Background / History
Tieniu has possessed extraordinary natural strength since childhood, a trait widely known in Nameless Village. Despite this physical talent, his difficulty understanding Tai Chi initially leads him to believe that he lacks the comprehension needed for immortal cultivation 25 27.
As one of Lin Bei’s disciples, he frequently carries messages between his master, Zhang Teng, and visitors. He reports Zhang Teng’s early Tai Chi success, summons him for instruction, and alerts Lin Bei to threats against the Martial Arts Grounds 1 6 7 16.
Appearance
- Tall, burly frame: His imposing build causes the Chen Family Cloth Shop’s staff to treat him as an important martial artist 50.
- Simple, honest-looking exterior: Both Lin Bei and Zhang Teng initially underestimate the perceptiveness beneath his rough appearance 25 29 37.
Personality
Tieniu is sincere toward his master and fellow disciples. He reports honestly when questioned, worries that Zhang Teng might act rashly against Cheng Lu, and agrees to keep watch while his senior brother cultivates 6 9. His admiration for Lin Bei is genuine; he remembers his master’s teachings closely and uses them to work through both cultivation problems and personal dilemmas 27 29 37.
His determination survives repeated doubts about his aptitude. Rather than asking for an effortless shortcut, he seeks a method suited to his strengths and accepts that pursuing the Dao through extreme training may still end in failure 27 34. He is also willing to challenge convention: crossing out part of Lin Bei’s written lesson frightens him as potentially disrespectful, but he does it to demonstrate his resolve 29.
His good-natured manner conceals considerable shrewdness. Lin Bei eventually recognizes him as meticulous, generous toward his own people, and decisive against enemies. His recruitment strategy exploits the Six Harmonies Martial Hall’s weakness while offering practical benefits to merchants harmed by it 48 49 50.
Abilities & Skills
Natural Strength and Physical Endurance
Born with exceptional strength and a powerful physique, Tieniu has the foundation needed for unusually demanding physical training 27 29.
- Sustains prolonged punching practice with only four hours of rest overnight, remaining in excellent condition 35.
- Uses physical exertion as the basis for opening his apertures and entering cultivation 34 35.
- His training intensity is not suitable for ordinary apprentices; Lin Bei explicitly warns Xiao Liuzi against copying him 35.
Combat Insight
Tieniu can interpret exchanges that other apprentices cannot follow. Lin Bei identifies his combat aptitude as exceptional, and later considers his talent for combat and techniques deeper than Zhang Teng’s 26 44.
- Recognizes that Zhang Teng must create an opening by attacking when none is visible 25.
- Understands that Lin Bei is feeding Zhang Teng moves during their spar and tracks the improvement in Zhang Teng’s responses 26.
- Identifies how manifested martial intent accelerates Zhang Yong’s movement 40.
- Notices that Zhang Teng’s aperture strikes are disrupting Zhang Yong’s true qi and martial intent, despite the apparent absence of injury 40.
Zhou Tian Acupoints Breathing Method
Tieniu comprehends a cultivation method that allows his body’s aperture points to absorb and release spiritual power instinctively 43 45.
- Develops from Lin Bei’s instruction to let bodily instincts sense Heaven-and-Earth Spiritual Power instead of forcing an understanding of Tai Chi’s essence 34.
- Produces ongoing cultivation through instinctive spiritual-power absorption 45.
- Is distinct from Zhang Teng’s similarly named Zhou Tian Acupoints Breath-Channeling Method, which remains within the Tai Chi Breath-Channeling framework 43.
Extreme Yang Fist Technique — Proposed
Tieniu proposes a new fist technique founded on Tai Chi but directed toward ultimate hardness and ultimate yang. Lin Bei approves its underlying principles 43 44.
- Uses softness as a supplement rather than abandoning his hard, yang-focused style 44.
- Addresses the weakness of excessive rigidity while preserving the technique’s defining character 44.
- Is a proposed martial skill; the supplied chapters do not show its completion or use in combat 44.
Nine Yang Dao Art — Proposed
Tieniu proposes storing spiritual power in aperture circuits and releasing it during battle to amplify combat strength. Lin Bei judges the idea feasible 44.
- Draws on his discovery that the body’s 365 aperture points form one major circuit and nine minor circuits 44.
- Would store spiritual power in apertures in addition to using it to temper flesh and blood 44.
- Envisions sequentially activating nine fully charged major aperture points, potentially releasing nine times the combat strength 44.
- The ninefold increase remains a theoretical outcome, not a demonstrated feat 44.
Recruitment and Commercial Strategy
Tieniu designs a development plan linking merchant recruitment with population growth 50.
- Targets businesses harmed by the weakened Six Harmonies Martial Hall 48 50.
- Offers help recovering seized shops and pursuing compensation through the Central Hall, provided sufficient evidence exists 50.
- Chooses the Chen Family Cloth Shop first because clothing is a basic need that could attract surrounding villagers 50.
- Refuses a share of recovered shops’ profits; the desired benefit is a village branch and the commerce it would generate 50.
Relationships
- Lin Bei — Master. Recognizes Tieniu’s overlooked talents, guides him toward aperture-based cultivation, and approves his proposed techniques and recruitment plans 27 29 34 44 49.
- Zhang Teng — Senior brother. Tieniu admires his progress and supports him against external threats. They exchange useful guidance: Tieniu helps him regain resolve, while Zhang Teng suggests focusing on a single aperture 9 26 37.
- Xiao Liuzi — Fellow disciple and recruitment partner. Worries about Tieniu’s training intensity, receives his explanations of combat, and accompanies him to negotiate with merchants. Their friendship includes teasing and rough treatment 35 40 47 48 50.
- Mu Qingyue — Headquarters representative. Tieniu explains the Six Harmonies dispute to her and carries her announcement of a forthcoming visit back to the village 14 15.
- Six Harmonies Martial Hall — Hostile rival organization. After its defeat, Tieniu seeks to dismantle its remaining influence by recruiting merchants from its territory 48 50.

Development of Nameless Village
- Responds to the Martial Arts Grounds’ recognition as a second-rate force by organizing recruitment in Qingyun Town 46 48.
- Proposes exploiting the Six Harmonies Martial Hall’s weakened position rather than relying only on gradual recruitment from nearby villages 48.
- Opens negotiations with the Chen Family Cloth Shop. His offer prompts the shopkeeper to summon the family head to decide on a village branch; no final agreement is shown 50.
