| Super-Soldier enhancement — before the main story | 1 | Successfully received the Super-Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers, becoming this world’s Captain America. No subsequent power upgrade is documented in the provided chapters. |
Background / History
Carter fought Hydra seventy years before the main story. On the day she was frozen, she led a team into a Hydra base and witnessed weapons powered by the Tesseract reduce people to nothingness. She also saw Hydra’s leader disappear under the Tesseract’s radiance 10 38.
She survived being frozen in ice and returned in the present era, believing Hydra had been destroyed. She regarded Steve Rogers as a comrade who had died at Hydra’s hands and kept his photograph in a pocket watch. Discovering that Hydra still existed renewed her determination to avenge him 8 10 14.
By her first appearance, Carter works for S.H.I.E.L.D. and lives in the same apartment building as Mercer. She has already helped him repeatedly, paying his overdue rent and allowing him to eat at her home while she is away on missions 1.
Appearance
- Build and complexion: Tall, white, and described as strikingly attractive, with a shapely figure 1 8.
- Hair and eyes: Blonde hair and blue eyes 1 8.
- Combat attire: Captain America’s combat uniform, with a shield carried on her back 2.
Personality
Carter is generous toward Mercer but expects him to take responsibility for himself. After paying his rent, she urges him to find work; when offering him dinner, she asks him to wash the dishes afterward. Her explanation for her kindness is unusually personal: his eyes resemble those of someone important to her 1.
She remains decisive under pressure. Even while fearing Mercer has been killed in her damaged apartment, she immediately organizes civilian evacuation and containment. She also respects his wish to conceal his identity rather than calling him by name in front of armed soldiers 2 3.
Her loyalty does not prevent her from questioning S.H.I.E.L.D. She angrily challenges Fury over the agency’s Tesseract weapons research, having witnessed Hydra’s use of the same energy. Her grief can become equally fierce: believing Mercer dead, she attacks the Ancient One after learning of her involvement 38 48.
Abilities & Skills
Super-Soldier Physiology
The serum gives Carter an enhanced physique superior to the Winter Soldier enhancement possessed by this world’s Steve Rogers 1 16.
- She recognizes how extraordinary Mercer’s strength is when he punches Abomination into the air 2.
- Her enhancement does not let her resist the Ancient One’s telekinetic attacks or immobilizing pressure 48.
Combat Experience
Carter is a battle-hardened veteran who can react effectively to unexpected physical danger 10.
- When Lockdown ejects her without warning, she keeps calm and adjusts her posture in midair for landing 10.
- Her shield is part of her combat equipment; she prepares to use it while attempting to rescue Mercer 2.
Field Command and Threat Assessment
Carter commands S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel in the field and outranks Rumlow 2 3.
- Orders a two-block perimeter and civilian evacuation during Abomination’s attack 2.
- Locates a sniper on a high-rise rooftop approximately eight hundred meters away 8.
- Recognizes specially made bulletproof glass on a pursuing van 9.

- Participates in questioning him, though their methods fail to make him talk before Mercer intervenes 13 14.
- Accepts Fury’s orders to conceal the discovery of Hydra’s infiltration and monitor Rumlow 15.

- Captain America combat uniform — Worn during the response to Abomination 2.
- Bronze pocket watch — Contains a photograph of the thin, white-clad Steve Rogers inside its lid 14.
Relationships
- Mercer — Neighbor, beneficiary of her help, and later a trusted ally. She protects his secret identity, helps arrange his S.H.I.E.L.D. credentials, and calls on him when the Hydra operation exceeds the agency’s capabilities. She mourns his apparent death, but no romantic relationship is confirmed 1 3 15 17 37 48.
- Steve Rogers — Former comrade whom she believes Hydra killed; his photograph remains in her pocket watch. Mercer later discovers him alive as Hydra’s Winter Soldier but deliberately keeps him hidden from Carter during the ongoing conflict 14 16 17.
- Nick Fury — Trusted director and operational superior. She follows his counter-Hydra strategy while challenging his decision to develop Tesseract-powered weapons 13 15 38.
- Natasha — Trusted colleague in the Hydra investigation and Mercer’s recruitment 13 15.
- Rumlow — Field subordinate whom she later watches for suspected Hydra activity 3 15.
