Bai Yaoyao had just finished noting down the important dates and events from her memories when Fat Brother arrived.
"Sister Yao, come on! Eat it while it's hot!"
Watching that great mass of flesh stride toward her put Bai Yaoyao in a wonderful mood. Fat Brother looked honest and simple, but he was actually the most cunning of them all and valued his life more than anyone. Remembering how he had been sliced into chunks of flesh while saving her in her previous life made her heart ache.
Fat Brother might have been fat, but he was a skilled fighter and surprisingly agile. He had also awakened Earth Ability and metal abilities, giving him unbeatable defense and decent damage output. He was the team's frontline tank, able to take hits and dish them out.
Bai Yaoyao deftly took the lobster and dug in without another word. During ten years in the apocalypse, even a hot meal had been a luxury, let alone a delicacy like lobster.
This time, she had her storage space ahead of time. She needed to plan carefully, get some money, and stockpile supplies.
In just a few bites, Bai Yaoyao devoured a lobster as big as a child's arm, leaving Fat Brother stunned.
"Sister Yao, what's gotten into you? This..."
Bai Yaoyao smiled and put the unfinished lobster into her storage space. After a two-second pause, she took it out again, then put it back inside.
Fat Brother shot to his feet at the sight.
He froze for several seconds. When he recovered, the honest, simple expression vanished from his face. Fully on guard, he quickly searched the room.
Only after confirming that no one else was there did he return and tell Bai Yaoyao, "I'm going to find Peiqi and have her hypnotize me into forgetting what happened today. The fewer people who know about this, the safer you'll be. Ideally, no one should know. I don't want to know what extraordinary thing happened to you. I just want you safe."
He gave Bai Yaoyao a worried look, silently cursing, This silly girl is fucking determined to make me worry, then turned to leave.
"Fat Brother, come back. You'll find out sooner or later. We're almost out of time," Bai Yaoyao said.
Fat Brother stopped. After a long hesitation, he stamped his foot and turned around. "Oh, my Sister Yao, what the hell is going on?"
Bai Yaoyao sucked her fingers clean and laughed. "Haha, I thought you weren't curious!"
"How could I not be curious? I'm fucking dying to know! What is this..."
Before Fat Brother could finish, Bai Yaoyao interrupted him, her expression serious. "Fat Brother, aside from Master, you're the person I trust most in this world. What I'm about to tell you might sound unbelievable, but it's true."
"In three months, the apocalypse will begin. Lots of people will turn into zombies, including Lulu and Chenxuan.
"The rest of us awakened abilities. Facing countless zombies and endless Mutant Beasts, we struggled through the apocalypse for ten years. In the end, we failed in a boss fight. We all died, and I was reborn today.
"What you just saw was my ability-a spatial ability."
Fat Brother's tiny, slit-like eyes gradually widened into little brass bells. He leaned back against the sofa, at a loss for words for a long time.
"Sister Yao, which of us died first?"
"You did. Saving me," Bai Yaoyao answered.
"Good. I died like a man. I didn't let Master down after what he asked of me on his deathbed." Fat Brother let out a deep breath.
Bai Yaoyao did the same. Thankfully, Fat Brother hadn't taken her for a lunatic.
Fat Brother suddenly stood up and felt Bai Yaoyao's forehead. With his other hand on his hip, he asked:
"How many fingers?"
"One."
"How many fingers?"
"Two."
"What's one plus one?"
Bai Yaoyao: ╯﹏╰
"Fat Brother, I'm telling the truth," Bai Yaoyao said, pressing a hand to her forehead.
"Ah, I wish it weren't true. I wish you were just drunk or running a fever.
"Tell me what you need me to do. I currently have 360 million in funds, plus about another 80 million in movable assets and real estate. I'll sell them off as quickly as possible, then transfer everything to your account."
Fat Brother laid all his cards on the table.
Bai Yaoyao gave him a thumbs-up. "I'm not planning to tell anyone else. Let's keep it between us, in case we cause some kind of butterfly effect. We'll gather everyone together before it happens.
"We'll work separately. You know weapons, so don't transfer your money to me. Spend it all on weapons. Don't bother with anything low-powered; it won't do much against zombies. Get heavy machine guns, sniper rifles, bombs, and things like that. The more, the better, and the more powerful, the better."
"No problem. I'll set off right now. I'll probably have to visit a few places. Do we need medicine? If we do, leave that to me too. I have contacts," Fat Brother agreed at once.
"We do. Those will all be desperately scarce during the apocalypse. Even if we don't use them ourselves, we can trade them to bases for points and crystals. Huaguo maintained order better than any other country in the world. I worked with its authorities before. They're absolutely reliable.
"We all need to return to Huaguo before the apocalypse," Bai Yaoyao said, telling Fat Brother her plan outright.
"No problem, Sister Yao. I'm off!"
"All right. Stay safe. See you!"
After Fat Brother left, Bai Yaoyao took out her phone and tallied up all her assets.
Her Swiss bank account held the five hundred million US dollars Master had left her.
She also had over eight hundred million Huaguo yuan in her personal account. It looked like a lot, but no matter how much money you had, it never lasted once you started spending.
After a moment's hesitation, she made a call.
"Hello, beautiful assassin! How come you've got time to call me? Fancy having dinner with a handsome guy like me?"
"I'll take the job you mentioned last time." Ignoring the playful voice on the other end, Bai Yaoyao got straight to the point.
"Hahaha, now that's what I like to hear! Once we hang up, I'll send you a hundred million as a deposit. As soon as he's dead, five hundred million will go straight into your account."
"Deal."
Less than five minutes after she hung up, she received a notification that a hundred million had been transferred to her account.
"Wang Fugui. Male. More money than brains. Patriotic."
That was the client information Bai Yaoyao had saved in her phone contacts. They had worked together once before. He was the only son of Huaguo's Wang family. He was mediocre at making money, but exceptionally good at spending it.
He had paid a fortune to get her contact details and asked her to assassinate Shinichi Sato, R Country's biggest entrepreneur, simply because the man had declared in public, "Huaguo will never surpass our great R Empire."
Bai Yaoyao had been slightly injured on her last job, so she had told him she would think about it.
Now that she had her storage space, her safety was guaranteed even though she couldn't use her offensive ability yet. She really didn't want to pass up a chance to make a fortune.
Once she had decided, she immediately booked a flight to R Country. Along with killing her target, she intended to stockpile a batch of supplies there first.
In her previous life, Bai Yaoyao had heard from the authorities that R Country had been all but wiped out early in the apocalypse. Surrounded by the sea, it had suffered seawater flooding caused by torrential rain, followed by two major earthquakes. Ordinary people had no way to protect themselves.
It wouldn't be too much to go over and gather some supplies, would it?
Rather than let an entire country's supplies go to waste, she might as well take them. That way, she wouldn't have to stockpile so much after returning to Huaguo, or empty supermarkets and compete with ordinary people for necessities. The more humans survived, the more hope there would be.
Ending the apocalypse was definitely not something one person could accomplish alone.
