[Opened Level-One Hunting Pack: Simple Longbow Crafting Recipe +1, Simple Wooden Arrow Crafting Recipe +1, beast sinew +3]

After opening the Hunting Gift Pack, Ye Fei looked at the two recipes he had received and immediately chose to learn them.

He had just been saying that no one was selling weapons, and now he had the recipes.

With the recipes in hand, could weapons be far behind?

[Craft Simple Longbow: beast sinew 3, Basic Timber 5] [Craft Simple Wooden Arrow: Basic Timber 1, beast bone 1]

Ye Fei now knew why the pack had included beast sinew.

Those three pieces of beast sinew let him craft this simple bow and arrows right from the start.

After all, not every kind of prey yielded beast sinew. As for beast bones...

When hunting wild animals, most kills would come with at least a few bones, right?

[Crafting complete] [Simple Longbow: requires strength 2, durability 100/100] [Bundle of Simple Wooden Arrows: 20/20]

The longbow was made of wood, with beast sinew for its string.

Ye Fei took it in hand and tested it. The 2 strength required for this Longbow probably meant that you needed 2 strength to draw it, because even with his current 3 strength, he couldn't draw it all the way back.

As for the wooden arrows, each crafting batch produced twenty. He took them out for a look. Their shafts were wooden, and their arrowheads were small, sharp pieces of bone.

Perhaps because there were no feathers, the back of each arrow was nothing but a bare, rounded shaft. They certainly were Simple Wooden Arrows.

"Qingxue, let's put these two pieces of rabbit meat on to stew, then head out and find more prey!"

Holding his bow and arrows, Ye Fei was delighted and eager to go out and test them.

"Yip!"

Qingxue the Little Fox yipped a few times, lying on Ye Fei's shoulder and swishing a tail almost as long as her body. Her round eyes scanned their surroundings.

With meat to eat, she was brimming with motivation too.

"A storage crate. Let's open it first."

Before finding any prey outside, Ye Fei found a white storage crate beneath a tree.

He opened it on the spot. Once again, it contained bread and water, along with three pieces of basic wood.

He stacked them in his inventory and continued searching ahead.

After lunch, the snowy landscape seemed much quieter. He searched and searched, and it was past four in the afternoon before he spotted another animal to hunt.

[Wild rabbit, combat power 3, kick]

Its trait was still kick. Ye Fei told the little fox to wait, then took out his bow and aimed from a little over ten meters away.

[Piercing Attack] [Killed wild rabbit, Survival Points +1]

Aiming at the rabbit's head, Ye Fei watched his arrow pass cleanly through it.

The Piercing Attack killed it instantly. He did not know whether that was because the rabbit was too weak or because he had gotten lucky and landed a critical hit.

Either way, he had his rabbit. He picked it up, carried it in one hand, and continued searching the area.

He had picked up several more Supply Crates that afternoon, and his inventory had no empty slots left. Since no despawn countdown had appeared for the rabbit yet, he was in no hurry to process it.

"Whine!"

Qingxue the Little Fox suddenly hopped on Ye Fei's shoulder, pointing a little paw at a dead tree nearby.

Behind that tree was a fluffy white shape, difficult to distinguish against the snow.

"A fox? A relative of yours?"

Ye Fei stopped and looked around the tree. Only after searching for a while did he confirm that a fox was hiding there.

It looked much like his own little fox, but that one was clearly an adult.

[A wild beast has targeted you]

The notification appeared suddenly, and the fox's eyes locked onto him.

Ye Fei suddenly felt rather miserable. This fox was far too dangerous.

[Snow Fox, combat power 22, Sharp Claws and Sharp Teeth, speed]

With 22 combat power and none of the Tameable designation that Qingxue the Little Fox had displayed back then, this Snow Fox was simply an enemy!

"Yip, yip, yip!"

The little fox studied the look in Ye Fei's eyes. Was that delight?

Thinking that they had the same target in mind, she immediately nodded, confirming that she wanted to go over.

"It really is your relative? You want to go over there?"

Ye Fei was dumbfounded.

Suddenly, he could no longer tell whether the little fox understood what he was asking.

Ye Fei pointed across at the other fox and waited for Little Fox's reaction.

"Yip!"

The little fox nodded again.

She wanted to go over. That big fox had something she needed.

So let's take down that big fox!

"You... go ahead."

Ye Fei let the little fox go, then looked at the dead tree beside him. To buy himself some time, he could prepare to attack from up in the tree.

As he climbed, he even stamped off all the small branches he could stand on.

It had already targeted him anyway. With its 22 combat power, he certainly could not outrun it.

And he was not about to stand obediently on the ground and wait to become that big fox's food.

As for the little fox...

Since she was so eager to go, she should be all right.

"Yip, yip, yip!"

Seeing Ye Fei climb the tree, the little fox nodded happily to show that she understood.

I'll lure the big fox over in a moment!

"Be careful..."

Ye Fei sat in the tree, confirming that the tree-climbing skills he had honed as a child, even at the risk of a beating, were still useful.

But could the little fox really handle this? He hoped the big fox would not swallow her in one bite...

Wrapping his legs around the tree, Ye Fei drew his longbow fully and stared intently in the little fox's direction.

The big fox seemed amused by the little fox's provocation. It lunged forward, then stopped.

It even opened its mouth and yawned. The sharp fangs inside were almost dazzling in the light reflected off the snow.

Raising a forepaw, the big fox extended its claws. They were much like Qingxue the Little Fox's, only longer, with a cold gleam along their slightly curved tips.

It was showing its weapons to the little fox in front of it. During that pause, Ye Fei, already growing anxious in the tree, seized the opening and loosed an arrow.

"Awooo-!"

The Wooden Arrows' heads were made of bone fragments, and bone had considerable penetrating power.

But the big fox darted forward at the crucial moment, causing the Wooden Arrows aimed at its body to wound its tail instead.

Its health bar dropped only a tiny amount. Attacked, the big fox turned to find whoever had wounded it.

Once it spotted Ye Fei in the tree, it snarled and charged toward him.

While the big fox's attention was diverted, Qingxue the Little Fox began attacking too.

But even a surprise swipe from her little claws could only inflict a little damage. Clearly, the big fox's defense was stronger than she had expected.

Its health trickled down, the attacks seemingly doing little more than scratching it. The big fox ignored the little fox, focusing entirely on Ye Fei, who had wounded it with Wooden Arrows.

It began climbing the tree. With no branches left, the big fox had to dig its claws into the bark.

But just as its claws sank into the bark, the little fox rushed up and began biting at its hind legs or its back.

Pieces of fox hide were torn away as Ye Fei continued firing wooden arrows from the tree. His shots were not particularly accurate, but they still slowed the big fox's climb up the trunk.
