Jingyun was unwilling to marry someone she did not love, so several days later, she left Yun Country alone, with no one knowing where she had gone. That departure had lasted until now.
Murong Jingyu had come here by chance as well. She had happened to be traveling outside and arrived at the prefectural capital of Cloud Dream Prefecture. Upon hearing that an Ancient Ruin had emerged in the Great Marsh of Cloud Dream, she had brought Uncle Lin here.
What delighted Murong Jingyu was that the master of this Ancient Ruin had actually been a mighty expert, and she had obtained that mighty expert's Heart of Law.
"The Heart of Law—that was the sphere of light, wasn't it? It truly carried an immensely powerful aura of the Great Dao, far surpassing Dao Law Runes."
When Taishu Jing first saw that sphere of light, he had already sensed the aura of laws within it. It was like an exalted evolution of Dao Law Runes, its aura of the Great Dao even denser. After sensing that aura of laws, he had gained a clearer goal for his future path of the Great Dao.
