Personality
Du Siwen is outspoken, playful, and exceptionally eager to fight. She mixes teasing charm with sudden violence: after coaxing Wang Muyuan closer with a flirtatious remark, she beats him through his protective barrier. Her appetite for combat earns her the “Little Witch” reputation, although her apparently reckless attacks often rely on concealed armor rather than disregard for survival 60 103.
Her fierce manner conceals considerable generosity. Xu Qingtong describes her as having “a knife for a tongue but a heart of tofu,” explaining that she entered the sword tournament to help him reach the top five. She repeatedly puts his safety and opportunities ahead of her own, including hesitating to use Geng Metal Qi because she worries about leaving less for him 103 410.
She is competitive enough to turn disappointment into sustained training. After seeing the gap between her Tianhua Tower result and Xu Qingtong’s, she spends her time attending lectures, sparring, and challenging the tower. She can nevertheless recognize her mistakes, admitting that her pursuit of credit led an expedition team into an ambush 146 270 276.
Her attachment to Xu Qingtong is deep, but she can act against her own possessiveness. Despite her former hostility toward Dongfang Hui, she eventually helps arrange their union out of sympathy for Dongfang Hui’s suffering and a desire to ease Xu Qingtong’s burden 679 680.
History
Swallowtail Peak and the Sword Tournament
As Xu Qingtong’s Third Senior Sister at Swallowtail Peak, Du Siwen supports him both materially and physically. She exchanges thirty-three of his mid-grade Essence-Nourishing Pills for low-grade pills from her own supplies so he can submit his assignment. When Wang Muyuan’s group subsequently confronts him, she intervenes and beats the aggressors 59 60.
She enters the sword tournament specifically to improve Xu Qingtong’s chances of placing in the top five. After forcing her first opponent to concede, she confronts Senior Brother Hong, who has apparently been recruited to obstruct Xu Qingtong. She defeats Hong by knocking away his Moon-Slaying Ring, destroying his shield, and placing her damaged halberd against his neck. Xu Qingtong later crafts the Water-Fire Heaven-Shaking Halberd for her 103 104 107.
Expeditions with Xu Qingtong
Du Siwen accompanies Xu Qingtong on patrols and missions against sinister cultivators. During one encounter, she immobilizes a ninth-level Qi Refining opponent with a Soul-Piercing Nail and kills him with her halberd. Although initially uncomfortable with the sinister Soul Refining Pot, she accepts it after Xu Qingtong argues that a treasure’s morality depends on its user 121 122.
Her enthusiasm also leads to setbacks. During the operation against evil cultivators, her rash pursuit of credit brings her group into an ambush. After Xu Qingtong rescues them, she helps lure Wang Kunhai out of hiding, only to discover that his Black Skull can clamp onto and weaken her weapon 139 146.
When the Black Phoenix Flood Dragon’s venom overwhelms Xu Qingtong, he warns her to flee, but she returns and remains to save him. Afterward, she promises to stay beside him for life and protect him even at the cost of her own life 174 175.
Loss of Her Body and Revival
During an expedition, a demon beast destroys Du Siwen’s Copper Gong and hurls her into a Spatial Rift. The rift severs her body into three pieces, with its middle section and her Storage Bag lost. Her primordial spirit survives in the Soul Refining Pot, and Xu Qingtong promises to create a new incarnation for her 207 208 257.
After obtaining a tiger-patterned white jade lotus, Xu Qingtong refines a replacement body in her likeness. He then circulates his blood through their connected wrists while she guides her divine soul throughout the incarnation. Her heartbeat and breathing return, allowing her to resume life and cultivation 256 257.
For a time, Du Siwen presents herself as Dongfang Hui. Once Xu Qingtong explains their circumstances to the senior cultivators, she is allowed to reclaim her own name publicly. She subsequently seeks permission to enter the Rank-Challenging Competition under her true identity 272 274 276.
Golden Core Travels and Marriage
While Xu Qingtong is away, Du Siwen forms her Golden Core and trains under Lü Wenqiu. On his return six years later, she welcomes him with a spar. Although proud of her progress, she abandons the match when he reveals that all five of his Divine Seals have become treasures 377 378.
After Dongfang Hui seriously wounds Xu Qingtong, Du Siwen carries him to Lakeside Island and nurses him within its protective formation. Their later travels bring further gains: she strengthens her halberd with Geng Metal Qi and refines the Nine Nether Earthfire with his assistance 397 398 409 410 415.
Lü Wenqiu publicly announces both her acceptance as his named disciple and her union with Xu Qingtong. During the wedding events, Du Siwen defeats Dongfang Hui after the latter uses Severing Love, but spares her. Xu Qingtong blocks Dongfang Hui’s subsequent attack from behind, and the wedding proceeds with Du Siwen wearing replacement ceremonial robes 434 438 439 440.
Witch Clan Cultivation and Nascent Soul Formation
Xu Qingtong introduces Du Siwen to Witch Clan chief Si Yuanzhi as his wife. By the time she begins studying the Taiyi Heart Method, she has also become a clan member. Her aptitude allows her to progress rapidly in shamanic cultivation with the aid of Nine Yin Pills and ghost cultivators’ cores 450 458 466 473.
Her growing strength does not eliminate the danger of stronger opponents. A Nascent Soul-level Corpse Fiend withstands her halberd and fire attacks; although her Raging Thunder Finger injures its Divine Soul, its sound-wave attack knocks her unconscious. Xu Qingtong shelters her in the Seven-Star Bracelet 501.
She later forms her Nascent Soul after surviving nine thunder tribulations. Both Lü Wenqiu’s defensive shield and Xu Qingtong’s Mysterious Light Mirror are destroyed in the process. At the ensuing Dao discussion gathering, she withstands more than thirty exchanges against mid-stage Nascent Soul cultivator Wu Shaohan before his Yin Wind Roar injures and defeats her 538 546.
Family, Reconciliation, and Spirit Transformation
Du Siwen and Xu Qingtong have a son, Xu Chengkang. Before leaving for the Haoyu Mountain Range, Xu Qingtong prepares supplies and instructs her to take Chengkang and Duoduo back to Bingzhou if the approaching calamity strikes 550 572 665.
Her relationship with Dongfang Hui gradually changes from distrust to sympathy. After Dongfang Hui saves Xu Qingtong during his tribulation and loses her memories, Du Siwen helps care for her. She eventually explains Dongfang Hui’s past and arranges for her to become Xu Qingtong’s Dao companion without relinquishing her own marriage 660 665 672 679 680.
Following three years of travel with Xiao Qi, Du Siwen returns and senses her Spirit Transformation tribulation approaching. Xu Qingtong helps her prepare, including giving her Jade Exquisite. After her successful breakthrough, the Tianhua Sect holds a celebration. Before his own ascension, he leaves her supplies and Guidance Tokens and entrusts her and the sect to Shen Haotian and Luo Yichen 716.
Abilities & Skills
Halberd Combat
Du Siwen specializes in forceful, sweeping halberd techniques 103 107.
- Combines thrusts, cuts, chops, and smashing strikes, alternating hard attacks with softer movements and feints 107.
- Uses armor to sustain pressure rather than interrupt an attack to evade 103 438.
- Struggles when narrow terrain prevents broad swings, or when exceptionally agile opponents bypass her weapon’s reach 283 414.
Water–Fire Techniques
Her dual spiritual roots support combined water- and fire-attribute attacks.
- Ice and Fire Twofold Heaven: A powerful red-and-blue sphere spell prepared specifically for her by Lü Wenqiu 377.
- Elemental comprehension: Studies the inherent natures of water and fire, later gaining further insight from Zhong Ziqing’s explanation of elemental restraint and counteraction 435 493 495.
- Heat tolerance: Her spiritual roots help her withstand scorching environments, but prolonged exposure to extreme heat still strains her 413.
Nine Nether Earthfire
Du Siwen refines this spirit fire into her dantian after erasing its consciousness, with Xu Qingtong restraining it during the process 415.
- Uses it alongside her halberd to defeat Dongfang Hui despite the latter’s Severing Love enhancement 439.
- Deploys it against a Nascent Soul-level Corpse Fiend 501.
Geng Metal Qi Refinement
Du Siwen learns to incorporate Geng Metal Qi into her weapon using an artifact-refining method supplied by Xu Qingtong 409.
- Corrects her initial inefficiency by circulating the qi along the halberd’s magic-power route rather than her own cultivation route 409.
- Raises the halberd to a middle-grade treasure 410.
- Uses its enhanced sharpness to kill six fifth-tier demon beasts and wound the Darknight Flying Tuo’s unusually tough tongue 411 419.
Lightning and Shamanic Arts
- Raging Thunder Finger: Injures the Divine Soul of a Nascent Soul-level Corpse Fiend; lightning techniques naturally counter sinister creatures 501.
- Taiyi Heart Method: Accumulates star power and refines yin-derived energy for Witch Clan cultivation 458 473.
- Lightning-attracting Technique: Requires coordinated incantations, mudras, and activation of Great Yin power 531.
- By her reunion with Xu Qingtong at Cloudsky Peak, her shamanic attacks exceed an all-out strike from a mid-stage Golden Core cultivator 531.
Cultivation and Law Study
- One Qi Primordial Unity Art: Converts her existing magic power rather than rebuilding her cultivation from the beginning; her Nascent Soul changes from red-and-black to gray chaos 681.
- Cosmic Heart Stone study: Memorizes three runes after more than a month, but is not shown successfully wielding the Time Law 401.
