"So there was a family mode, too..."
Ye Fei watched what these people were discussing, but his attention wasn't on their combat strength. Instead, he focused on how many of them mentioned their families.
He was alone. Whether by household registration or actual living arrangements, there was no one who could join him.
Then, for those families in this new world, did more people mean greater strength?
Or did more people mean greater consumption?
But none of that had much to do with Ye Fei. He had read the information and committed it to memory, and that was that.
After watching the chat channel for a while, Ye Fei began to feel sleepy.
The room was still cold, but the warm clothes he wore were just enough to keep him from freezing.
After falling asleep, Ye Fei had a dream. In it, he was a child again, running through the snow, building snowmen, rolling snowballs...
The only difference from his memories was that he was still alone in the dream. There were no childhood classmates or neighbors, nor any parents scolding him for misbehaving...
"It's morning!"
There was no clamor of the city, no noise from neighbors, no chirping insects or singing birds...
Ye Fei woke up, walked to the door, and opened it to take another look. Snow still filled his entire field of view.
The yard he had cleared yesterday was now covered in another layer of snow about ten centimeters thick.
[Today's random quest has refreshed]
A message popped up. It was a quest notification.
Ye Fei checked the log. It had refreshed at 00:00:01, but he had been asleep then. Since he had adjusted the notification volume yesterday, it hadn't woken him up.
It was now five thirty in the morning. The sun hadn't risen yet, but there was already some light, and the bottom-right corner also showed that it was daytime.
[Today's random quest: Search for supplies ×3, quest progress 0/3, completion rewards: 3 survival points, 1 Level One Survival Pack]
The random quest awarded survival points, along with this pack.
A quest like this didn't seem difficult, but everything outside was buried under thick ice and snow. Finding supply crates beneath all that snow would be...
"Pretty easy, actually."
Seeing a supply crate marker just outside the simple fence, Ye Fei suddenly felt that this quest might be a little too easy.
He went outside, dug up the supply crate, put it in his Inventory, and resumed his search.
The game had quest markers. He had actually forgotten about that.
There was one outside the fence, and after walking a dozen or so meters farther, he found another beneath a snow-covered dead tree.
Since the sun hadn't risen and he hadn't eaten breakfast, Ye Fei headed home after making sure there were no more supply crates nearby.
"Looks like this quest is pretty common."
Sitting on the floor, Ye Fei ate bread and checked the chat channel. Many people said they had received a supply-search quest, only with different quantities.
From what they said, the quests were all for supply crates. A quest for one crate awarded one survival point. The highest requirement anyone had mentioned was five, and that quest also awarded five points.
Except...
[Snow Mountain/0019-6333-1021: My quest is done! I tripped over a supply crate the moment I stepped outside. My luck must be amazing today!]
While many people were complaining about how difficult the quest was, someone popped up to say he had already finished his.
One target. He had gone outside, tripped over it, and then dug up the supply crate.
[Snow Mountain/0033-1156-6655: How can someone be that lucky? I've been out searching for over an hour and shoveled through all the snow near my house. Where the hell is this supply crate hiding?!]
Someone began complaining that supply crates were too hard to find.
After others chimed in about how difficult the crates were to find, Ye Fei took a bite of bread, washed it down with water, and only then let out a long breath.
"Surely this many people aren't all putting on an act to fool me?"
Now he wasn't so sure.
Couldn't other people see the quest target markers?
Could he be the only one who could see them, while everyone else had to rely on luck or search every inch of the ground?
Was that possible?
He had no special relationship with the system. Surely it wouldn't give him exclusive privileges!
"System, game system, GM, administrator..."
Sitting on the floor, Ye Fei felt bewildered. Not a single person had mentioned quest markers, yet he had seen them from the very beginning...
His first reaction to being different wasn't joy, but unease.
Being special wasn't necessarily a good thing!
He called out every title he could think of for the game's administrators, but received no response at all.
After waiting foolishly for a while, Ye Fei finished the last two bites of bread and drank the rest of a bottle of water. Then he set his worries aside, rubbed his hands together, and opened the crates.
Supply crates contained supplies, and he only needed to find them, not hand them in to complete the quest.
[Opened Wooden Supply Crate: Bread +2, water +5, Severely Worn Axe +1] [Opened Wooden Supply Crate: Bread +3, water +1, low-grade timber +3]
After he opened the two Wooden Supply Crates, the wooden boxes vanished.
Bread and water were standard supplies, though the quantities were random. He had also received an axe and some low-grade timber.
The low-grade timber was much better than the poor-quality timber he had received from the earlier quest's supply crate. Also, because those supplies had been quest-related, the remaining timber, nails, and hammer had all vanished after he built the fence.
The low-grade timber he now had was a white-quality item. He didn't know how to use it yet, so he put it away, picked up the Severely Worn Axe, and went outside.
[Severely Worn Axe: Strength +1, sharpness +1, remaining durability 50/100]
It was severely worn, so only half its durability remained.
But with an axe in his hand, his sense of security instantly soared.
Heading outside once more, he walked through the snow, continuing to look for markers while also examining the surrounding ice- and snow-covered dead trees.
[Dead tree: Logging resource]
After he stared at a tree for three seconds, a prompt appeared.
Sure enough, there were still prompts, and not just the floating supply crate markers. Labels like this appeared whenever he stared at an object for more than three seconds.
[Snow cover: Depth 0.7 m]
After he stared at the snow ahead for a while, a prompt still appeared. But since the snow wasn't a resource, it only showed its depth.
[Broken stone: A shattered rock]
Ye Fei dug away the snow at his feet and stared at the exposed stone for a while, receiving this result.
At least according to this game world's rules, the broken stone was useless. Still, he could pick it up and put it in his Inventory, though he couldn't think of any use for it yet.
He continued circling the area around his home. After walking for over half an hour, he spotted another supply crate marker.
The supply crate marker was a small green crate icon. But just as he was about to go over and collect it, a red exclamation mark suddenly appeared beside it, in the snow only a meter away.
