Xu Ye stepped through his front door.
The last rays of the setting sun fell across the gray floor tiles, lending the place a little warmth.
The table, the chairs, the television, even the clumps of tissue on the floor... nothing had changed.
According to his heart's simulation, he should be safe.
Only then did he turn his gaze to the center of the coffee table-a scarlet book that looked as though it had just been dredged out of fresh blood.
The Book of Treasures.
Beneath those four large characters was another line of gold-stamped lettering-never turn to the last page.
"Hmm... if it's called the Book of Treasures, and it warns you not to turn to the last page, isn't that basically announcing there's something on the last page? Isn't it baiting people into turning to it?"
Xu Ye grumbled inwardly.
He put on rubber gloves, sat on the sofa, and tried to pick up the book, only to discover that it wouldn't budge.
"Can I only open it on the coffee table?"
Holding his curiosity in check, he opened the cover. Alice's head emerged from between his brows.
With Heavenly Dao Distortion, every rule was a complete mess. Xu Ye had no idea what would happen next.
Rustle-
The cover opened.
Dense scarlet writing met his eyes. More precisely, it resembled some sort of ritual symbols, as though a vast, incomprehensible nightmare were unfolding before him.
Xu Ye tried turning two pages at once, but they wouldn't move.
He also tried turning straight to the last page, with no success.
"Do I have to turn them one at a time?"
Rustle-
He turned another page.
Suddenly, the television switched on.
"I didn't touch the remote, did I?" Xu Ye rubbed his chin. The television screen was pitch-black.
Interesting.
