Hundred-Household Commander with two gold threads 50 Identified at this merit distinction when his birth mother receives the title of Ninth-Rank Confucian Lady.

Background / History

The protagonist transmigrates into Jia Huan, whose position as a concubine’s son leaves him suppressed by Madam Wang, mocked by the household’s young women, and estranged from his elder sister Tanchun. His predecessor had also gambled away his money, leaving Caiyun to help him from her own modest allowance 1 4.

Unlike his predecessor, the new Jia Huan resolves to establish himself through martial strength. His reward panel makes the Embroidered Uniform Guard especially attractive: apprehending criminals can strengthen him while earning official merit. He borrows eight hundred taels from Wang Xifeng to purchase a post, despite joining the Guard permanently barring him from the imperial examinations 1 3.

His father demands that he resign, but Jia Huan refuses. He also promises Concubine Zhao that his advancement will eventually earn her an imperial title—a promise fulfilled when the court invests her as a Ninth-Rank Confucian Lady 3 50.

Appearance

  • Hair: Black, described flying loose as he rides after his Innate breakthrough 21.
  • Bearing: Wang Xifeng notices that his former cringing posture and fearful eyes have been replaced by an upright stance and confidence 1.
  • Uniform: Initially wears a black Flying Fish Uniform, later exchanging it for the silver-white uniform of a Hundred-Household Commander 2 34.
  • Physical development: Indestructible Vajra Inner Art strengthens his sinews, bones, meridians, and acupoints without visibly changing his appearance 49.

Personality

Jia Huan is ambitious and openly resistant to the hierarchy that previously kept him powerless. He refuses to abandon his career merely to satisfy his father or sister, and he values practical strength over martial-world fame. Becoming a Hundred-Household Commander is initially his central goal; afterward, he pursues still greater authority so that issuing orders can replace handling every case personally 3 6 9 42.

His pursuit of criminals combines genuine outrage with self-interest. He refuses Jia Zhen’s attempt to secure Master Wu’s release because allowing a murdered woman to go without justice would burden his conscience. At the same time, he carefully protects his credit, reserves twenty percent of Wu’s confiscated wealth, and seeks cases offering substantial panel rewards 14 15 33.

He is ruthless toward enemies and quick to retaliate against intimidation. He violently establishes authority over insubordinate guards, tortures suspects, and embraces the Guard’s maxim of repaying injury a hundredfold. Nevertheless, he restrains himself when immediate revenge would destroy his future, explicitly deciding that killing Baoyu and his hostile relatives is not worth becoming a fugitive 6 15 18 43.

With people close to him, he can be generous, protective, and teasing. He repays Wang Xifeng, buys gifts for his maids, shares martial arts with his subordinates, and repeatedly flusters Qingwen through flirtation 4 10 13 20 35.
