Ch. 221[Transcendence]: The Demons Descend

An Echo Demon emerged from a crater and slaughtered the teams that had investigated the impact site. The blood wolf captain realized the human team had not been fleeing other contestants, while more demons descended across the land.

  • The earth dragon led three teams to a crater, where they found a giant fleshy egg instead of an aircraft wreck.
  • An Echo Demon emerged and killed the first earth dragon with a sonic blast, then crushed a second earth dragon’s head.
  • The blood wolf captain fled with the surviving contestants, but the Echo Demon pursued them and killed nearly everyone with its sonic attacks.
  • The blood wolf captain escaped a blast with a Teleportation command and awakened his bloodline power, but the Echo Demon caught and fatally wounded him at supersonic speed.
  • As the blood wolf captain died, he realized the human team had not been fleeing other teams, and more streaks of flame fell from the sky.

Ch. 222[Transcendence]: Meeting the enemy

Ye Lin and his team rushed outside the base to meet the approaching Echo Demon, which An Ke identified as an early Third Tier enemy moving at Mach 1.2. The Echo Demon closed to five hundred meters as the team prepared to fight and Huang Liang opened fire.

  • Aroro struggled to unlock the base doors while Ye Lin and the others waited for the Echo Demon Team to arrive.
  • An Ke sensed a single fast-approaching enemy, and Ye Lin led the team outside to keep the battle away from Aroro.
  • The Echo Demon appeared as a flaming, batlike monster and unleashed powerful sound waves as it flew toward them.
  • An Ke estimated the monster was at least early Third Tier and moving at Mach 1.2, while Ye Lin assigned the team their battle roles.
  • When the Echo Demon reached five hundred meters, Huang Liang and the Hell Vanguard fired at it.

Ch. 223[Transcendence]: Vital points

Huang Liang discovered that the Echo Demon had no vital points after his shot through its head failed to stop it. Ye Lin fought the monster but was overwhelmed by its strength and speed, and the chapter ended with him trapped in its claw as it aimed another sonic attack at his head.

  • Huang Liang shot the Echo Demon in the forehead, but its wound rapidly healed and it kept charging.
  • Huang Liang warned Ye Lin and the others that the Echo Demon had no vital points.
  • Ye Lin charged the Echo Demon and slashed its neck, but it struck his shoulder and sent him flying with shattered bones.
  • The Echo Demon blasted Ye Lin with sonic waves, so Ye Lin used Blood Shadow Impact to evade and reappear behind it.
  • The Echo Demon caught Ye Lin, crushed his bones in its claw, and locked another sonic attack onto his head.

Ch. 224[Transcendence]: Free-for-all

Ye Lin, He Zheng, and An Ke struggled to kill the mid-third-tier Echo Demon, whose rapid regeneration and sonic attacks overwhelmed them. Ye Lin’s Destruction Demon Eye weakened the monster, but it broke free and left He Zheng near death while An Ke faced another attack with no strength left to escape.

  • He Zheng used Provocation to draw the Echo Demon’s attention, while An Ke froze it with Ice Soul Hell and bound its head with the Vengeful Ghost’s hair.
  • The Echo Demon’s redirected sonic wave narrowly missed He Zheng but badly injured him and An Ke as He Zheng attacked it at close range.
  • Ye Lin activated Destruction Demon Eye, burning the Echo Demon and suppressing its regeneration as An Ke’s restraints began to fail.
  • The Echo Demon broke free and smashed He Zheng into a crater, leaving him grievously wounded and near death.
  • The Echo Demon attacked An Ke, pursued her after she teleported, and left her unable to escape as she considered using Position-Swap Command at the cost of another person’s life.

Ch. 225[Transcendence]: Implosion

An Ke hesitated over whether to save herself by sacrificing Huang Liang, but Huang Liang’s shot interrupted the Echo Demon’s attack and gave Ye Lin a chance to kill it with an Energy-Concentrating Bullet. The team celebrated the victory briefly before three stronger Echo Demons arrived, and Ye Lin rushed toward the dead monster’s corpse as they faced certain death.

  • An Ke struggled to choose between swapping places with Huang Liang or Ye Lin as the Echo Demon targeted her.
  • Huang Liang shot the Echo Demon in the head, interrupting its sonic attack, and Ye Lin used Blood Shadow Impact to force an Energy-Concentrating Bullet into its mouth and detonate it.
  • The explosion hurled Ye Lin and An Ke away and destroyed the Echo Demon, whose death earned Ye Lin 100 points and a Grade B evaluation.
  • An Ke and Huang Liang celebrated the victory while Huang Liang went to treat the gravely wounded He Zheng.
  • Three stronger Echo Demons flew toward the group, and Ye Lin shouted for everyone to run before racing toward the Echo Demon’s corpse.

Ch. 226[Transcendence]: Entering the Base

Ye Lin and the others raced into the base while three Echo Demons pursued them, forcing the group to shut the outer door as Aroro picked the inner lock. Aroro opened the base entrance just as the Echo Demons melted through the outer door and reached inside.

  • Ye Lin carried He Zheng and An Ke into the passage while Aroro tried to unlock the base door.
  • Ye Lin ordered Huang Liang and An Ke to shut the outer Alloy Door and use healing items as the three Echo Demons closed in.
  • The group retreated to the inner door as the Echo Demons arrived and battered the outer door.
  • The Echo Demons used high-frequency vibrations to heat and melt through the Alloy Door, leaving the group sickened by the sound waves.
  • Aroro unlocked the base door just as the Echo Demons' clawed arms reached through the melted opening.

Ch. 227[Transcendence]: Search

Ye Lin led the survivors into the base as Echo Demons pursued them, but he feared they could break through the sealed entrance. He chose to search the Residential Area for ID Badges before seeking weapons, hoping to buy time to find a way to defeat the monsters.

  • Aroro sealed the base door behind the group as the Echo Demons chased them, and Ye Lin immediately led everyone deeper inside.
  • Huang Liang warned Lin Yu that the Echo Demons might cut through the door with their giant sword, prompting the group to flee toward the base’s other sections.
  • At a junction, Ye Lin and Huang Liang chose the Residential Area instead of the Combat Readiness Area because they expected the weapon facilities to require identification.
  • Ye Lin told An Ke that they needed ID Badges and insisted they would find some in the Residential Area.

Ch. 228[Transcendence]: Preparing to strike back

Ye Lin assessed the Echo Demons and concluded that he needed to fuse stronger abilities to survive them and the rival teams. At the Residential Area, he sent the group to search for the Officer Area and asked Aroro to undertake a dangerous task in exchange for protecting his people.

  • Ye Lin regenerated his severed arm, deduced that the base’s residents had been attacked, and considered cutting power to bypass the ID checks.
  • Ye Lin learned that Hell Echo was a Grade A ability but doubted it could defeat the three remaining Echo Demons, especially their sword-wielding leader.
  • Ye Lin entered his Interferer state and decided he needed to fuse abilities into a stronger trump card, saving one use of Hell Echo for that purpose.
  • At the Residential Area, Ye Lin ordered the group to search for the Officer Area while ignoring ordinary rooms.
  • Ye Lin stopped Aroro and asked him to take on a risky task, promising to protect Aroro’s people if they survived; Aroro agreed without fear.

Ch. 229[Transcendence]: Reactor

Ye Lin led the group toward the combat readiness area while using Aroro as bait to draw the Echo Demons away, betting that their sound-based tracking would be confused by the base and his blood trail. An Ke realized Aroro might survive by hiding in the energy area's nuclear reactor, but Huang Liang warned that the plan was not so simple.

  • He Zheng and the others found high-level ID Badges in the officers' abandoned rooms and regrouped, only to discover Aroro was missing.
  • Ye Lin refused to wait and led the group toward the combat readiness area, revealing that he had sent Aroro to the energy area as bait.
  • Ye Lin spilled blood along the passage to the energy area and explained that the Echo Demons could sense their general location but needed sound waves to pinpoint them.
  • An Ke reasoned that Aroro could hide inside the nuclear reactor and use the threat of an explosion against the Echo Demons.
  • Huang Liang gave An Ke a bitter smile and said that surviving by hiding in the reactor was not so simple.

Ch. 230[Transcendence]: Breaching the door

Ye Lin and the others raced to find weapons before the Echo Demons broke through the Alloy Door, while An Ke devised ways to mislead and delay the monsters. As the door gave way, An Ke split from Huang Liang and He Zheng to reach the control room, leaving them to search the combat readiness area with Ye Lin.

  • Ye Lin decided to enter the simulation space for two minutes while Huang Liang carried him, but An Ke hoisted him onto her back and hurried ahead with the others.
  • He Zheng warned Lin Yu that they might leave him behind unless he helped, and Lin Yu promised to use Curse against the monsters.
  • When the group reached the entrance, An Ke had Huang Liang throw grenades to mask their footsteps and mislead the Echo Demons about their direction.
  • An Ke proposed splitting up: she would take Ye Lin to the control room and use the PA system to interfere with the Echo Demons, while Huang Liang and He Zheng went to find weapons.
  • The Echo Demons' greatsword pierced the final layer of the Alloy Door, and An Ke ordered the others to go.

Ch. 231[Transcendence]: Broadcast interference

An Ke searched the command area for a way to distract the Echo Demons and found the base’s broadcast controls. As a powerful horned Echo Demon breached the Alloy Door, she triggered every alarm, leaving the group’s survival dependent on whether the noise would interfere with the monsters.

  • An Ke and Ye Lin entered the command area, where An Ke memorized an evacuation map showing a route to rejoin the others.
  • An Ke searched the command center for broadcasting equipment and spotted He Zheng on a surveillance screen.
  • An Ke saw evidence that the attackers had killed the base’s noncombatants, but continued searching for a way to make noise.
  • A horned Echo Demon breached the Alloy Door, and its presence distorted the surveillance feeds.
  • An Ke pressed every alarm button, activating broadcasts and alarms throughout the base as she watched to see whether they affected the Echo Demons.

Ch. 232[Transcendence]: A race against death

An Ke, He Zheng, Huang Liang, and Lin Yu scrambled to track and arm themselves against the Echo Demons, but their weapons offered no certainty of victory. An Ke warned that the Two-Horned Demon would reach them in about forty-five seconds, while Ye Lin had determined they would all die within 1.3 seconds even with Deathmatch activated.

  • An Ke used broadcast noise to disrupt the Echo Demons’ hearing and set up surveillance cameras to track their search.
  • He Zheng and Huang Liang searched the Armory, found two Man-Portable Air-Defense Missiles and a damaged Electromagnetic Cannon, and prepared to use them.
  • Ye Lin ordered the others to activate the Defense System and meet him at a corner in Zone C within twenty-five seconds.
  • An Ke reported that the Two-Horned Demon was moving at over four times the speed of sound and approaching the Energy Area.
  • An Ke warned that the Two-Horned Demon would find them in about forty-five seconds and that Ye Lin’s test showed they would all die within 1.3 seconds, even with Deathmatch activated.

Ch. 233[Transcendence]: The only solution

Ye Lin gathered the others to ambush an Echo Demon, hoping to kill it and Devour its ability before the Two-Horned Demon could arrive. The grenade drew the nearest Echo Demon toward their trap, and the attack was about to begin.

  • He Zheng and Huang Liang left the storeroom to join the fight after Ye Lin warned them they might all die.
  • Ye Lin explained that his simulations offered almost no chance against the Two-Horned Demon, so the team had to kill a separated Echo Demon quickly and use its ability.
  • An Ke and Ye Lin met Huang Liang and the others in the command area ahead of schedule.
  • Ye Lin ordered the team to prepare an ambush in a narrow passage, where they could focus their attacks on the first Echo Demon to arrive.
  • Huang Liang detonated the grenade, drawing the nearby Echo Demons toward the passage.
  • The nearest Echo Demon turned at the fork and charged toward the explosion.

Ch. 234[Transcendence]: Betting everything

Ye Lin realized the Echo Demon could not maintain its sonic shield while launching a sonic attack, so he risked using himself as bait to create an opening for the others. The Echo Demon pursued him with a sonic blast as he raced past it, leaving the others poised to interrupt its attack.

  • The Echo Demon charged through the Armory passage, where automated guns wounded it briefly before its sonic shield disintegrated bullets and stopped the flames.
  • Huang Liang and He Zheng realized their weapons could not pierce the shield, and He Zheng prepared to charge the demon with the missile.
  • Ye Lin deduced that the Echo Demon had to deactivate its shield to attack and ordered An Ke and Huang Liang to strike when it did.
  • Ye Lin burst into the passage and ran past the Echo Demon, which tracked him and fired a sonic blast in pursuit.

Ch. 235[Transcendence]: Greatsword

Ye Lin and the others combined their abilities and weapons to kill the Echo Demon, but Aroro warned Ye Lin that the monsters were a trap just as a magic circle appeared beneath the corpse. The group’s victory ended with an unknown threat about to emerge.

  • Ye Lin, Huang Liang, and Lin Yu attacked the Echo Demon while An Ke froze and restrained it for He Zheng and the others.
  • He Zheng fired his electromagnetic cannon, and Huang Liang and Lin Yu launched antiaircraft missiles, severely damaging the Echo Demon.
  • The Echo Demon survived the explosions and began forming another sonic attack, but Ye Lin struck it with two Blood Shadow Impacts and killed it.
  • He Zheng and the others celebrated the Echo Demon’s death as Ye Lin prepared to devour its corpse.
  • Aroro sent Ye Lin a warning that the monsters were a trap, and a magic circle appeared beneath the Echo Demon’s corpse.

Ch. 236[Transcendence]: Teleportation

Aroro disrupted the Two-Horned Demon's teleportation with a grenade, but the demon struck him down and continued its arrival. As the demon materialized beside Ye Lin, Ye Lin stayed behind to devour a corpse and gain a chance to fight, while An Ke pulled He Zheng and Huang Liang toward safety.

  • Aroro realized the Echo Demons had been traps that let the Two-Horned Demon teleport to Ye Lin.
  • Aroro threw a grenade at the Two-Horned Demon, interrupting its teleportation briefly.
  • The Two-Horned Demon attacked Aroro with metal fragments, and a collapsing cooling tower buried and burned him.
  • The Two-Horned Demon teleported to Ye Lin and began to solidify as He Zheng and Huang Liang rushed toward Ye Lin.
  • Ye Lin ordered the others to flee while he devoured the demon's corpse, and An Ke dragged He Zheng toward the lower level.
  • The Two-Horned Demon fully materialized and swung its greatsword at Ye Lin.

Ch. 237[Transcendence]: Binding Claw

Ye Lin devoured the Echo Demon and gained Binding Claw, then used it alongside Deathmatch to briefly restrain and wound the Two-Horned Demon. He fled to buy time for He Zheng and the others to find a weapon, while the monster rapidly regained its speed in pursuit.

  • Ye Lin devoured the Echo Demon and gained the Binding Claw ability, then used Blood Shadow Impact to evade the Two-Horned Demon's greatsword.
  • The Two-Horned Demon struck Ye Lin with a sonic wave, but Ye Lin activated Deathmatch, recovered, and dodged its next sword strike.
  • Ye Lin combined Mental Shock, Binding Claw, and Hell Echo to stagger and wound the Two-Horned Demon before it struck him into a wall.
  • Binding Claw slowed the demon's next sonic attack, allowing Ye Lin to escape and run away from An Ke and the others.
  • Ye Lin fled to buy time for He Zheng and the others to find a weapon, but the Two-Horned Demon rapidly regained its speed and continued chasing him.

Ch. 238[Transcendence]: Ambush

He Zheng, Huang Liang, Lin Yu, and Ye Lin’s group found the A10 hangar stocked with bombers, heavy missiles, and thermobaric bombs. Ye Lin was left trapped between the pursuing Two-Horned Demon and another Echo Demon, with no clear way to survive.

  • Lin Yu recognized that the weapon markings might identify warehouse locations, and Huang Liang deduced that the missiles were likely stored in A10 near the Repair Zone.
  • He Zheng, Huang Liang, Lin Yu, and their companion rushed to A10 and opened the hangar with He Zheng’s captain’s ID card.
  • He Zheng found six bombers, crates of aerial munitions, and an A10-MOAB thermobaric bomb in the hangar.
  • He Zheng contacted Ye Lin and told him the group had found the heavy weapons and urged him to reach A10.
  • The Two-Horned Demon caught up to Ye Lin while another Echo Demon blocked his route, leaving him unable to escape or choose a useful ability to fight both.

Ch. 239[Transcendence]: By Whose Hand

Ye Lin turned the Echo Demon’s sonic attack against the Two-Horned Demon, killing the Echo Demon and badly injuring his pursuer. With his abilities exhausted, he fled toward An Ke and the others, but the Two-Horned Demon broke through Binding Claw with blazing speed and was set to catch him before they could arrive.

  • Ye Lin used Blood Shadow Impact and Rampage to aim the Echo Demon’s sonic attack at the pursuing Two-Horned Demon.
  • Ye Lin shoved the Echo Demon into the sonic blast, then killed it with Hell Echo.
  • The Two-Horned Demon recovered from the attack and charged after Ye Lin as he fled toward An Ke and the others.
  • Ye Lin bound the Two-Horned Demon with Binding Claw, but it burned through part of the restraint and surged forward in flames.
  • Ye Lin calculated that the Two-Horned Demon would catch him in three seconds, while An Ke and the others were still a dozen seconds away.

Ch. 240[Transcendence]: Fuel-Air Explosive Bomb

An Ke swapped places with Ye Lin while carrying the Fuel-Air Explosive Bomb, trapping the Two-Horned Demon in the blast. The explosion devastated Area B, and although the group believed An Ke had escaped, her weakened voice reached Ye Lin through the communication Wristwatch.

  • He Zheng and the others rushed toward Ye Lin with the Fuel-Air Explosive Bomb, but An Ke decided to swap places with him and detonate it near the Two-Horned Demon.
  • An Ke told Ye Lin to enter a storeroom, and he realized she intended to use the Position-Swap Command to bring the bomb to him.
  • The Two-Horned Demon pursued Ye Lin into the storeroom, where An Ke and the bomb appeared in his place and the explosive detonated.
  • The blast destroyed the structures in Area B and left a vast cavity, but Ye Lin received no kill reward and suspected An Ke had been credited with the kill.
  • He Zheng worried that An Ke had died in the explosion, while Ye Lin and Huang Liang reasoned that she had probably escaped using Teleportation.
  • An Ke's strained voice came through the Wristwatch asking Ye Lin whether he had received the kill reward, and he felt a sudden chill.
