The instant she had been pulled out, she had felt the connection between herself and her true self forcibly severed, like a gale snapping a kite string. By the time she was brought up here, she had already become rootless duckweed.
Under normal circumstances, even if her Vessel were destroyed, her consciousness would merely be banished back to the ninth layer of the Spirit Realm.
But this time was completely different!
She had been imprisoned!
It was as though someone had taken a knife and gouged a great chunk of flesh straight out of her true self's consciousness and soul, forcibly dividing them into two independent parts.
"So that's how it works."
Lin En rubbed his nonexistent chin.
Apparently, the Lord of Crimson had not merely projected her power. She had actually descended into the Black Sword with part of her consciousness, and what he had just done amounted to slicing a hefty chunk straight off it.
Lin En said with a beaming smile:
"But since you're an avatar, I imagine you know your true self's plans, don't you?"
The Crimson Shadow struggled desperately.
"Why?"
"Why would a being like you interfere with my affairs?! There's no grudge between us! Why must you target me?!"
Lin En looked at her innocently, as though listening to a particularly funny joke.
"Target you? Haven't you misunderstood something?"
"You're the ones who keep screwing with me. I finally got myself a cute little wife for free, and before I've even had my turn, you're bending over backward to steal her from me. You even want to use her as a cup... Do I look like someone who'd let you cuckold him?"
"You try to steal what's mine, and somehow I'm the one to blame?"
It was utterly ridiculous.
