"Cough, cough! He's dead!"

Wade was instantly vaporized by the C'tan. The Sister looked both relieved and conflicted, as though she couldn't bear to watch.

She was relieved because she finally wouldn't have to see that face again, but conflicted because, no matter what, he had been a warrior on their side, hadn't he?

Su Ming, who was frantically rubbing the Blackstone console like a game controller, turned to glance at her.

"Oh."

"Wait, didn't you say he was your cousin? Why are you so calm when he died?" The Sister stood up. The moment Wade vanished, she felt comfortable all over.

Su Ming pulled out a cigarette, put it in his mouth, and casually lit it.

"If he could die that easily, he wouldn't be Deadpool. We Mercenaries live toward death. The annihilation of the flesh is sometimes only a means, not the end."

"You're saying things I don't understand again. Fine, let's assume he isn't dead. What do we do now? Open this cage and let the C'tan out, or go inside ourselves?" The Sister frowned and swept her long hair back, looking troubled.

The two of them were still beneath the pyramid. If the undead realized their Pharaoh had been burned to ashes, they would surely launch a massive search. Then the pair would likely have to face suicidal attacks from billions of Necrons—attacks powerful enough to kill even primordial C'tan.

"I really can't figure out how to work this junk. The little tadpoles on these stone slabs won't obey me at all." Su Ming gave up on the Blackstone controls and walked toward the giant sphere. "For now, we wait and watch what it does."

"What could it possibly do?"

Su Ming flicked the cigarette between his fingers, and ash drifted down through the green light.
