"Kendra! Kendra! Can you hear me?! The Source Wall has become unstable—the cracks are getting bigger and bigger!"
J'onn shouted through the telepathic channel, while Luthor and Brainiac left everyone with nothing but the afterimages of their jump and heaps of metal debris.
The Martian Manhunter already knew the plan had failed completely. Even if Hawkgirl stayed behind now, it would serve no purpose.
"Don't distract me. I'm trying to stabilize the Source Wall," Hawkgirl said stubbornly. Naturally, she could feel violent tremors coming from her back, as though they were about to shake her bones apart. "I know this could kill me, but I might also absorb all the energy."
With every explosion, though it was only a silent burst of fire in space, she could feel the Colossi on the wall letting out delighted, maniacal laughter before being blasted to pieces.
"I was wrong," Starman said blankly. "The Totality deceived us from the very beginning."
John gave Starman a helpless look and dragged him away at top speed. He knew the immense power within Starman came from the same energy as the Totality. But for the other side to let him use that power so generously—how could that possibly be trustworthy?
And Hawkgirl—having Nth Metal armor was certainly useful, but this was all the energy of the Source Wall. Every Colossus upon it had been a cosmic-level superpowered being. It was not that he looked down on Earthlings, but even the energy of one of those Colossi was more than Hawkgirl could endure.
John had never missed Batwoman as much as he did now. Without her, the Justice League under J'onn and Superman's control was like children playing house.
"Kendra! There's no hope! We can only do our best to run and get as far away as possible."
