Background / History

Ten Years in the Warp

Originally a human from Earth who identifies himself as Chinese, Lin En transmigrated into the Warp ten years before the opening chapter. Instead of a human body, he received a tadpole-like form and lived within a mass of black mist. He fashioned a room from the mist and scavenged possessions from the Warp’s turbulent currents 1 4.

His first attempt to greet the woman inside a nearby sun ended with her cutting him apart. He repeatedly returned to life, but subsequent attempts at communication met the same response. After hundreds of deaths, he declared war on her and spent years studying her movements, attacks, and dependence on the sun 1.

Food was another persistent problem. His system could turn emotional and sanity fragments into nourishment, but the Warp offered few sources. Initially, his own reflection frightened him enough to produce food; that method stopped working once he became accustomed to his appearance. He also recalls cooking and eating his own flesh during periods of hunger 2 24 49.

Capturing the Valkyrie

Lin En eventually provoked Shinsen Saya into approaching his black mist, expanded it around her, and waited for her power to decline. Once her light faded, he restrained her with mist-formed chains and repeatedly gagged her, collecting fragments generated by her anger 1 2.

Under interrogation, Saya explained the Warp, the Seven Nights World, and her thousand-year duty of maintaining the sun that sealed the great rift. Lin En promised to release her, then openly broke that promise: he intended to keep her as a continuing source of emotional nourishment. He left her imprisoned while departing for Seven Nights 3.

Descent into Seven Nights

During the crimson blood moon, the system located a dead human vessel with 41% compatibility and waived the usual 500-satiety descent cost. It pulled Lin En through the rift before he agreed. Although he said he wanted to settle down, the system recorded an objective of slaughtering the surface population—a directive distinct from his stated intention 4.

The vessel had a missing brain stem, disintegrating memories, and insufficient capacity for further power increases. Lin En struggled to walk and control its facial muscles, while his voice and presence terrified Glass Lamp. Unable to read the street signs, he subsequently reached Hana Ye’s house instead of his intended address 5 6 8 10.

He killed a pursuing Heart-Burrowing Demon through sheer terror and discovered that Hana Ye was the target of a Blood-Character Bounty Writ. He then agreed to escort her home after obtaining a blood-stamped indenture contract naming her his “little wife.” At her Castle, he comforted her loneliness and repelled a sinister presence outside her room 13 15 20.

Investigating His Vessel’s Murder

After inspecting a hole in the vessel’s brain, Lin En suspected that its Origin Substance had been removed before his arrival. He and Hana Ye retraced the route along which the corpse had been dragged, discovering a hidden Spirit Realm Overlay and a student ID naming its owner Link Lucifer 22 24.

At the academy, Shakira recognized him as Lin Ke, her boyfriend of three years. Lin En posed as an amnesiac while investigating the vessel’s relationships. He also brutally defeated Loren after Loren interrupted his enjoyment of returning to a classroom 25 26 27 29.

Shakira later smashed his head, believing she had killed him. Lin En regenerated and revealed that he was an otherworldly occupant of Lin Ke’s already-dead body. Her emotional fragments had exposed her fear and deception from their first meeting, so he had deliberately played along 33 35.

His interrogation established that Shakira had arranged Lin Ke’s murder to obtain his Holy Flame Origin Substance. Lin En offered to spare her if she helped recover it and establish his assumed identity, but she attacked again. He crushed her to death and collected her Origin Substance 37 38.

Second-Stage Advancement

Lin En confronted Shakira’s accomplices and initiated advancement during his battle with Skeleton Lord Salgon. After overpowering Salgon, he recovered the stolen Origin Substance and learned that the conspirators belonged to the Crimson Secret Cult, which worshipped the Crimson King 42 44 46.

His expanding power ruptured the vessel’s limits, collapsing a section of the street into the Spirit Realm. Even its second layer could not withstand his escaping aura. Before withdrawing to the Warp, he seized Salgon’s soul and took it with him 46 47.

Once his metamorphosis finished, Lin En accepted Salgon as a servant and investigated his new abilities. He successfully created and fused Origin Substances, then proposed using repeated fusion to assemble a substance containing identical Sequences. This remained an idea rather than a completed achievement 48 49 50.

Appearance

Lin En’s native body is tadpole-like rather than humanoid. His first-stage form is roughly the size of a goose egg, with a single large eye and two small tentacles; his second stage is a much larger aberrant tadpole with dozens of thick tentacles 1 48.

Personality

Lin En strongly associates ordinary human comforts with recovering the life he lost. A soft bed nearly moves him to tears, and sitting at a classroom desk becomes an emotional reunion with his vanished youth. Despite his monstrous body, he repeatedly insists that he is human and wants to integrate into human society 10 22 25 27.

He is patient when pursuing revenge but highly volatile when provoked. Capturing Saya requires years of observation and a carefully timed trap; Loren’s destruction of his desk, by contrast, triggers an immediate beating that takes the entire class to stop. He enjoys taunting opponents and deliberately cultivating their anger or fear for nourishment 1 2 27 43.

His tenderness toward Hana Ye coexists with coercion and bullying. He offers comfort and promises protection, yet obtains an indenture contract, repeatedly frightens her, and physically punishes her after a cannon accident. His treatment of Saya likewise combines calculated exploitation with a desire to repay years of suffering 3 15 20 40.

Converts emotional and sanity fragments into satiety and nourishment for advancement 2.
