"Hmm?"
Ren Yu turned to look at the delicate, demure young woman. After frowning and thinking for quite a while, he finally remembered that she was Rita's maid.
He raised his chin, signaling for her to continue.
"Ah, pardon me... If you have time, the Chancellor would like to invite you to meet her in the study."
"Rita?" Ren Yu froze slightly and asked instinctively, "What does she want with me?"
As soon as he said that, Ren Yu suddenly slapped his forehead.
Under Yu'er's bewildered gaze, he shook his head.
"I nearly forgot that you can't understand what I'm saying... But you should be able to understand this, right?"
As he spoke, Ren Yu raised a hand and pointed toward the end of the corridor.
A universal gesture.
Lead the way!
But Yu'er was still baffled.
She blinked her watery eyes and stood there blankly.
After pondering for a long while, she finally asked tentatively, "You mean... you want me to take you to see Lady Rita?"
Ren Yu smiled and nodded.
"All right, then please come this way."
This time, Yu'er finally understood.
Smiling, she led Ren Yu toward the study.
Before long, the two stopped in an ancient and elegant courtyard.
Yu'er raised a hand and pointed at a fragrant pavilion before them, smiling faintly. "Please enter. Lady Rita has been waiting for you in the study for quite some time."
Creak.
Ren Yu pushed open the door.
A faint scent of ink lingered in the room.
Opposite him sat a graceful woman in a tasseled gauze dress. Her curved lashes were lowered as she held a scroll and read.
It was Rita.
But she did not seem to be the Rita he knew.
Ren Yu smiled and casually shut the door behind him.
The thing he
