Background / History
Ye Fei lost his parents in an accident while young. They left him a newly built rural house, which he sold to finance his education. His relatives resented receiving none of the proceeds, and he became estranged from them 1 3.
He attended Q University’s school of design, then took a low-paying office job. On his twenty-fifth birthday, his aunt told him not to return to his hometown, his employer declined to renew his contract, and an elderly woman’s accusation cost him an afternoon at the police station and 300 yuan despite surveillance footage supporting his account. That evening, former college friends got him drunk during his birthday celebration 1 19.
He awoke in what appeared to be his apartment, surrounded by a frozen wilderness. Recognizing the new world activated the survival game and unlocked his Personal Panel, Inventory, and Map. He later discovered that the apartment’s furnishings were simulated copies: unlike items acquired in the survival world, they could not be carried outside 1 7.
After losing his family, he lived at school throughout high school. His grades consistently ranked first within the school, although not among the highest nationwide. Teachers and the principal encouraged him to pursue exceptional examination results as a way to overcome his circumstances. He instead completed school with steady results and selected a university farther from home 510.
His later encounter with Lin Che reveals that some of his apparent bad luck had been deliberately engineered. According to Lin Che, his younger half brother Lin Mu targeted Ye Fei after being beaten by him, interfering with internship evaluations, employment, and even his living conditions. Lin Mu later admits to causing trouble, although he denies intending genuine harm 251 277.
The Heart-Questioning Illusions revisit his childhood, high school years, and university life. Rather than replace his experiences with a more favorable past, Ye Fei chooses to accept the life that led him to his present home and companions 305 510 568.
Personality
Ye Fei is cautious and observant. In unfamiliar surroundings, he prefers reading conversations before participating. His first reaction to apparently exclusive quest markers is unease rather than excitement, and he routinely checks for danger before approaching unfamiliar objects or animals 3 4 7.
He treats survival practically, conserving house energy and prioritizing food, shelter, and stronger defenses. He is skeptical of players selling martial-arts instruction through promises alone, preferring improvements whose costs and effects he can verify 3 9 13 26.
His affection for his pets grows alongside a strong sense of responsibility. Initially, he refuses to invest heavily in the fox until it becomes his pet; later, he keeps promises about returning home for meals even though Qingxue cannot understand his words. After both pets nearly die hunting a crane, he recognizes that he has spoiled them and restricts how far they roam 6 20 40 45.
He has no objection to relying on companions stronger than himself. At twenty-five, he jokes that his outlook has grown old: staying safely behind his pets prevents him from becoming a burden. Nevertheless, his childhood dream of cultivation and belief in patient progress keep him working to improve 28 41 45.
He explicitly regards his pets as his present family rather than substitutes for relatives from his former world. He remains pleased that they can support the household, even when other players or Feng An point out that every pet is stronger than he is. Warnings about unreliable pet loyalty do not make him withdraw his affection 52 169 177.
His gentleness does not extend indiscriminately to strangers or enemies. He acknowledges that he is not inclined to rescue everyone he encounters, and his reputation as a cultivator who does not kill people is misleading: his companions perform much of the fighting, while he also kills with his bow and accepts Feng An’s help to prevent enemies from escaping 251 503.
He favors a peaceful, compatible household over prestige or convenience. He rejects an unsolicited marriage proposal from a God-level cultivator and insists that any additional faction member must first fit in with the existing group rather than force everyone else to accommodate them 493 503.
His acceptance of his past is a defining feature of his heart-questioning trials. Even when offered repeated opportunities to improve earlier choices, he refuses to deny the person he was or abandon the home he has gained 510.
Abilities & Skills
See Through
Reveals information about targets and objects beyond ordinary observation 4 6 7 17.
- Displays supply-search target markers that other players do not appear to see; Ye Fei suspects this advantage before identifying his talent 4 6.
- Provides creature labels, Combat Power, traits, injury states, and tamability information 5 17 21 31.
- Identifies seedlings and their planting properties 7.
- May require sustained observation: information about the injured fox appears after roughly ten seconds 5.
- Initially cannot reveal the distribution of a creature’s combat attributes, and does not automatically mark animal tracks 17.
- Develops a visible proficiency counter, recorded at 12/10,000 in its low-level form and later 9,001/10,000 before upgrading 133 382.
- Its upgrade temporarily injures his eyes and leaves him blind; his sight and general condition recover after nearly two days of sleep. The subsequent panel identifies the talent as Intermediate 410 411 417.
- Identifies racial identities beneath human appearances, allowing him to recognize Blue Feather as a butterfly rather than judge her solely by her humanoid form 506.
- Reaches Advanced by Nascent Soul First Stage and Immortal Grade after his immortal tribulation 643 695.
- At Immortal Grade, can reveal practically all players’ attributes, but does not reproduce Feng An’s ability to inspect what a player did during a past period 695.
Lingyan connects the talent to Ye Fei’s preexisting subconscious perception of truth and weaknesses. Even before entering the game, Ye Fei instinctively attacked vulnerable points when threatened, especially when anger or intoxication reduced his usual restraint 453.
Spirit-Guiding Art
His foundational cultivation technique draws spiritual energy into the body 28.
- Begins slowly, producing only one point over his first night, but improves as he learns to clear his mind 30 32.
- Cultivating directly in the open yard more than triples his intake compared with cultivating indoors during his early tests 33.
- After entering Qi Refinement First Tier, individual absorption notifications increase to two points 36.
- Flooring removes the yard’s advantage; cultivating outside the courtyard gives the same speed as sitting on its exposed ground 49.
- Activated energy orbs release spiritual energy that he must absorb rather than adding directly to his reserves 48.
- Is replaced on his panel by Crimson Flame Blazing Fire Art, although later experience with technique replacement establishes that an overwritten art can still be practiced 68 307.
Body Tempering
Initially uses spiritual energy to strengthen the body within Qi Refinement First Tier; later becomes a recurring component of his cultivation advancement 35 37 198.
- Each early attempt costs 100 spiritual energy and involves severe pain at a meridian or acupoint 37 49.
- Losing consciousness means failure; failed attempts consume the energy without refund 37 49.
- Attribute rewards vary. Documented results include Strength +1 and Spirit +1, and Comprehension +2 37 50.
- Successful tempering restores his physical condition, but does not eliminate mental exhaustion 50.
- His progress display reaches 6/12 without advancing beyond First Tier 50.
- Completes all twelve First Tier sessions before entering Second Tier, which has its own twelve-session tempering progression 68 69 102.
- Later uses comprehensive advancement to combine twelve successful temperings and a realm breakthrough. Failures can add further attempts and spiritual energy costs, as during his advance to Eighth Stage 198 202 227.
- Continues strengthening meridians and expanding his dantian during Foundation Establishment without necessarily raising his realm 440 454 476.
- Learns to use tribulation lightning for physical tempering and cultivation, gaining substantial attributes while protecting Long Heng and later enduring two Divine Tribulations together 475 476 642.
Ranged Combat
Uses bows and a repeating crossbow to fight while keeping his physically weaker body out of direct danger 21 26 46.
- Kills small prey with headshots and supports Qingxue against an adult Snow Fox from a tree 21 45.
- Practices against trapped wolves, improving bow control through repeated shots rather than relying solely on attributes 39.
- Learns that crossbow handling differs from archery, initially missing or grazing targets before landing a penetrating hit 46.
- Retains tree-climbing skills learned during childhood 21.
- Advances to a bound spirit-tool longbow, the Dragon-Phoenix Flame Spirit Bow, which can be stored within his dantian 155.
- Uses the bow’s concealed Phoenix Bird blades against flying mutated beasts during a disaster 190.
- Continues participating personally in household defense despite relying on stronger companions for much of the fighting 503.
Fence Trapping and Home Defense
Turns movable Wooden Fences into both defensive barriers and hunting tools 26 39 46.
- Repositions fences remotely to surround enemies and replace destroyed sections 26 46.
- Uses layered enclosures to restrict movement while wearing enemies down with ranged attacks 26 46.
- Wooden Fence sections have 20 Defense and 2,000 Durability 26 46.
- Successfully baits wild wolves with the bloody trail of a butchered bison 38 39.
- Earns Wolf Pack Nemesis by eliminating a night-attacking pack without injury, increasing his attacks against wolf-type creatures by 10% 26.
- Later coordinates courtyard defenses with Feng An and his furnaces. When unable to defeat the Ant King directly, he lures it through the courtyard wall into the Supreme Grade Alchemy Furnace, then repairs the damage 225.
- Supplements personal attacks with purchased explosives, using a hundred refined bombs costing 50,000 Survival Points against a disaster swarm 190.
Farming, Crafting, and Cooking
Develops a working homestead while using harvested materials to fund upgrades 10 13 27.
- Grows tomatoes, Chinese cabbage, cucumbers, and a grapevine; supports climbing vegetables with bamboo-skewer and hemp-rope trellises 11 25 42.
- Plants trees for greenery rewards and unlocks homestead temperature adjustment 10 11 33.
- Crafts house components, fences, weapons, and ammunition using learned recipes 13 21 25 45.
- Produces green-quality chicken soup with a 5% recovery-rate bonus and rabbit stew granting Speed +3 for one hour 6 20.
- Improves butchering through practice and sells animal materials, pine needles, and ice for Survival Points 27 39 50.
- Enhances three six-slot Storage Cabinets into ten-slot cabinets to accommodate household supplies 66.
- Uses a Gourmet Crafting Bench to prepare higher-quality meals, including blue-quality meat patties granting Speed +5 for three hours 66 75.
- Uses a Dedicated Disassembly Knife to process the wolves killed by his companions’ coordinated ambush 113.
- Continues cooking for his growing household and visiting friends, including the gods attending the late-story gathering 419 736.
- His completed homestead eventually includes immortal grass in its courtyard 741.
Low-Level Golden Light Shield
Purchases the defensive spell manual for 700 Survival Points and imports its contents directly into his mind 40.
- Memorizing the manual does not grant practical mastery; he still needs to learn how to control spiritual energy and cast it 40.
- Remains listed as not yet initiated in his early later panels 45 58.
- Reaches beginner level by the completion of First Tier body tempering 68.
- Improves to intermediate Golden Light Shield by Qi Refining Eighth Stage, and advanced level by Foundation Establishment Stage One 239 382.
- Can be used to block unwanted approaches as well as enemy attacks; he uses it to stop Die Wu from coming closer 505.
Advanced Cultivation Arts
- Crimson Flame Blazing Fire Art — A high-tier, gold-quality cultivation technique that replaces Spirit-Guiding Art on his panel. Initially adds 5,000 to his spiritual energy capacity and makes his cultivation and body tempering more effective 68 69 76.
- Five Elements Generation — A self-created technique arising from the fusion of his five elemental roots. Begins at gold/silver dual-colored grade and emphasizes an internally complete five-element cycle, endurance, and recovery 304 307.
- Passive absorption — After creating Five Elements Generation, can absorb some ambient spiritual energy while reclining in his Pond without sitting on the Meditation Cushion 307.
- Lightning Domain Spirit Transformation Art — A second self-comprehended cultivation art, developed alongside Five Elements Generation. Its grade rises with repeated lightning cultivation, reaching eight-gold grade by Nascent Soul and Immortal Grade after his final realm transformation 382 417 454 643 695.
- Immortal cultivation — Following his immortal tribulation, both Five Elements Generation Art and Lightning Domain Spirit Transformation Art are Immortal Grade, and his energy reserves are measured in Immortal Qi rather than spiritual energy 695.
His original world imposes a Gene Lock that makes cultivation and magic unsuitable without external changes. Ye Fei chooses to remain human rather than alter his race, and his spiritual-root development, luck, and tribulation experiences become central to overcoming those limitations 304.
Spiritual Roots and Lightning
- Initially possesses separate Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth spiritual roots 28.
- Later gains an inactive thunder root alongside improved elemental roots; by Eighth Stage, Fire is his strongest separate elemental root 239.
- Fuses the five elemental roots into a single Five-Element Spiritual Root, first displayed as 50, calculated from 25 with a 100% bonus 307.
- Develops Mutation Thunder Spiritual Root, recorded at 301 during Foundation Establishment and 1,091 upon reaching Nascent Soul 550 643.
- Uses Lightning Domain to cultivate while sharing the impact of Divine Tribulations with the Phoenix Egg and Divine Dragon Egg 642.
- Destroys his second Heart-Questioning Illusion with golden tribulation lightning 510.
- Eventually controls annihilation divine lightning naturally enough to conjure it with a casual pinch 741.
Luck Influence
Although his numerical Luck remains hidden, Ye Fei’s fortune has effects that even divine beings take seriously 340 362 416.
- Feng An attributes his release from the World Seal to good luck transferred by Ye Fei 340.
- Resentment toward Feng An appears capable of bringing him misfortune, although Ye Fei initially does not understand how to control the effect 340.
- Helps bring about Mingyao’s death by repeatedly affirming that Mingyao is an enemy threatening his household. He describes the process as reversing the approach used when wishing for Feng An’s safe return 362.
- Does not fully understand the mechanism even after successfully directing bad luck against an enemy 362.
- His extraordinary luck limits the ability of powerful acquaintances to force him into unwanted actions 416.
Artifact Refining and Alchemy Equipment
Develops artifact refining into a major source of equipment and income, using an Artifact Refining Furnace and large quantities of materials 155 300 583.
- Refines the Dragon-Phoenix Flame Spirit Bow and binds it as a spirit tool 155.
- Fuses the hide left by Feng Bai’s mother with a beginner Pet Item Storage Space, producing a neck warmer with Mother’s Protection, which increases recovery effects by 15% 147.
- Uses the Supreme Grade Alchemy Furnace as a trap for the Ant King and intends to refine it into materials 225.
- Often compensates for unconventional refining methods by supplying additional materials to fill the refining progress bar 300.
- Processes Blue Feather’s discarded butterfly wings into semifinished materials for later equipment work 511.
- Sells a semifinished product made from bitter bamboo heart and other wood materials to Lingyan for 50 million Survival Points 583.
- Uses tribulation lightning to temper divine material and the Artifact Refining Furnace’s spirit, then gathers balanced five-element materials for defensive divine gear 667.
- Ultimately completes the fused Five Elements Wind and Thunder Set 694.
Later Spells, Mobility, and Pet Skills
- Water Ripple Shield — An intermediate defensive spell listed during Foundation Establishment Sixth Stage 550.
- Five Elements · Spiritual Energy Shield — An advanced defensive spell listed by Golden Core Second Stage and retained through Nascent Soul 583 643.
- Immortal Spirit Protective Shield — Immortal-grade protective spell listed after his immortal transformation 695.
- Lightning Domain Annihilation Formation — Immortal-grade spell evolved from the lightning domain outside his body during tribulation 695.
- Five Elements Derivation Art — Immortal-grade spell evolved from his internal five elements during tribulation 695.
- Pet Command / Pet Control · Extreme Speed — Progresses from level 4 at Golden Core Second Stage to level 6 at Nascent Soul, and level 12/Immortal Grade after becoming an immortal 583 643 695.
- Sword flight — Uses his Spirit Sword as a flying platform when going out to confront invading players 538.
- Immortal bodily adjustment — Uses Immortal Qi to lengthen his hair and alter his appearance without ordinary grooming tools 725.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Five-Piece Warmth Set — Grants Warmth +25, Defense +2, and Speed +1. These bonuses do not increase personal Combat Power 6 20.
- Simple Longbow and Simple Wooden Arrows — His first crafted ranged weapons. The bow requires Strength 2, but he cannot fully draw it with his initial Strength 3; each arrow batch contains twenty bone-tipped arrows 21.
- Wind Spirit Repeating Crossbow — Purple-quality weapon received in exchange for the White Tiger Blade. Has 15% penetration, no attribute requirement, and no durability consumption of its own; firing takes approximately three seconds per shot 45 46.
- Heavy Crossbow Bolts — Single-use ammunition with 25% penetration, costing fifty basic timber per bolt. Ye Fei initially remains unsure whether bolt and crossbow penetration stack 45.
- Fine Iron Longbow — Blue-grade bow with accuracy and penetration effects. Requires Strength 6, which he reaches through body tempering 48 50.
- White Tiger Blade — Purple-grade long saber with a 10% tearing effect and Strength 10 requirement. Unable to wield it, he trades it for the repeating crossbow and bolt recipe 31 45.
- Meditation Cushion — Costs 1,000 Survival Points and slightly increases cultivation speed. Its two-meter diameter surprises him when he places it in the courtyard 50.
- Semi-Finished Crafting Station — Purchased to manufacture components for his wooden house 13.
- Inventory Expansion Ticket — Expands his original ten-slot Inventory to eleven slots; a later panel records thirteen slots 1 25 28 58.
- Blood-Replenishing and Spirit-Replenishing Pills — Carried for recovery; Blood-Replenishing Pills help him survive the adult Snow Fox fight and treat injured pets 22 24 40.
- Unhatched Egg — Obtained while clearing blizzard debris. Initially stored because its unspecified hatching requirements are unmet 33 34.
- Enhanced Storage Cabinets — Three cabinets upgraded from six to ten slots and placed beside the stove for food storage 66.
- Comfortable Double Bed — Purchased when he can afford more comfortable furnishings; his companions frequently occupy the bed while he cultivates outdoors 66 148.
- Gourmet Crafting Bench — Used to prepare food for his growing household, including blue-quality meals with temporary attribute bonuses 66 75.
- Flame Spirit Armor — Gold-quality, fire-attribute armor with a recorded energy-storage capacity of 10,000. Later placed in the Artifact Refining Furnace as part of the foundation for divine equipment 102 667.
- Dedicated Disassembly Knife — Used to turn hunted creatures into materials 113.
- Artifact Refining Furnace — Used to create and improve equipment. Its spirit and divine refining materials can be tempered with tribulation lightning 155 667.
- Dragon-Phoenix Flame Spirit Bow — Gold-quality top-tier spirit tool. Nearly as tall as Ye Fei, it has a dark-red metal body, dragon-tendon-reinforced string, and golden feather decorations. Binding initially requires 2,000 spiritual energy and grants all attributes +20%; it can shrink and remain in his dantian 155.
