Background / History

Shen Qiao met Xiao Lei in their first year of high school. By the beginning of university, they had been together for three years. They kept their relationship discreet while concentrating on their studies, appearing little different from ordinary friends to outsiders. Both planned to attend universities in Jiangcheng, where they hoped to enjoy dates, meals, and travel together 26 40.

After high school graduation, Xiao Lei went on a trip with her parents and was involved in a car accident. Her parents died shielding her, while she survived in a vegetative state with very little prospect of waking. Shen Qiao continued caring for her, and his family paid her medical expenses. The situation increasingly strained his relationship with his family and led to arguments 40.

At Jiangcheng University, Shen Qiao moved into Dorm 515 with Luo Ye, Li Haoyang, and Wang Dachui. He consistently told admirers and roommates that he had a girlfriend, although his roommates initially wondered whether this was merely an excuse to reject attention.
