Background / History

Yun Shuiqing accompanied the previous Heavenly Net Church leader during his fatal encounter with the Netherworld Beast. She was then at the early Heavenly Balance Realm. According to her account, his illness flared up during the fight, causing him to lose recognition of those around him. When she tried to evacuate him, he wounded her instead; she retreated alone, and he died in the beast’s lair 14.

After finding his daughter, Xiaoyao, Yun Shuiqing sealed her in ice with a forbidden art, lifting the seal only in the few years before meeting Fang Ling. She concealed the girl’s identity to prevent the church’s rival leaders from fighting over the succession. Her plan was to recover the Heavenly Net Divine Art once they could defeat its guardian, then give it to Xiaoyao and reunite the church under her leadership 12 14.

Despite Man Tianning supporting her succession, she declines the leadership and argues that Xiaoyao offers a better chance of ending the church’s divisions 12 13 14.

She is pragmatic in judging strength and adapting her plans. After Fang Ling subdues the Netherworld Beast and obtains the church’s inheritance, she is the first to acknowledge him as leader. She remains cautious enough to question the dangers of entering Blood Marsh and recommend waiting for reinforcements during the Six Harmonies Sect war, but accepts Fang Ling’s decisions once he makes them 15 16 31.

Heavenbreak Mountain and the Succession Dispute

Yun Shuiqing and Xiaoyao meet Fang Ling while seeking shelter beside his campfire. When Man Tianning later attempts to kill him, she intervenes because she considers him useful as Xiaoyao’s protector. She then presents Xiaoyao as the rightful successor, with the Wood Guard confirming the girl’s bloodline 12 13 14.

Her plan changes when Fang Ling emerges from the Netherworld Beast’s lair riding the subdued beast. Recognizing that he has obtained the Heavenly Net Divine Art—and that its possessor becomes leader under church rules—she kneels before him ahead of the other experts 15.

Six Harmonies Sect War

While recalling the church’s scattered members, Yun Shuiqing becomes caught in the conflict surrounding Flying Eagle Gate. She nearly dies breaking through the Six Harmonies Sect’s encirclement, then reaches the White Estate in Dragon City to report the crisis to Fang Ling. She waits rather than interrupting his secluded cultivation 30.

She accompanies Fang Ling and Dou Qin back toward Flying Eagle Gate, reporting the enemy’s strength along the way. Dou Qin completely heals her injuries during the journey. Once Fang Ling traps the enemy army inside Sarami Heaven, Yun Shuiqing returns to the defensive formation and organizes medical aid while the others prepare to support him 31 33.

After Fang Ling’s victory, she introduces Ghost Envoy Mo Tong and Eagle Venerable Feng Feiyan to him. She then joins the church leaders in carrying out his order to eradicate the Six Harmonies Sect’s remaining strongholds 34.

Imperial City and the Blood Marsh Departure

Yun Shuiqing accompanies Fang Ling to the Imperial City and warns him that Emperor Shao’s strength is far greater than commonly believed. Rather than entering the palace, she visits Dou Qin and later drinks with her at the Auspicious Abode 36 37 39.

After Fang Ling retrieves her, they return to Black Mountain. She remains behind with the Tiger and Python Venerables and the Water and Fire Guards to defend the Southern Sun Kingdom, rather than accompanying the eight hundred elites into Blood Marsh 39.
