Arc 77The Emperor’s Bargain

Su Ming and his allies destroyed the C'tan Shard, traveled to Terra, and negotiated a sweeping bargain with the Emperor. Back home, Su Ming learned of a Shi'ar invitation, then rushed to Xavier’s School when the Phoenix Force appeared and found the X-Men dealing with Jean Grey’s disappearance.

  • Su Ming, Efferal, and Wade trapped and weakened the C'tan Shard until Cloak consumed it, then Su Ming gathered Necron technology and arranged the planet’s destruction.
  • Su Ming traveled with Efferal and Wade through the Dark Angels’ and Space Wolves’ territories before reaching Terra and entering the Golden Underground Palace.

Arc 78Hunting the Phoenix

After the Phoenix escaped with Jean Grey and devastated a Shi'ar world, Su Ming left the X-Men to pursue it across space with Daisy and Peter Quill. He followed evidence of the Phoenix’s trail toward the Shi'ar Empire and left the story suspecting it had returned to its host.

  • Su Ming confronted Professor X over Jean’s escaping Phoenix, while the Shi'ar threatened the X-Men after the Phoenix destroyed a vessel and killed sixty billion people.

Arc 79The Shi'ar Civil War

Su Ming brought Jean Grey to Chandilar and helped Lilandra oppose Vulcan and Deathbird while preventing the Phoenix from destroying the Shi'ar capital. After Vulcan was killed and the civil war shifted in Lilandra’s favor, Su Ming returned to his island, where Volstagg arrived with an answer.

  • Su Ming brought Daisy and Peter to Chandilar, drew Jean Grey out by attacking Shi'ar forces, and persuaded her to seek peace with the Phoenix rather than die.
  • After learning that Vulcan had lured Jean toward Chandilar to provoke a disaster, Su Ming agreed to help Lilandra against Deathbird and brought Charles Xavier to meet her.

Arc 80Odin’s Disappearance

Su Ming investigated Odin’s disappearance, uncovering evidence that Freyr had returned and tried to enter Odin’s Slumber while an unexplained black substance emerged in Asgard. He left the substance’s origins under investigation and traveled to Knowhere to seek information from the Collector.

  • Volstagg told Su Ming that Odin had disappeared, so Su Ming sent Volstagg back to protect Hera and left with Daisy to investigate.
  • Su Ming questioned Heimdall and learned that he had abandoned his post under Frigga’s secret order, while his observation of Laufey gave the Frost Giant an alibi.
  • At Odin’s Slumber, Su Ming found a listening device and a cut on Odin’s blanket, suggesting Odin had fought an intruder before pursuing them.
