Ability users were ranked from level one to level ten, with King Rank above level ten.

In his previous life, both Dharma King and Flame Empress had peaked at King Rank.

After absorbing Dharma King's crystal, Chen Luo had advanced beyond King Rank to an entirely different tier.

But what good had that done? There was nothing to eat, nothing to drink, nothing to do for fun, and no one to keep him company.

Living was fucking pointless. He might as well have died and been done with it.

Chen Luo had mastered his ability, but Dharma King, who had only just awakened his, wasn't used to the power inside him and still couldn't control it.

Chen Luo instructed him, "Try concentrating the power inside you in your throat. Charge it up, then spit it in the direction you want to shoot."

Chen Luo had thought Dharma King would need quite a while to get used to his ability. To his surprise, the very next second, Dharma King tried following his instructions and spat a bolt of purple lightning from his mouth.

His target was the flat-screen TV on the opposite wall.

The TV screen instantly shattered.

Chen Luo was delighted. What a good dog.

Time to head to the cold-storage warehouse and collect the supplies.

The cold-storage warehouse where Chen Luo had stockpiled his meat was one of the two largest in the Divine Capital, holding a hundred thousand tons. His supplies weren't the only things stored there.

After opening the iron gate and getting into the car, Chen Luo drove off with Dharma King, the wheels rolling over the teenage zombie girl's body.

This was a villa complex with a hundred villas in total and only a few hundred residents between them. At this hour, more than half the owners weren't even there.

Most of the zombies were still locked inside their homes and couldn't get out. Only a handful were visible.

Whenever he encountered a zombie, Chen Luo didn't stop. He simply plowed straight through.

There was no rush to become a level-two ability user. The increase in strength wasn't that great, and for now, it was nowhere near as useful as a stun baton.

The apocalypse was short on everything except zombies.

When he reached the exit, Chen Luo spotted the upscale supermarket by the gate, which covered more than two hundred square meters. After a brief hesitation, he stopped.

A thief never left empty-handed-no, wait, he was just helping himself along the way.

The supermarket was fairly large and had plenty of supplies. Spending a few minutes clearing it out would be worthwhile.

Looking through the car window, Chen Luo could already see several zombies inside.

For a supermarket this size, having several employees was perfectly normal, not to mention the customers.

There were more than just one or two zombies.

With his stun batons, Chen Luo wasn't afraid at all, but there was a slight chance he could get injured.

With how obsessively cautious Chen Luo was, would he take that kind of risk?

What had he bought that expensive armor for?

Chen Luo immediately put on his armor. It was a little troublesome, but safety came first.

Chen Luo looked himself over in satisfaction. Now he was all set.

With Dharma King in tow, Chen Luo strode over without a care.

Chen Luo told Dharma King, "Attack if you can. Be careful, don't fight them head-on. Keep moving and lead them around."

He didn't need Dharma King's help, but Chen Luo wanted to give him some practice.

Amazingly, Dharma King nodded like a human.

As Chen Luo approached the supermarket, he saw four zombies clutching two people and gnawing on them. The two were, of course, long dead. Little remained of their bodies, and blood covered the floor.

Once zombies had eaten their fill, they would no longer ignore survivors who approached.

All four zombies lunged toward Chen Luo, one after another.

Chen Luo pulled out two stun batons, one in each hand. Two zombies immediately fell to the ground, convulsing.

Dharma King barked at the two behind them and spat a bolt of lightning.

He missed...

Dharma King was dumbfounded.

Chen Luo chuckled. "Dharma King, lure them away."

It was completely unnecessary. Chen Luo was simply practicing working together with Dharma King.

At his words, Dharma King immediately trotted off to lure the zombies away. The zombies weren't fast-they were considerably slower than ordinary people, let alone the lightning-fast Dharma King.

Dharma King could easily have shaken off the two zombies, but he kept their attention firmly fixed on him so Chen Luo could get away from them.

At the same time, Dharma King didn't forget to gather lightning and attack them.

Chen Luo walked straight into the supermarket, ignoring the gruesome corpses on the floor. The rows of high-end cigarettes and liquor at the checkout counter caught his attention first.

Even the cheapest cigarettes cost thirty a pack. There wasn't a single budget brand.

Chen Luo swept his hand over them one after another, and before long, they were all in his ability space.

Next, he went to the fruit section and cleared out all the premium apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, cantaloupes, and everything else.

He left nothing behind in the snack, beverage, or grain and cooking oil sections either.

Within a few minutes, practically everything on the shelves was gone.

A growl rang out. Following the sound, Chen Luo found the supermarket's storage area.

A zombie who looked like the supermarket manager was locked inside. There was a desk in the storage area, presumably his.

After easily electrocuting him to death, Chen Luo didn't bother checking what was in the stacks of boxes. He simply stuffed them all into his ability space.

With that much space, he could do whatever he pleased.

Chen Luo extracted the manager zombie's crystal, then went outside to collect the crystals from the two zombies he had electrocuted earlier.

Of the two zombies Dharma King had been leading around, he had electrocuted one. One still remained.

It wasn't that Dharma King didn't want to kill it. Having only just awakened his ability, he had run out of mana and couldn't produce any more lightning.

Dharma King was dejected. Why could Master deal with zombies so easily, while I couldn't?

Chen Luo smiled and patted his head. "You've already done great. Give it some time, and you'll be the coolest dog around."

Dharma King's eyes sparkled. Really?

Even without absorbing crystals, an ability's power would slowly grow, just nowhere near as quickly as it would by absorbing them.

Dharma King's antics had inadvertently attracted two security guard zombies, which Chen Luo dispatched in a few quick moves.

With six zombie crystals in hand, Chen Luo drove out of the villa complex.

Once outside, Chen Luo avoided the main roads, planning to take a quieter route to the cold-storage warehouse.

Zombies spotted Chen Luo from time to time, but at their speed, all they could do was eat his exhaust.

He also occasionally saw drivers suddenly turn into zombies, their out-of-control vehicles crashing everywhere.

Within mere minutes of the apocalypse's outbreak, the global population had fallen by eighty percent. All order and production had ground to a halt.

The traffic lights that still had power continued to operate. Only an idiot would still wait at a red light now.

Chen Luo drove straight through the red light.

A speeding white sedan came up from behind and pulled alongside Chen Luo. A young man leaned out of the window and asked anxiously.

"Hey, man, do you know what's happening? I can't get through to the police."

Chen Luo kept his eyes straight ahead without looking at him and said calmly, "It's obvious. The apocalypse has started."

Chen Luo accelerated, leaving the young man behind.

Unwilling to give up, the young man called, "Hey, man, let's stick together! We can watch each other's backs!"

Chen Luo's voice drifted back, sounding cold. "No need."
