Background / History

Northern Spiritual Realm and Northern Heavens Spiritual Academy

Mu Chen began his journey in the Northern Spiritual Realm. After leaving it, finding and rescuing his mother, Qing Yanjing, became his greatest obsession. She was confined within the Futu Ancient Clan, leaving him separated from her 17 18.

At the Northern Heavens Spiritual Academy, he was powerless to prevent Luo Li from being taken away by an aged, imposing figure. He continued to remember her tears and their unwilling separation when he later learned that her clan was in danger 33.

Ancient Heavenly Palace

By the time the Ancient Heavenly Palace ruins appeared, Mu Chen belonged to the Great Luo Heavenly Domain. He defeated Xia Hong, the fourth prince of the Great Xia Dynasty, and rose to twentieth place on the Tianluo Continent’s young Strongest Expert List 14 17.

At the Northern Realm encampment, he met Futu Yijing, who sought cooperation in locating the Heavenly Emperor Mausoleum. Mandala gave Mu Chen a coordinate jade token that would let the waiting Earthly Sovereigns use his location as an anchor. Futu Yijing also told him that Qing Yanjing was well, though still separated from her family 17 18.

Mu Chen entered the palace with Nine Nether, Lin Jing, and the other selected experts through a passage Futu Yijing opened in the spatial storm. After reaching the mausoleum, he crushed Mandala’s token, enabling Futu Yijing and the Northern Realm sovereigns to enter 19.

Inside the palace, Mu Chen killed Xia Yu, the Great Xia Dynasty’s crown prince. Xia Hong subsequently summoned the Xia Emperor, who attempted to force Mu Chen to kneel. Mu Chen resisted with violet-gold light before Futu Yijing arrived and suppressed the emperor 20.

When the Demon Emperor revived, Mu Chen released Mandala’s recovered true body so she could absorb it. He later wielded the Heavenly Emperor Sword to shield Nine Nether, Lin Jing, and Xiao Xiao, suffering deep wounds from the demonic aura. Futu Yijing intercepted an attack that would otherwise have killed him 22 23.

The Heavenly Emperor recognized Mu Chen’s Immortal Golden Body and accepted his thanks for the cultivation method. Mu Chen then lent him the Heavenly Emperor Sword, whose stored power was used to annihilate the sealed Devouring Heaven Demon Emperor 27.

Although Mu Chen would otherwise have received the Heavenly Emperor’s True Spirit Empowerment and One Qi Transforms into Three Pure Ones, the emperor chose Futu Yijing instead. Mu Chen and Nine Nether were permitted to cultivate at a spiritual river, then were sent out before Futu Yijing’s Heavenly Sovereign Tribulation 28 29.

Founding the Mu Estate

After returning to Great Luo Heaven, Mu Chen questioned Futu Yijing about his mother and learned that Qing Yanjing had arranged protection for him. Recognizing that the agreement had no explicit time limit, he secured Futu Yijing’s willingness to help before determining exactly what assistance he needed for Luo Li 31 32.

Mandala informed him that the declining Luo God Clan faced relentless attacks from the Blood God Clan and that Luo Li’s upcoming inheritance ceremony would likely be contested. Futu Yijing promised to take him to the Lesser Western Heaven Realm if he reached Earthly Sovereign within half a month 33.

Mu Chen met that deadline and became master of the newly founded Mu Estate. The Northern Realm Alliance was replaced by the estate, with major powers—including Profound Heaven Hall, Myriad Saints Mountain, and Netherworld Palace—merging into it and acknowledging his leadership. Its headquarters occupied the former Great Luo Heaven, and its strength included six Lower Earthly Sovereigns and one Complete Earthly Sovereign 34.

Luo Shen Ceremony

Mu Chen traveled with six companions to the Lesser Western Heaven Realm. He arrived during the Blood God Clan’s assault on Luo Li’s inheritance ceremony, striking down an elder before the attacker could reach her. He then fought five Blood God Clan Earthly Sovereigns alone, killing one and severely injuring two while his companions initially watched from above 34 35.

After Luo Li completed her tribulation, she refused a decree appointing her Saintess of the Western Heaven Battle Hall and took Mu Chen’s hand. Mandala defended them against Elder Winter, whose appeal brought forth the Western Heaven War Emperor 36.

The War Emperor threatened to take Mu Chen and Mandala to the Battle Hall and suppress them for several years. Futu Yijing intervened as a Heavenly Sovereign and defeated him, allowing the Luo God Clan to celebrate its survival and Luo Li’s inheritance 37 38 39.

With Luo Li safe, rescuing his mother again became Mu Chen’s foremost wish. Before departing, Futu Yijing revealed that the Futu Ancient Clan possessed twenty Heavenly Sovereigns and challenged him to grow strong enough to enter the clan 39.

Appearance

Mu Chen has a youthful face and dark eyes. Futu Yijing remarks that he resembles Qing Yanjing 17 18 33.

• Facial features: Described as not extraordinarily handsome at their first meeting, though his smiling face is called handsome when he reunites with Luo Li 17 35.
• Clothing: Wears black robes when he arrives at the Luo Shen Ceremony 35.

Personality

Mu Chen retains the resolve he developed in the Northern Spiritual Realm. Though generally composed during the Ancient Heavenly Palace expedition, news of his mother or danger to Luo Li can break that composure: he questions Futu Yijing excitedly about Qing Yanjing and visibly trembles while recalling his separation from Luo Li 17 18 33.

He protects companions even when badly outmatched. Against the Demon Emperor, he stands in front of Nine Nether, Lin Jing, and Xiao Xiao and urges them to flee while he holds the Heavenly Emperor Sword. He is also perceptive in negotiation, noticing Futu Yijing’s fleeting reaction to questions about his protection agreement and using its undefined duration to obtain further help 23 24 32.

Immortal Golden Body

Mu Chen successfully cultivates the Immortal Golden Body using a method left behind by the Heavenly Emperor. The emperor notes that none of the Ancient Heavenly Palace’s many talented cultivators had achieved it during his lifetime 23 27.

• Represents a step on Mu Chen’s path toward the Eternal Undying Body, which he has not yet attained 23.

Spiritual Combat

Mu Chen demonstrates the ability to resist stronger opponents and fight multiple Earthly Sovereigns after his breakthrough 20 35.

• Pressure resistance: Emits violet-gold light to withstand the Xia Emperor’s Upper Earth Sovereign pressure without kneeling, although the ground beneath him cracks 20.
• Multiple-opponent combat: Fights five Blood God Clan Earthly Sovereigns alone, killing one and severely injuring two 35.

Sea-Covering Seal

Lu Heng senses traces of the Sea-Covering Seal on Mu Chen and concludes that Garuda has fallen at his hands 21.
