The monster in the mist seemed to notice her faint trembling, and a trace of unmistakable mockery surfaced in its hollow black eyes.
This little was enough to terrify her so badly? How laughable.
Ye Buyu trembled harder and harder, the spasms spreading from her fingers to her shoulders, then her neck.
She slowly raised her hands and gripped the Flower Edict with both.
A dazzling light blazed in her eyes as she stared straight at the colossal creature before her.
"I'm not afraid of you. I'm just taking control of my body!"
Ye Buyu knew the monster before her was the most terrifying thing she had ever seen. Merely facing it had left her unable to move.
So she had only one chance-one chance to fire.
Under the pressure of life and death, Ye Buyu emptied her mind for the first time and forced every bit of power in her body into the gun's chamber.
Fear, courage, mental power, healing.
With the resolve to stake everything on this one shot, she fired the bullet that combined them all!
Red light burst from the muzzle, tearing through the thick mist. Reflected in those mocking eyes, it became a tiny spark that vanished into the fog.
"An ant's struggles are always so futile."
"Are they?"
Ye Buyu lowered her arms and stared fixedly at the creature. An overwhelming fury of unknown origin burned up from her chest, deepening the red of her eyes.
She slowly parted her lips and uttered a single word.
"Begone."
Unlike before, her voice had a hollow quality, piercing straight into the soul like a Word Spirit.
In the dense mist, those mocking eyes abruptly froze. The creature tried to advance again, only to find itself bound in place, a tight, shackling sensation rising from the depths of its soul.
"Human, I will remember you."
As its resentful voice faded, the mist gradually dispersed, and the scene became clear again.
Wang Yajing's anxious cries reached her ears.
"Ye Buyu! Ye Buyu!"
She turned in a daze and discovered that many more people had gathered around her.
It was as though everything that had just happened had been nothing but an illusory dream.
Ye Buyu's legs gave out, and she sank to the ground, looking up at Wang Yajing and the others.
"What... just happened?"
"You seemed to be trapped in some kind of nightmare. No matter how much we called, you wouldn't wake up, and then you suddenly unleashed a huge surge of power. What exactly did you see?"
Wang Yajing and the others were baffled.
The swamp was still quiet. No enormous creature had appeared at all. Ye Buyu, on the other hand, looked as though she had fought a brutal battle.
"Could it be a psychic Calamity?" Qiu Zhi looked around. "But there's no sign of any Calamity approaching."
Even a psychic Calamity should have needed to get close to its target to use its ability, yet they had sensed no powerful Calamity nearby.
Ye Buyu frowned. Little Whale, are you dead?
"Wow, that's harsh. Of course I'm alive and well. I even got to watch quite a show just now. You really are brave."
What exactly happened? Why didn't you answer when I called you?
Little Whale paused. "If I said I wanted to give you some training, would you be angry?"
I'd beat you to death. Seriously.
Little Whale sighed. "You always treat me as your ultimate safety net. That's not good for your development. Didn't you do well just now? Even without me, you managed to deal with the crisis."
Just as Ye Buyu clenched her fists and gritted her teeth, Little Whale's voice suddenly turned serious.
"Seriously, get everyone out of this area. They can't handle the nasty thing in here."
Ye Buyu frowned. What exactly is it?
"A psychic Calamity. Let your human authorities investigate the rest. I'm not Baidu Encyclopedia. If you don't leave now, everyone here will die."
Ye Buyu looked up at the unconcerned crowd. Some thought this was all a farce-that she had hallucinated under the influence of Calamity power because she was too weak.
"Come on, let's get back to hunting Corrupt Corpse Crocodiles."
"Break it up. You still need more training, young lady. Hallucinations aren't a good sign."
Captain Hao Liang and the others, however, did not think Ye Buyu was the type to make a fuss over nothing. Her ability was special-too special for them to ignore.
"Ye Buyu, what exactly did you see?"
"We have to seal off this area. There's a psychic Calamity in there." Ye Buyu pushed herself to her feet.
"A psychic Calamity? But we just checked. There aren't any Calamities within a dozen meters or so," Liao Yong said.
Ye Buyu's expression darkened. She caught the hem of Wang Yajing's clothes. "What if that Calamity is so enormous that a distance of a dozen meters means nothing to it?
"Just one of that thing's eyes is over ten meters across. It's right beneath this swamp. Contact the Tidewater Workshop and the Social Security Bureau and have them deal with it, or everyone will die here."
Qiu Zhi abruptly turned and ran toward the person in charge of the site.
"Seal this place off, now! Get those people out of the swamp! There's a huge psychic Calamity in there!"
The man in charge frowned. "Don't be ridiculous. This swamp has always been safe. It's a Third-Level Blue-Label Zone. Specialists come every month to confirm the safe boundaries.
"You're saying there's a huge Calamity in there, and a psychic one at that? That's impossible."
The man waved a hand, refusing to believe him and even showing a hint of disdain.
"That classmate of yours is only at the second tier, isn't she? She must have been badly contaminated by Calamity power and started hallucinating. Instead of wasting time on this nonsense, take her for treatment."
Qiu Zhi stopped the man as he tried to leave, his expression grave.
"You'd better take this seriously. Her ability is very special. If your mistake lets a huge psychic Calamity wreak havoc on people, can you take responsibility for that?"
The people who had withdrawn from the center of the swamp were already steering their wooden boats back in.
Ye Buyu pounded the ground in frustration. That thing was definitely dangerous, and Little Whale's warning was proof enough.
The Tidewater Workshop... the Tidewater Workshop.
She lowered her head, opened her wristwatch, and dialed a number, her gaze never leaving the swamp steeped in the aura of death.
"Pick up, Mu Bingge. We're almost out of time." Ye Buyu bit her lip, her hand still trembling as she dialed.
Captain Hao Liang and Liao Yong exchanged a look and nodded, then headed toward the swamp in unspoken agreement.
"No problem with knocking them out and carrying them away, right?"
"If they won't listen to reason, we'll just have to use extreme measures."
The two suddenly charged toward the swamp.
Wang Yajing took a deep breath and opened her wristwatch to contact the Social Security Bureau.
"I hope you're right."
After an agonizing wait, Mu Bingge's calm voice came through the terminal.
"Ye Buyu? What did you need me..."
"The Corrosion Swamp, Mu Bingge! Have the Tidewater Workshop seal off the Corrosion Swamp and evacuate everyone. There's a huge psychic Calamity here. If we don't seal it off and evacuate now, everyone will die!"
Ye Buyu's urgent voice reached Mu Bingge through the terminal.
Her expression shifted slightly, and she turned to the assistant beside her. "Stop all operations in the Corrosion Swamp immediately. Arrange for everyone inside to evacuate."
Mu Bingge's eyes flashed. "I'll go myself!"
