I just wanted to eat my beef stew in peace

Mercer shuddered, as though something mysterious beyond explanation had entered his body.

The next moment, he saw Abomination's movements slow several times over, as if he were watching him in slow motion.

What's going on? Why is he moving so slowly? I can even make out the slightest changes in his expression!

Mercer still didn't know exactly what had happened, but he knew his cheat had arrived!

He hadn't had time to explore this "Infinite Hero Card System," but what it had given him was already enough to astonish him.

The blacklight virus was a lethal virus from a game called Prototype in his previous life.

Those infected became terrifying zombies that craved nothing but flesh and blood, or enhanced zombies with some part of their bodies transformed into weapons.

Used properly, this was an incredibly powerful virus capable of endless absorption and mutation.

In the Marvel Universe, it wouldn't be inferior to anything!

Mission issued: Blacklight's debut. Progress: 0/1000!

Feeling the terrifying enhancements the blacklight virus had brought to his body, Mercer looked at Abomination before him, and a smile slowly spread across his face.

"So you're the fucking Abomination, huh? Never died before, have you?"

Outside the building.

The special forces soldiers stood guard outside with rifles and heavy weapons. Though they had set up a police cordon, people still gathered beyond it to watch, filming with their phones.

"That damned bastard! Rumlow, isn't the tranquilizer specialist here yet?"

Dressed in Captain America's combat uniform, Carter impatiently pressed the man beside her. She had only been out for a short while when she heard that Abomination had come running into this area.

And there were plenty of civilians here. This was bad.

There was no way to kill this monster with bullets alone.

They could only sedate him with tranquilizer rounds specially developed by S.H.I.E.L.D., calming him down until he returned to his normal human state.

But the specialist carrying the tranquilizer rounds hadn't arrived yet. All they could do was keep up suppressive fire and limit the area in which he could cause havoc.

Suddenly, a trace of horror appeared on Carter's face. She saw that the lights were on in her apartment, and a huge hole had been smashed through it.

She had switched the lights off before leaving. That meant Mercer had gone inside!

Now that a massive hole had been smashed through the apartment, wouldn't the person inside be... Her heart went cold. "Alex!"

"Seal off the next two blocks beyond this area! Rumlow, take your men and stand guard! Everyone else, evacuate the civilians!"

Despite her anxiety, Carter quickly issued a series of orders.

"Yes, ma'am!"

At her words, the S.H.I.E.L.D. special forces soldiers immediately sprang into action to carry out her orders.

Carter took the shield off her back and was about to head upstairs to save him when a figure flew out of the upper floor and slammed into the building opposite.

"What...?"

Before anyone could understand what had happened, they saw someone slowly emerge from the small building with half its side smashed open.

He was a little over six feet tall and wore a black hood, leaving the onlookers unable to make out his face.

"Alex!"

Only Carter stared at the man before her with shock in her eyes. She recognized the young man as Mercer at a glance. He was actually unharmed!

Could he have done that?

Looking at Abomination, who had been sent flying, Carter found that absurd thought rising in her mind.

She could hardly believe it. As far as she remembered, Mercer had always been a young man who wasn't particularly strong.

Sending Abomination flying? How was that possible? Just then, Mercer spoke.

"Seriously, this is so damn annoying. Is eating a bowl of beef stew really that hard?"

His voice sounded young but not childish as it reached the stunned crowd. Everyone stared blankly at Mercer as he walked out.

"I read a novel once where some guy went to destroy a village and interrupted the main character's noodles. He got his ass beaten. You want to give that a try too?"

Abomination twisted his agonizingly painful arm and neck, his pupils, larger than Mercer's head, contracting.

He hadn't had time to react at all. By the time he came to his senses, he had already been sent flying.

Sent flying by an ordinary human? Was that possible?

Impossible!

"You... who are you?"

Abomination spoke in a human voice. In truth, he was human, merely mutated.

"I'm just a quiet young guy passing through who wants some beef stew. And let me tell you, you're in deep fucking trouble."

A quiet young guy? That description left everyone present speechless. Was this something a quiet young guy could do?

He loosened up his muscles and joints. Mercer hadn't yet been able to examine his newly acquired system, but the blacklight virus had vastly enhanced his body.

Otherwise, he couldn't possibly have thrown the several-ton Abomination straight out of that building. Now he needed to deal with the situation in front of him first.

Flexing his fingers and feeling the seemingly endless power inside him, Mercer grinned. The blacklight virus was even more powerful than he had imagined.

"Heh, you'll make the perfect test subject!"

Bending his knees into a slight crouch, Mercer pushed off lightly and shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.

Whoosh!

The onlookers heard only a sharp rush of air before Mercer crossed more than ten meters and appeared before Abomination in the blink of an eye.

He unleashed a vicious punch. His normal-sized fist struck Abomination's lower jaw, sending the monster, who dwarfed him many times over, flying straight into the sky.

People could even see a sonic boom ring form from that punch. Just how fast had his fist been moving?

"So strong!"

Of everyone there, only Carter blurted it out.

Aside from that mutated freak, she was the only enhanced human present. Only she truly understood how absurdly heavy he was.

Punch him into the sky? That sounded like a dream to her, yet Mercer had actually done it.

Has he been hiding his strength all along?

Rubbing her eyes, Carter wondered whether she was still half-asleep, but no one was available to give her an answer.

Mercer moved again. He bent his knees and leaped more than ten meters into the air, appearing before Abomination once more in the blink of an eye.

Clenching both fists, he hammered them into Abomination like a rainstorm.

The intense pain coursing through his body left Abomination dazed. His opponent's attacks were tremendously powerful, and they came in a relentless barrage.

They had actually broken through his defenses!

One or two punches like that would be one thing, but how can he throw dozens, even hundreds, with that same power? Even I couldn't hit that hard with everything I've got!

Abomination roared inwardly. Despite his enhanced body, he still couldn't make out Mercer's movements.

He had barely started raising his hand to block a punch when more than a dozen bursts of agony struck his abdomen. The punch Abomination had seen was already an afterimage.

His enormous size also limited his speed, preventing him from striking quickly.

Mercer, with his normal human build, had no such burden. Each of his punches slammed into Abomination like a speeding train, producing distinct, muffled thuds that made their tremendous force plain.

The two fell quickly, but Mercer's fists were faster still. The muffled thuds of his blows came at an unnatural pace.

In just a few seconds, he threw over a hundred punches!

Every punch struck flesh, every punch packed a wallop. It was unbelievable!

Gradually, Abomination realized something was wrong.
