Background / History

Childhood in the Xiao Clan

Gu Xun'er is Gu Yuan's sole legitimate daughter and was born with a god-grade bloodline. Before leaving for the Xiao Clan, she received the Seven-Colored Clan Mark and was regarded as the Gu Clan's hope for revival 18 327.

She grew up in the Xiao Clan and became deeply attached to Xiao Yan. She offered him precious cultivation resources, taught him about Heavenly Flames, and deliberately neglected her own cultivation for his sake. Her attachment also led her to prevent Ling Ying from taking the Xiao Clan's Ancient Jade 18 29 48.

Captivity and Change of Cultivation Method

Hun Changqing confined her in a secret chamber and used threats against Xiao Yan, including visions of his death, to force her cooperation. Her captivity involved coercion and abuse; afterward, she associated Xiao Yan's smile and the supreme yin aura on him with what she had endured 32 33 35 38 52.

Her damaged bloodline and Hun Changqing's overwhelming strength drove her to reconsider years of neglected cultivation. Determined to surpass him, she abolished the Profound Origin Ancient Emperor Art, adopted the Flame Mantra, and refined the Golden Emperor Burning Heaven Flame 39 46 47.

She subsequently delivered the Xiao Clan's Ancient Jade to Gu Yuan and sought his backing for a continent-wide search for Heavenly Flames. She openly advocated acquiring them through trade or plunder, believing the Flame Mantra could carry her beyond Xiao Xuan and into Dou Di 48 49 50.

Ancient Flame Old Demon

After two years of violent encounters in the Black-Corner Region, Gu Xun'er became known as the Ancient Flame Old Demon. Gu Ming repeatedly recovered her after near-fatal battles and came to regard himself as her subordinate 116 120 131.

At Jia Nan Academy, she found Xiao Yan near the Fallen Heart Flame and killed him. An unexplained influx into her soul immediately followed his death, granting her Heaven Realm soul power. She also obtained the first Heavenly Fire transformation from his Storage Ring 116 117 118 131.

Her confrontations with Hun Changqing included a destructive clash of their strongest techniques and a subsequent attempt to kill Medusa. After he defeated her again, she withdrew with Gu Ming and vowed to catch up 133 134 147.

Flame Acquisition and Nirvana Rebirth

Gu Xun'er spent over a year refining the four flames acquired at Jia Nan Academy. She later sought the Sea Heart Flame from Hun Changqing, offering Gu Clan resources; he falsely claimed to have traded it away. She renewed the demand at the Pill Tower with Gu Clan elders nearby 201 211 290.

Gu Bing transferred his Pill Gathering championship opportunity to her, allowing her to attempt the Three Thousand Flame Lightning Fire. Three Gu Clan Dou Sheng elders sealed and monitored the Star Domain, preventing Old Man Mu Gu from escaping after his interference 306.

During refinement, her aura vanished and the watching elders feared she had died. Instead, she was reborn with the Supreme Yang True Body. Her Flame Mantra revealed itself as part of the Supreme Yang True Explanation, completed through its interaction with Hun Changqing's residual supreme yin energy 314 315.

Securing the Young Patriarch Position

The loss of her ancestral bloodline gave traditionally minded elders grounds to challenge her position and support Gu Jing. Gu Yuan nevertheless accepted her decision to pursue a power beyond bloodline inheritance 327 328.

Gu Xun'er defeated Gu Jing at the coming-of-age ceremony and secured her authority. Gu Yuan suppressed the opposing elders, while the clan opened its resources to her and permitted her to command elders below Five-Star Dou Sheng without justification 331 332 333 335.

She subsequently seized the Red Lotus Karmic Fire from Huo Zhi. Huo Xuan sent Huo Zhi away and detonated his bloodline against Gu Xun'er; she survived, though wounded. Her later Heavenly Tomb cultivation raised her from Two-Star to Eight-Star Dou Zun 337 354.

Capturing Hun Changqing and the Ancient-Clan War

When Xiao Yan reappeared, Gu Xun'er suspected Hun Changqing had revived him as part of a scheme. She played along but remained alert enough to evade an attack made through Xiao Yan under Hun Changqing's control 386 387 390.

After the Bodhi Ancient Tree events, she disclosed her past with Hun Changqing to Gu Yuan. Her father restrained him and left him in her custody; she then retaliated against him and forcibly initiated their exclusive yin–yang cultivation art 400 401 402 403.

Upon emerging as a Dou Sheng, she discovered that the Soul Clan had attacked and Hun Changqing had escaped. She proposed seizing the Yan and Lei Clans' Ancient Jade during the Yao Ceremony. Gu Yuan approved the plan, assigning the Three Immortals to the Yan Clan and taking command of the Lei Clan assault himself 413.

She participated in the Yan Clan's extermination and later fought Hun Miesheng in the Demonic Flame Space. After returning from that space, her golden sun became a feared presence on the Soul–Gu battlefield 429 443 463.

Tianxuan Continent

Gu Xun'er and Hun Changqing eventually reached the Tianxuan Continent, where he protected her upon their arrival. She recovered at the Nine Heavens Supreme Purity Palace and guarded the sect. Their later cooperation included her capturing the fleeing Fourth Hall King for him 538.

There, she also confronted the Flame Master and subjected Tang Xinlian to harsh training and punishment, including a trial against a peak Dou Zong Fire Python 540 558.

Dou Di and Clan Leadership

During the struggle in Ancient Emperor Tuoshe's cave mansion, Hun Changqing repeatedly wounded Gu Xun'er and prepared to suppress her. The Ancient Emperor Stone Statue responded to her supreme yang true fire origin, interrupting his attack and drawing the origin into its heart 592.

Her body initially struggled to withstand the inheritance, but the nirvana properties of her true fire restored it. She subsequently attained Dou Di, adopted the title Ancient Burning Empress, and summoned the continent's Heavenly Flames through the Heavenly Flame Plaza 594 599 602.

Hun Changqing revealed his own Dou Di strength and persuaded her to withdraw rather than continue devastating the Central Plains. Gu Yuan then relinquished the Clan Chief position to her. She directed the surviving elders to prioritize reconstruction and descendants, and reunited with her daughter Hun Gu'er 603.

Originally, Gu Xun'er was affectionate toward Xiao Yan, familiar companions, and her father, but cold and aloof toward most others. Her privileged status reinforced that distance: she considered many people unworthy of even superficial friendliness 18 48 120.

Following her captivity, her priorities shifted toward strength and Hun Changqing. She became ruthless, bloodthirsty, and willing to attack former loved ones, rival women, and her own clansmen. Her pursuit of power included accepting mass violence as a means of acquiring Heavenly Flames 46 50 116 147 323.

Her later composure is deliberate rather than a disappearance of those impulses. She learns to conceal her emotions almost perfectly, while her private cultivation space reflects the destructive thoughts beneath her calm exterior 269 283.

She rejects inherited bloodline as an ultimate measure of worth, calling it a cage once she finds a stronger path.
