[Find supplies: completed]

The quest notification appeared. This was the supply crate he had been looking for.

It seemed pretty simple.

Silently willing it to be stored away, Ye Fei watched the supply crate appear in his Inventory. Satisfied, he ran back to the door of his little house before taking out the crate and choosing to open it.

[Open the supply crate: completed] [Supply crate opened: Poor-Quality Timber, nails, hammer]

The contents of the supply crate were nothing more than a pile of long pieces of lumber.

Ye Fei picked them up and examined them. Drawing on his childhood experience doing farm work back home, he put everything into his Inventory and began looking for a place to build a fence.

"?"

About two meters outside the house, Ye Fei hammered the first piece of lumber into the ground. A small yellow question mark appeared above it.

Ye Fei reached out and touched it. The little question mark suddenly dispersed, and several lines appeared around the plank, showing the directions in which he could build the fence, its extent, and how much lumber each section would require.

"That really is convenient."

Ye Fei guessed this was meant to show players who had never done this sort of work how to build a fence.

After studying the lines, he chose one that looked good to him, closed the prompt, and began hammering in the lumber alongside it.

Piece by piece, with one post every meter, he made a wide circuit around the house.

Then he went back and took out the box of nails. He could not tell how many were inside, but they never seemed to run out.

He nailed planks onto the upright wooden posts. After more than an hour, Ye Fei finally finished building the fence.

It was a little crude, and the nails were crooked, but the quest evaluation did not seem to consider that a problem.

[Beginner quest: 1. Newly arrived in another world, you were randomly dropped onto Snow Mountain... Build a fence that provides protection; quest requirements: find supplies (completed), open the supply crate (completed), use tools and materials (completed), build a Basic Fence (completed)] [Quest completed. Rewards: 1 beginner survival equipment set of your choice, 1 survival handbook, 1 basic survival supply crate]

With the quest completed, the rewards were delivered straight to his Inventory.

When he took out the survival handbook, it turned out to be a small notebook. It recorded the exact times Ye Fei had completed his earlier tasks and what he had received. It was a survival log.

He could turn the pages to read it or search by time, tags, and items he specified himself. But since there was only one page so far, he had no use for the search function yet.

[Player has successfully established a basic safe zone. Chat channel unlocked. Trading channel unlocked.]

A notification appeared. Seeing the two new channels on the virtual panel, Ye Fei naturally opened them to take a look.

The trading channel was still empty. There was nothing there yet, perhaps because everyone was poor.

When he opened the chat channel, new messages were already scrolling past rapidly.

Greetings, questions about where this place was, complaints and furious curses, and desperate cries for missing family members crowded the screen...

Everyone in the chat interface was identified by a number.

Ye Fei looked them over. Every number had "Snow Mountain" before it. Only after checking the options beside the chat did he realize this was a regional channel.

He also spotted a friends interface and a world channel marked as not yet unlocked.

[World channel locked. Unlock requirements: player combat power must reach 100; costs 10,000 Survival Points.]

When Ye Fei silently willed the interface to switch to the world channel, its unlock requirements appeared immediately.

It required both strength and points. Those points were essentially the currency used for trading in this survival world.

Ye Fei had neither.

After examining these new features, Ye Fei sat down inside the house and opened the reward in his hands.

[Beginner survival equipment of your choice: Five-Piece Warmth Set, five-piece cooling clothing set, five-piece moisture-resistant clothing set, five-piece antibacterial clothing set...]

There were plenty of options. He just had to consider where he was and choose suitable equipment for his first days.

Ye Fei did not rush to choose. Instead, he walked to the entrance and opened the door again to test the conditions.

This time, the moment he opened the door, the bone-chilling wind made him shiver.

"Sure enough, the beginner protection period is over..."

He rather missed how it had felt to walk through the snow in his flip-flops earlier, but he also knew that losing beginner protection sooner was not necessarily a bad thing.

He went back inside and decisively chose the Five-Piece Warmth Set. The little box disappeared, and five pieces of equipment scattered across the floor.

[Beginner warm top: defense +1, warmth +5] [Beginner warm pants: defense +1, warmth +5] [Beginner warm hat: warmth +5] [Beginner warm boots: speed +1, warmth +5] [Beginner warm underwear: warmth +5]

"..."

Ye Fei stared at the final item, a pair of boxer briefs. Did those need their own warmth bonus too?

He understood keeping his head, feet, and body warm.

But why give him a separate pair of underwear? Were they afraid he would freeze his...?

His inward grumbling did not slow him down. Ye Fei quickly stripped off his original clothes, which offered little warmth, and changed into the Five-Piece Warmth Set.

Once he put on the Five-Piece Warmth Set, it consisted of a padded coat, padded pants, padded boots, and a hat that covered his head and ears, leaving only his face exposed.

As for the padded underwear...

He wore those underneath and did not make a point of admiring them.

With the warm clothing on, Ye Fei checked the time. There was still more than an hour before dark, so he decided to go outside and try it out.

"Still a little chilly, but at least I won't freeze now."

Standing in his simple yard, Ye Fei moved around a little, feeling the chilly wind still whipping past him. He stamped his feet, then went back inside.

Though he was no longer in danger of freezing, he was still surrounded by snow. He certainly was not going to feel warm out there.

He shut the door to block out the cold wind, then settled comfortably onto the floor to open another crate.

There was still a basic survival supply crate in his Inventory.

He guessed it probably contained food.

[Basic survival supply crate opened: bread +10, water +10, Survival Points +10, basic house energy reserve +100, household items of your choice +2]

After storing the bread and water, Ye Fei looked at the Survival Points credited directly to him, then checked the trading channel again. People had already posted listings, both buying and selling...

Some were selling beginner equipment, while others were buying it...

Surely they hadn't actually chosen the wrong sets and ended up with nothing to wear?

He could not be sure, and he did not ask. He still had a pile of things of his own to investigate.

He did not really understand what the basic house energy reserve was, but he found a house interface beside his Personal Panel.
