Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Awakening / Zero Rank | 3 7 9 | Awakens Life Breath during the Whale of Wailing encounter. Her involuntary healing forces the Calamity to surrender a remnant as payment; she returns with white hair and red eyes but remains below tier one. |
| Tier One | 11 12 | Reaches tier one after several days of Zhang Ying’s experiments and repeated potion feeding. Mu Bingge notes that the advancement took just over two weeks; Little Whale devises Gun Oath for her at this stage. |
| Tier Two | 30 37 47 | Confirmed after the field assessment; the exact breakthrough is not shown. Mu Bingge judges her recovery speed comparable to a fourth-tier healer. Advancing does not increase Compulsory Cost. |
| Blessed One abilities / Fourth-Tier combat strength before Fourth Tier | 94 95 96 | Despite her earlier refusal, she subsequently acquires Blessed One power. Little Whale says it lets her defeat ordinary Fourth Tiers, and Soul Lock is identified as her first Blessed One skill. This is distinct from her actual Awakened tier. |
| Soul Power breakthrough | 84 95 107 | Reforges a weapon from human souls and helps bring a new power into being at the Withered Glory Theatre. Her soul gun remains usable in a situation where both Life Breath and her Blessed One abilities appear unavailable. |
| Tier Three | 123 125 | Explicitly identifies herself as Third Tier while demonstrating Soul Power against Qin Yue. Has mastered soul self-destruction and seeks to make it and Soul Creation available as learnable skills. |
| Tier Four | 134 140 186 188 | Confirmed after the River of Forgetfulness events. Receives Other Shore, which can merge with her soul creation. Her earlier attack into the Ninth-Tier Zone depended on borrowed River of Forgetfulness power, not her unaided Fourth-Tier strength. |
| Fifth Order | 276 278 | Explicitly confirmed during the competition and her encounter with Pollution’s true body. She considers advancement urgent and cannot match a Calamity Lord through ordinary strength. |
| Tier Seven | 390 393 | An advancement crisis allows a Nightmare remnant to possess her. After the crisis passes, the red mist is absorbed into her body and she enters Seventh Tier. |
| Tier Eight | 588 635 | Explicitly confirmed during the Sinful Karma confrontation and her battles in the Calamities’ lair. Uses Cause-and-Effect Power and debt priority against much higher-ranked enemies, but still requires help against Sinful Karma. |
| Ninth Rank | 635 637 | Breaks through while fighting in the Calamities’ lair, gaining a deeper understanding of her Origin Power. Makes an old, healed wound inflicted on Withering reappear. |
| Conditional god-level combat strength | 711 713 715 | In Eternal Life’s domain, gathers hundreds of millions of strands of cause and effect associated with souls. This home-field advantage raises her strength to the level of a god; it is not presented as an ordinary rank advancement. |
| Godhead formation | 749 | Forms her Godhead alongside the other members of the Six while they arrange events that shaped their own lives. The Six send a black box containing their Origin Power through time. |
| New-universe awakening / Recovery of dormant power | 777 778 | Sends a red thread through the new universe, stirring cause and effect and restoring fragmented memories and dormant power. External witnesses to the old universe’s end and the new universe’s birth provide anchors that make her renewed existence possible. |
Background / History
Before awakening, Ye Buyu saved money, had no particularly close friends, and considered a quiet, ordinary life acceptable. She knew little about Awakened education or Four Symbols Academy’s hazards 2 5 6.
After rejecting an exploitative company’s job offer, she recognized the human disaster Streetlamp and tried to flee. Its explosion destroyed the company and killed her. She then awakened aboard Ferryman No. 477’s boat in the River of Forgetfulness, unusually conscious among sleeping souls 1 3.
When the Whale of Wailing appeared, Ye Buyu capsized the boat while frantically rowing. Despite the grief induced by its cries, she recognized that their sudden sadness was abnormal and used the ferryman’s radio to request rescue. During the authorities’ intervention, she glimpsed the whale as the wreckage of a dead world and witnessed visions of another world’s destruction before losing consciousness 2 3.
She regained consciousness in a hospital with a restored body and altered hair and eye colors. Medical examinations found her body normal, leaving Si Weijian to suspect a change involving her soul. Because she could perceive a Calamity’s underlying nature, the Social Security Bureau arranged special admission, protection, and training at Four Symbols Academy 3 4.
Her later experiences reveal that her history extends beyond her remembered human life. Little Whale had encountered her before her birth, and her actions across time helped establish the circumstances she would subsequently experience. These include her connection to the Withered Glory Theatre, Little Whale’s acquisition of Thousand Tides Tracing the Moon, and the collection of a price that forced Little Whale into the River of Forgetfulness 225.
In the Abyss, souls recognize her as a silent, white-haired infant whose soul had not yet fully formed. Memories reveal that Gestation, a Man-Made Calamity formed from countless mothers’ souls and the protective wishes of living beings, created her using a segment of the Causal Line and the nourishment of pure souls, then sent her into the Present World. Ye Buyu initially reacts with distress to learning that she is not biologically an ordinary human 511 512 514 515.
She ultimately witnesses Gestation’s sacrifice more directly and understands her birth as an act of love rather than merely a product of manipulation or a miraculous causal loop. Separately, she and her teammates discover that the black box they send through time supplies the power that follows her into the Present World and triggers the explosion at the beginning of her story 749.
After the Past Universe’s cause and effect perish and a new universe is born, external observers serve as anchors for her continued existence. Their arrival and contribution of power cause her to awaken earlier than she expected 778.
Appearance
Ye Buyu originally had black hair and black eyes in her remembered human life. After returning from the River of Forgetfulness, both changed dramatically. Later memories show that her original, prehuman form already possessed white hair and red eyes 3 514.
- Hair: Long, silvery-white, falling over her shoulders and chest 3.
- Eyes: Clear, translucent red, compared to rubies, pomegranates, and sunlit cherries 3.
- Eyelashes: Snow-white 3.
- Overall impression: Her pale fragility and unusual coloring are compared to a spider lily blooming in hell 7.
- During Little Whale’s takeover: Her irises turn blue, with a whale appearing within them 27.
- Other Shore ornament: Can wear the weapon as a ruby-like Otherworldly Flower in her hair. During her Seventh-Tier advancement, the red ornament grows brighter and develops faint silver patterns 140 393.
- Cat form: Remains in cat form during a later rescue; when Lan Huaiyu questions her, she says that her body has fallen apart 508.
- New-universe appearance: Appears childlike, retaining her silvery-white hair and crimson eyes. She initially pretends to be a child while attempting to avoid her teammates’ scrutiny 777.
Personality
Ye Buyu is cautious, easily embarrassed, and outspoken about her weaknesses. She asks stronger companions to handle her gently, worries that her compulsory payment will make teammates avoid her, and initially prefers hiding to confronting enemies beyond her strength. Her fear frequently comes out as profanity and sarcastic complaints 5 7 12 29.
Her caution does not prevent curiosity or ambition. She turns back into the assessment forest after deciding to leave, enthusiastically tests unusual weapons, and seeks offensive options rather than accepting a healer’s lack of killing power. Nevertheless, she firmly rejects Little Whale’s initial offer to make her a Blessed One of the Whale of Wailing 16 30 32 33.
Under pressure, she can put others’ survival ahead of her own safety. At the mire, she deliberately draws an angry crowd toward herself to keep them away from the approaching threat. Wang Yajing recognizes that Ye Buyu is still terrified, but admires her willingness to act as bait 50.
She does not regard exceptional power as something she must monopolize. When Qin Yue asks why she would turn her soul techniques into skills others can learn, she explains that bearing the burden alone would be overwhelming and recalls her helplessness when Streetlamp killed her. She actively recruits help to develop and distribute Soul’s New Path 117 123 125.
As captain, she combines tactical deception with reliance on her teammates. During the competition, she turns the other contestants’ hostility into an opportunity to secure her team’s top-six objective. Conversely, her habit of undertaking dangerous investigations alone frightens her companions, who repeatedly make her promise not to leave them behind 307 315 344 345.
Her sympathy for isolated people is evident in her promise to remember Wen Ling despite the latter’s Oblivion ability making almost everyone else forget her 265 266.
Ye Buyu is fiercely opposed to those who impose oppressive rules on living beings. She rejects Li Yong’s demand that she join the Rift and become a Calamity even after suffering crippling injuries, and later challenges Eternal Life’s claim to stand above the beings it enslaves. Her fear and self-deprecation coexist with increasingly uncompromising convictions 463 713.
She can also become carried away in battle, particularly when she has sufficient support or a strong home-field advantage. Her teammates recognize this tendency and describe her as someone who understates what she can accomplish 711 713.
Abilities & Skills
Perception of Calamities’ True Nature
Ye Buyu can see through Calamities’ outward appearances to their underlying forms, giving her information unavailable to ordinary observers 3 6 24.
- Recognizes the Whale of Wailing as the floating wreckage of a dead world 3.
- Sees the academy’s Headless Corpse as a basketball hoop and guides Mu Bingge in throwing its head through the hoop, making it flee 7 8.
- Handles obstructing warship tentacles as though they were dead branches 20 21.
- Locates the Wind-Thunder Cantor through its storm, allowing Kou Ying to aim the warship’s cannon accurately 23 24.
- Sees a later entity as a twisted wad of rotten rags while her companions and other observers perceive warriors, scholars, leaders, valuables, or other desired images 734.
- Limitation: Perceiving the underlying form does not automatically tell her what it is or how dangerous it remains. She mistakes the buried interstellar warship for an ordinary mountain 13 20.
Life Breath
Although initially classified as a healing ability, Ye Buyu’s Life Breath restores a target toward its original form rather than simply transferring usable energy. This distinction makes her healing harmful to Calamities when it removes their calamity power 6 11.
- Restores injuries and depleted energy; she can also heal herself 37 40 50.
- Rapidly clears lingering Calamity Aura. At tier two, Mu Bingge considers its recovery speed comparable to that of a fourth-tier Healing Type 37.
- Weakens Calamities by restoring them toward their original forms; her healing bullets dissolve Bajiao’s vines 11 39.
- Can be delivered through a slap, high-five, foot stomp, or compressed bullet 11 25 37.
- Can affect someone through their weapon: striking Lou Guanshan’s Mo Dao heals him 37.
- Later supports broad healing and enhancement through a spear planted in the ground, while opposing teachers struck by the effect must provide payment to avoid collapsing 146.
- Can purify Pollution’s true body. Pollution becomes fascinated by this property and repeatedly pursues her for further treatment 278 280.
- Restores Su Wuwei and Kou Ying from their Calamity forms to human form. Neither she nor her teammates initially understands the exact principle behind this restoration 344.
- Sustains her life after Li Yong inflicts otherwise devastating injuries, including a shattered shoulder and severed arm 463.
- Limitations: Its mana consumption is high, and repeated use exhausts her. Recovery potions help sustain extended treatment. She explicitly distinguishes healing from resurrection when Huang Songming proposes dangerous sparring 10 12 48 50 187.
Compulsory Cost
Healing establishes a forced exchange: the recipient must pay Ye Buyu a price. Unpaid recipients can become immobilized, kneel involuntarily, or suffer other restrictive effects 9 10 14 50.
- Payment rules: The recipient must willingly surrender something; money does not qualify 10.
- Advance payment: Providing materials before treatment prevents the restrictive side effects 12 37.
- No refunds: Returning Hao Liang’s payment makes him fall back to his knees 10.
- Resistance to purification: Zhang Ying’s level-seven Soul-Returning Bell cannot remove Hao Liang’s restriction 10.
- Material extraction: Calamities surrender body parts or other material. Ye Buyu uses this to weaken enemies and obtain unusually large crocodile-tear crystals 10 14 48.
- Actions as payment: She can demand an action instead of material, compelling a wooden Calamity to attack surrounding Calamities 36.
- Spell interruption: Against Yan You, she refuses his proposed payment and demands that he stop his blood ritual, preventing him from continuing it 25 26.
- Weapon contact counts: A bullet intercepted by the Wind-Thunder Cantor’s scepter still forces payment 25.
- Questions as payment: Explains that her questions to Wen Ling have already paid the latter’s Compulsory Cost 265.
- Ransom and elimination: Forces opposing contestants to choose between surrendering their Identity Cards and paying enough to regain the use of their knees 418.
- Delayed collection: Against two Level Thirteen Calamities, deliberately sets a price and waits for the effect to immobilize them before killing both with her spear 619.
- Limitations: The effect must land. Enemies can dodge or intercept shots with another target, and a compelled recipient can throw payment violently enough to endanger her. An opponent who knows the rules can keep supplying materials and neutralize the restrictive effect, as Mu Bingge does during their match 25 26 36 39 268.
Gun Oath
Little Whale improvises Gun Oath because Ye Buyu cannot yet use the more advanced skill it first provides. It compresses her healing ability into bullets fired through a gun 11.
- Delivers healing and Compulsory Cost at range 17 37.
- Lets her restore allies without requiring them to leave combat and approach her 37.
- Creates uncertainty over whether a shot will heal or harm, especially after the Flower Edict gains an offensive upgrade 33 38.
Thousand Tides Tracing the Moon
Little Whale places knowledge of Thousand Tides Tracing the Moon into Ye Buyu’s mind, but she initially considers it beyond her ability to learn. She later successfully uses it, although the exertion leaves her completely exhausted 9 11 173.
- Uses moonlight fragments and a tide-like reversal to restore injuries and strength 9.
- Can place moon-phase marks on teammates for continuing healing, with the marks fading as the moon’s phases change 9.
- Demonstrated cost: After using it during the Earthshaker events, she lies on the ground unable to lift a finger 173.
- Temporal origin: Later learns that she herself gave the skill to Little Whale in an earlier era, asking it to resist becoming a Calamity 225.
Little Whale’s Protection and Intervention
Little Whale introduces itself as a remnant of the level-ten Whale of Wailing, surrendered when Ye Buyu’s awakening forced the Calamity to pay for being healed. It inhabits her mental space and serves as an adviser. Later developments complicate its original explanation: Ye Buyu questions whether it is truly only remains, and learns that they had already met across time before her birth 8 9 95 225.
- Says that no Calamity below level ten can invade her consciousness 9.
- Protects her from Calamity corruption, allowing her to test tainted weapons safely; level-ten corruption is the stated exception 32 33.
- Can take control while she is unconscious. During the assessment, it kills Yan You and erases the Wind-Thunder Cantor’s blessing 27 30 41.
- Warns that revealing its existence could draw Calamities into the Present World, prompting Ye Buyu to keep it secret 41.
- Under pressure from Ye Buyu, states that it means her no harm and will not hurt the Present World, while asking her to hold on longer 95.
- Later promises to fight Calamities below Level Thirteen when Hold Up the Heavens prepares to leave the Present World 397.
- Can act as a physical shield and swallow attackers, as demonstrated against Shiying and Yin Li. Suiyang nevertheless notes that Little Whale and Little Wan cannot act openly under those circumstances 438.
- Ye Buyu eventually demonstrates the ability to block and mute its mental commentary, though it can emerge and physically tug her hair 266.
- Unresolved limitations and exceptions: It does not answer her calls during the mire encounter, and its earlier protection claims do not explain the immobilization she experiences there. A Nightmare remnant later succeeds in taking over her body during an advancement crisis 48 49 390.
Mire Encounter: Command Effect
Against the enormous creature in the mist, Ye Buyu forces fear, courage, mental power, and healing into a single shot. Her subsequent command, “Begone,” binds the creature and is followed by its retreat 49.
- Her voice takes on a hollow, soul-piercing quality compared to a Word Spirit 49.
- Wang Yajing later feels an unexplained impulse to obey her request for a recovery potion 50.
- Ye Buyu orders previously healed people to evacuate, and they immediately rise and drag their teammates away 50.
- The initial chapters do not establish a separate skill name or fully explain these effects 49 50.
- Later demonstrates another soul-reaching vocal effect while chanting during her match against Mu Bingge, briefly making her opponent stiffen 268.
Blessed One Power and Soul Lock
Despite rejecting Little Whale’s initial offer, Ye Buyu later possesses power as a Blessed One of the Whale of Wailing. She initially worries that revealing it before the academy’s senior instructors will expose her connection to the Calamity 30 94 95.
- Soul Lock: Her first Blessed One skill targets a soul rather than merely tracking a physical body, giving her attacks a guaranteed-hit property under suitable conditions 96.
- Can apply Soul Lock to attacks other than bullets. During her demonstration against Wei Changming, she makes a giant palm pursue him after he attempts to dodge 143.
- Limitation: Guaranteed targeting does not prevent overwhelming force from destroying an attack before it takes effect. Lan Huaiyu crushes her Soul Lock bullet through superior strength 96.
Soul Power and Soul’s New Path
At the Withered Glory Theatre, Ye Buyu and countless human souls create an unfamiliar power and a soul-forged gun. She subsequently becomes the founder of Soul’s New Path, seeking to make the use of Soul Power reproducible rather than a personal secret 84 95 123 143.
- Soul Creation: Forms weapons, chains, large objects, and fabricated doubles from Soul Power. Her battle with Qin Yue includes a semi, a handgun, and a false body used to escape his grasp 123 125.
- Soul self-destruction: Can detonate souls and erase Believer Marks. She masters the process herself but initially cannot teach Wandering Soul to activate it independently, leading her to seek Su Wuwei and Wan Lan’s help in designing a usable skill 117 123.
- Soul Shock: Applies Soul Power to weapons or physical strikes, allowing her to shatter flying gravel, cut apart a stone slab, form a giant palm, and reinforce close-combat blows 143.
- Soul Threads and formations: Uses threads to bind, cut, establish paths, and arrange concealed attacks. Threads can also carry Su Wuwei’s flame to a target 148.
- Soul Projection: Borrows the River of Forgetfulness’s power and gathers the support of souls into a double-edged spear, projecting its power beyond the river 130 134 140.
- Independent weapon manifestation: Her soul gun functions during a trial where Life Breath and her Blessed One abilities seem unusable 107.
- Research and dissemination: Explains Soul Power to scholars and instructors, helping substantially advance research at the Scholars’ Association 145 186.
- Limitations: Constructed weapons and techniques still depend on available strength. Lan Huaiyu can sever her threads, and Ye Buyu cannot reproduce her River of Forgetfulness–empowered spear attack with her unaided Fourth-Tier power 140 148.
Purification and Reflection Techniques
Ye Buyu develops additional combat applications that combine her support role with direct offense and control 265 304 305.
- Purification Light Wheels: Releases wheels that multiply into dozens of attacks, restricting Wen Ling’s escape routes while invisible threads help trap her 265.
- Whale-Head Health-Preserving Mallet: Uses a whale-shaped hammer to deliver Life Breath and strike opponents. She can greatly enlarge its head by pouring power into it 265 304.
- Attack reflection: Uses her body as a shield to absorb an opponent’s attack and send it back. Demonstrates this against the Horizon Team’s combined blade attack, reproducing the blade against its users 305.
Cause-and-Effect Power
Ye Buyu’s later abilities are explicitly associated with causality, consistent with her origin as a segment of the Causal Line. Her power extends beyond healing and compulsory payment to perceiving connections, manipulating possible outcomes, and acting on prior causes 515 598 605 637.
- Causal perception: Sees densely intertwined relationships, including love, hatred, grudges, and past violence. Excessively tangled cause and effect can be overwhelming enough that she asks Mu Bingge to lead her while she keeps her eyes closed 705.
- Insulation shield: Seizes and magnifies an outcome in which incoming attacks miss. Arrows and flames veer away from her, and she later uses the technique while fighting higher-ranked Calamities 604 605 616.
- Induced self-injury: Defeats an ordinary Level Twelve Calamity while remaining in place as his attacks repeatedly injure himself 610.
- Disruptive causes: Fires large numbers of bullets so that one can become a disruptive cause capable of setting off a much larger chain of consequences 616.
- Stored causal effects: Plants Cause-and-Effect Power through attacks and later activates it to create an opening against the Bird-Head Calamity 635.
- Reactivation of past injury: After her rank breakthrough, makes Withering’s old wound from War and Madness reappear despite having already healed 637.
- Debt priority: Shields Calamities from Sinful Karma’s death judgments by asserting a higher-priority debt. She cannot directly sever the underlying judgment and must maintain the field while allies restrain the enemy 588.
- Accumulation through connected souls: Gathers hundreds of millions of strands of cause and effect in Eternal Life’s domain, temporarily raising her combat strength to a god’s level 711 715.
- Recovery across universes: Sends a red thread through the new universe to stir cause and effect and restore her fragmented memories and dormant power 777.
- Limitations: She explicitly says that directly altering causality is much more difficult than expected. Her insulation technique exploits an available outcome rather than simply rewriting cause and effect at will 605 616.
Combat Training and Endurance
Ye Buyu supplements supernatural abilities with formal shooting and martial arts instruction. Her teachers emphasize dodging straightforward attacks and mounting effective counterattacks 61.
- Quickly becomes capable of reliably hitting moving targets 61.
- Uses self-healing to sustain unusually intensive training, exhausting even her shooting instructor 61.
- Receives severe practical instruction from Lan Huaiyu and repeated sparring sessions with Huang Songming 96 187 188.
- Later combines spear techniques, firearms, punches, elbows, knees, kicks, and soul-enhanced close combat 125 143 619 635 713.
- Her healing does not eliminate the need for energy or make her invulnerable; she must replenish herself even after defeating high-ranked enemies 619.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Flower Edict — A silver-white gun engraved with an Otherworldly Flower; used to fire her ability-compressed bullets 13 17.
- Qiu Zhi modifies it in exchange for her testing his inventions 32.
- The upgrade adds lightning attacks, makes the gun more compact, and adjusts its handling to her fingers and application of force 33.
- Its first tested Lightning Bullet punches through a shooting-range target 33.
- Is later destroyed; Other Shore’s pistol form resembles the lost weapon 140.
- Wrist phone / communicator — Supplied by Lan Huaiyu for one credit; carries academy information and communications. Its adjustable green flashlight helps her direct the Headless Corpse experiment 6 8.
- Recovery potions — Supplied by Zhang Ying during testing and Wang Yajing during the mire emergency to replenish her depleted power 10 50.
- Wind-Thunder Cantor’s scepter fragment — Obtained through Compulsory Cost and immediately used to repower the failing Teleportation Channel 25.
- Thumb Ring — Houses the souls involved in the Withered Glory Theatre miracle. They later awaken and join the souls supporting her River of Forgetfulness spear 95 134.
- Soul gun — A weapon born from the soul miracle at the theatre. She can trace and manifest it using her own soul; she describes it as a gun that will never shatter 84 95.
- Other Shore — A soul-linked gift taking the form of a ruby-like Otherworldly Flower hair ornament, a silver-white double-edged spear, or a compact pistol 140.
- Whale-Head Health-Preserving Mallet — A whale-shaped hammer used for healing, purification, and heavy strikes; its head can expand dramatically when empowered 265 304.
- Divine Statuses and Fate Fragments — Uses pieces of Divine Status to replenish her strength and later refines Fate Fragments for the team during prolonged combat with gods. Damaged Divine Statuses also serve as payment to Suiyang 619 620 741.
- Black box — Created by Mu Bingge and filled with the Six’s Origin Power before being sent through the Thousand-Wind Ancient Road. Its power causes the explosion that begins Ye Buyu’s remembered story 749.
Relationships
- Little Whale — Bound Calamity companion, instructor, and mental protector. Their exchanges are frequently antagonistic, but it intervenes to save her. Their connection predates her birth through time travel; she previously gave it Thousand Tides Tracing the Moon and imposed a price that later forced it into the River of Forgetfulness 8 9 27 41 225.
- Mu Bingge — Roommate, teammate, and protector. Helps her explore her ability, rescues her during the assessment, and demonstrates that advance payment makes her healing practical in combat. Later becomes one of her five closest companions in Hold Up the Heavens, challenges her in a serious arena match, and makes her promise not to undertake dangerous journeys alone 6 8 18 27 37 268 269 344.
- Lan Huaiyu — Principal and protective mentor; arranges instruction and recognizes the value of her unusual perception. Later trains her harshly, encourages her to use her other sources of power, and questions her continued use of cat form after a rescue 6 29 39 95 96 508.
- Si Weijian — Social Security Bureau investigator who arranges her academy admission and requests close observation and protection. After the Thin Mist Priest battle, Ye Buyu deliberately lets him recognize her connection to the Whale of Wailing while concealing Little Whale’s existence, expressing trust in the Bureau’s judgment 3 4 59.
- Zhang Ying — Teacher who investigates her healing mechanics and feeds her recovery potions during experiments 10 11.
- Su Wuwei — Assessment ally who initially mistakes her for a Calamity, then proposes using her as bait while he defeats enemies. Later a core teammate, participant in Soul Power research, and fiercely protective companion who objects to her attempts to leave the team behind 13 14 15 117 288 315 344 345.
- Kou Ying — Ally in the warship evacuation and Points Competition. Protects her from Bajiao and transfers half his points to her after the attack. Later a core teammate whose shadows help rescue and defend her; their origins are revealed to be intertwined, and she restores him from a Calamity form 23 24 38 40 288 344 514.
- Lou Guanshan — Fellow examinee impressed by her instant ranged healing; offers to gather materials for her in exchange for support. Later a core teammate who rescues her through the earth, asks her to take at least one companion on dangerous journeys, and expresses absolute confidence in her understated assessments of her strength. Story Role / Major Arcs
Gaokao Field Assessment
Ye Buyu enters the field assessment at tier one and becomes involved in Yan You’s attempt to unleash remnants of Tempest Fiend. She uses a healing bullet to make the emerging Wind-Thunder Cantor throw her out of the storm, then warns nearby examinees to retreat 12 16 17 18.
During the evacuation, her perception allows her to direct the abandoned warship’s cannon through the storm. When the Teleportation Channel loses power, she forces the Cantor to surrender part of his scepter and uses it to restore the escape route. She briefly disrupts Yan You’s attempt to sabotage the evacuation before he knocks her unconscious; Little Whale then takes control and intervenes 23 24 25 26 27.
Points Competition and Joint Training
After the assessment exposes her lack of offensive power, Ye Buyu obtains Qiu Zhi’s lightning upgrade and enters the Points Competition with Mu Bingge. She experiments with making Calamities fight one another and successfully supports Mu Bingge, Kou Ying, and Lou Guanshan through prepaid healing 30 33 36 37.
Bajiao infiltrates the competition to question and capture her. After Kou Ying helps drive Bajiao away, Ye Buyu withdraws and reports the incident to the principals. Her final score is 116,572 points, substantially exceeding her hope of barely reaching twelfth place for the first joint-training batch; the supplied passages do not give her exact placement 39 40 41 44 46.
Her subsequent instruction includes intensive shooting and martial arts courses. She becomes reliable against moving targets but is repeatedly thrown and struck while learning basic defensive and counterattacking techniques 61.
First Mission: Crocodile Tears and the Mire Threat
Qiu Zhi recruits Ye Buyu as support for Captain Hao Liang’s crocodile-tear collection mission. Her healing slaps make living Corrupt Corpse Crocodiles surrender larger tear crystals, increasing the team’s harvest 47 48.
After detecting something enormous beneath the boat, she encounters a creature in the mist that immobilizes her while others perceive her as trapped in a nightmare. She forces it back with a shot and command, then insists that the area must be evacuated. When hunters refuse to leave, she shoots them with healing bullets to enable their removal and finally commands the healed people to evacuate their teammates as the mist spreads 48 49 50.
The ensuing battle reveals Twin Thin Mist Priests. When one controls the evacuating personnel, Ye Buyu alone remains lucid, tricks it into accepting her as a believer, and severely injures it. She and Mu Bingge, using the Flood King’s Crown, then kill both priests 59.
During Si Weijian’s investigation, she conceals Little Whale but intentionally makes her connection to the Whale of Wailing apparent. She explains privately that she wants the Social Security Bureau to know she trusts them and to let them decide how to handle her 59.
Withered Glory Theatre and the Birth of Soul Power
An ordinary encounter with former classmates draws Ye Buyu into a Calamity incident associated with Cloud Haze and then into the Withered Glory Theatre. While her teammates become Leading Actors, she initially occupies the position of an audience member 89.
Rejecting an outcome imposed by the theatre’s rules, she joins countless human souls in forging a new weapon and bringing a new power into being. This becomes the foundation of her later Soul Power techniques and soul gun 84 95.
The principals recognize that she has another source of power, and Lan Huaiyu begins training her before the planned date. Although Ye Buyu can fight at Fourth-Tier strength through Blessed One power, she and Kou Ying are decisively overwhelmed by Lan Huaiyu’s superior strength 94 95 96.
Later revelations connect Ye Buyu herself to the theatre’s founding through actions across time 225.
River of Forgetfulness and Soul’s New Path
During the River of Forgetfulness trials, Ye Buyu discovers that soul self-detonation can erase Believer Marks. Her inability to make Wandering Soul perform the process independently leads her to enlist Su Wuwei and Wan Lan in converting it into a learnable skill 117 123.
She demonstrates Soul Creation and close-combat applications against Qin Yue while still Third Tier, explaining that she wants others to share the power because the burden of possessing it alone would be too great. When Eternal Frozen Silence threatens the developing path, she borrows the River of Forgetfulness’s power and receives the support of souls to launch a projected spear attack 125 130 134.
After reaching Fourth Tier, she receives Other Shore and demonstrates Soul Shock against Wei Changming. The ensuing training battles inspire the teachers to explore Soul Power’s broader applications, establishing her role as the founder of Soul’s New Path 140 143 145 146 148.
Earthshaker and the Scholars’ Association
Ye Buyu participates in the events surrounding Earthshaker and the continuation of an ancient struggle between humans and a god. Her use of Thousand Tides Tracing the Moon leaves her almost completely drained, but she remains confident that the human side will win 173 174.
At the Scholars’ Association, her advice substantially advances Soul Power research. Huang Songming begins intensive sparring with her, both to improve her practical combat ability and to investigate whether the power associated with her threatens her well-being 186 187 188.
Arena Competition and Pollution’s Headquarters
During the later competition, Ye Buyu defeats Wen Ling with purification wheels, threads, and her whale-headed mallet, then promises to remember her despite Oblivion. She subsequently faces Mu Bingge in a match that exposes how effectively advance payment can counter Compulsory Cost. Their fight runs past the allotted time, and Ye Buyu accidentally strikes the Narrator who intervenes 265 266 268 269 270.
At Fifth Order, she is stranded with Pollution’s true body. The Calamity Lord discovers that she can purify him and allows her into his headquarters, where she plans to gather power from Calamity remains. Her photographs of herself posing with him alarm her allies 278 280.
Her teammates’ attempt to retrieve her becomes a violent tug-of-war over her body. Furious at being treated as a toy, she demands that everyone release her and punches Pollution away when he refuses 288.
Back in competitive combat, her sustain, purification, and reflection techniques make her a priority target. Hold Up the Heavens turns that concentrated hostility into a strategy that eliminates the biggest obstacles to securing the top six 304 305 307.
Seedling Eater and the Journey into the Past
Seeking answers about Seedling Eater and her apparent alternate identity, Ye Buyu plans to leave for the River of Forgetfulness alone. Her teammates confront her and reveal hidden powers and identities in an effort to demonstrate that she need not bear the danger herself 315.
Seedling Eater’s attack sends her through a mysterious Mark into an earlier era, where she encounters the Hunger King. She realizes that her actions in the past will cause events she has already experienced 321 322 323.
To preserve the route by which she arrived, she instructs the earlier Seedling Eater to attack the future person who asks about her using the phrase “Alternate Identity.” She recognizes that she has arranged her own terrifying encounter 325.
After returning, she restores Su Wuwei and Kou Ying from their Calamity forms and confirms that she has visited a past timeline. Her teammates make her promise not to go alone again, and Wan Lan explains how frightening it would be to search an entire world for someone who might never return 344 345.
Nightmare Possession and Departure from the Present World
An advancement attempt goes wrong when excess energy overwhelms Ye Buyu and a Nightmare remnant seizes her body. Its red mist spreads toward the city, triggering evacuation and the Doomsday Tower’s alarm while she remains alive but trapped 390.
After the crisis is resolved, she absorbs the remaining red mist and enters Seventh Tier. During the breakthrough, she glimpses a scene associated with the Great Cataclysm 393.
Hold Up the Heavens subsequently prepares to leave the Present World. Ye Buyu reassures the experts about the team’s ability to protect itself and awakens Little Wan to open the Myriad Worlds Silent Palace, inadvertently exposing another connection to the Salvation Hall of Fame 397.
The Rift, the Abyss, and Her Origins
Li Yong attempts to force Ye Buyu to join the Rift and become a Calamity. She refuses despite his overwhelming strength; he shatters her shoulder, severs her arm, and throws her through multiple trees. Life Breath keeps her clinging to life 463.
Following later battles and a rescue involving warships, Lan Huaiyu finds her still in cat form. Ye Buyu says that her body has fallen apart 508.
In the Abyss, souls recognize her from before her remembered birth. Their memories reveal Gestation’s role in creating her from a karmic thread, a Man-Made Calamity, and countless pure souls. She struggles with the discovery that she is not an ordinary human but resolves to take the souls with her into the future 511 512 513 514 515.
To evacuate them, the group plans to construct a Little River of Forgetfulness. Ye Buyu assigns Mu Bingge and Su Wuwei to help build it while she, Wan Lan, and Lou Guanshan search for materials 515.
Sinful Karma and the Salvation Hall of Fame
Against Sinful Karma, Ye Buyu disrupts its control over karma and uses a higher-priority debt to suspend its death judgments against other Calamities. Still only Eighth Tier, she admits that she cannot defeat it alone and rallies the assembled powers to restrain it and throw it into the Thousand-Wind Ancient Road 588.
Her position becomes increasingly public: she is recognized as a Hall Master of the Salvation Hall of Fame and a Navigator of the surviving Civilization. She refuses an attempt to bind her to the Dark Abyss Calamity Dynasty through a Fourth Princess title, while leaving cooperation possible 598.
She develops new causal defenses and tests them against stronger enemies, eventually defeating two Level Thirteen Calamities by deliberately setting and collecting a price. Her and her companions’ identities as End of the World Navigators become known to the Arena, and she immediately accepts Wei Changming’s order to attack the Calamities’ headquarters 604 605 610 616 619 620.
Calamities’ Lair and Ninth-Rank Advancement
Dropped into the Calamities’ lair, Ye Buyu encounters a chained War, who offers to hide her identity in exchange for freedom. She refuses and is drawn into the inhabitants’ internal disputes and battles 633.
Still Eighth Tier, she uses stored causal effects and Compulsory Cost against the Bird-Head Calamity. Continued combat provides the opportunity for her next breakthrough 635.
She advances to Ninth Rank while confronting Withering and demonstrates deeper control of cause and effect by making an old wound reappear. Her teammates and Salvation Hall of Fame allies later arrive, relieving her isolation 637 644.
Reflecting on the Hall’s origins, she sees herself less as a commanding founder than as the person who connected survivors carrying conviction and hope, while privately worrying whether she can fulfill the future they believe in 652.
After Sinful Karma’s defeat, she sees star-filled eyes take something from its soul and hears that they await an ending and beginning she will provide. She suspects that the eyes may belong to a god but does not yet understand what was taken or why they are waiting for her 663.
The Lost Era and Battles with Gods
Ye Buyu arrives in an unfamiliar era and a world dominated by Fate. A returning halo and a divine procession expose her as a Divine Guest, despite her attempts to avoid entanglement 679 680.
In Eternal Life’s domain, the dense cause and effect surrounding countless souls gives her a powerful home-field advantage. She gathers these connections into her spear and fights the god directly, condemning its enslavement of living beings. The accumulated causal power raises her strength to a god’s level 705 711 713 715.
The Six later fight three gods in a prolonged struggle. Lou Guanshan assumes much of the healing burden through life origin while Ye Buyu refines their remaining Fate Fragments and urges the gods to surrender before the team strips away more of their power 741.
As the Six form their Godheads, Ye Buyu witnesses Gestation’s love and sacrifice and reaches a more peaceful understanding of her own birth. They then send their Origin Power through time in Mu Bingge’s black box, discovering that they themselves caused the explosion that began her journey 749.
New Universe and Reawakening
In the new universe, Ye Buyu initially appears as a child and attempts to hide her awareness while listening to Mu Bingge’s account. She sends a red thread through the universe, restores her fragmented memories and dormant power, and realizes that she has concealed something from her teammates 777.
When they move to confront her, she escapes through Fang Zhixin’s Dimensional Blade 777.
She later explains that witnesses to the Past Universe’s destruction and the new universe’s birth became external anchors, preserving a possibility for her existence. Their discovery of that connection and contribution of power awakened her earlier than she anticipated 778.
