Before long, Lin Fan woke from his enlightenment. Fusing two divine abilities to create a top-tier Precious Art was still beyond him.
He had only just learned to walk, yet he already wanted to run. It was simply impossible.
He was deeply skeptical of all those transmigrators who arrived with heaven-defying comprehension and immediately started inventing this and that. He certainly had no such talent.
Seeing that Lin Fan had awakened, Qing Yao prepared to leave and headed toward her bamboo cottage.
"Wait, pretty big sister! Can I ask you something?" Lin Fan called, scratching his head.
"What is it?" Qing Yao looked back, her eyes as clear as water and her skin as white as jade. Holy and unworldly, she stood radiant, like an immortal maiden treading the waves who had stepped out of a painting.
"You don't seem to like senior sister very much," Lin Fan said, puzzled.
Although Qing Yao and Yue Chan were master and disciple, they were extremely distant. Otherwise, Yue Chan would never have been jealous of him.
Or did she just prefer cute, delicate-looking boys like me as disciples?
"Because she is very much like me. That is why I dislike her." Qing Yao's answer was brief and to the point, her voice ethereal and beautiful. Radiance wreathed her body, and her bearing was as elusive as an immortal's, leaving no room for any irreverent thoughts.
"That's it?" Lin Fan froze. What a bizarre reason!
Shouldn't a master and disciple who were alike get along better? How did that turn into dislike with you? Wouldn't that mean you even hated yourself?
"Do you have any other questions?" Qing Yao's voice sounded again.
Lin Fan shook his head. He could only conclude that this pretty big sister had something wrong with her head and was a little abnormal. No wonder she was so cold that she made people shiver, giving off an air that warned strangers to stay away.
Still, Yue Chan's arrival had given him some idea of the timeline. The little milk-drinker should have been born by now. His Supreme Bone might already have been extracted, and he might have gone to Stone Village.
"Looks like I need to pick up the pace, reach the spirit transformation realm, and leave this place soon. There's the Supreme Hall's inheritance, and while I'm at it, I can ask the little milk-drinker about his experience having his bone extracted."
Days of cultivation were dull and monotonous. What mattered was persistence and hard work.
Half a month later, Lin Fan felt that his cultivation was stable, with no hidden problems, so he opened another Heavenly Passage and took the step he should have reached long ago: four Heavenly Passages.
Another two months passed. Taking advantage of Qing Yao's absence, the little girl sneaked over again. This time, however, she did not launch a sneak attack. Instead, she challenged him openly.
"I challenge you! I'm taking back everything I lost-my sword, precious medicines, precious pills... and... my undergarment! Hmph!" Yue Chan snorted, still just as haughty and unwilling to admit defeat.
Meanwhile, her aura had grown considerably, and her strength had improved a great deal. That gave her particular confidence, and she believed she could win everything back this time.
"Hehe, did you bring enough treasures this time? Otherwise, I'll beat you just like last time." The corners of Lin Fan's mouth lifted, his large eyes brimming with mischief.
Yue Chan shuddered involuntarily and reached behind herself, recalling something unpleasant. Still, she said firmly, "Of course I did. But this time, you'll be the one who loses."
She patted the new Heaven and Earth Bag at her waist, then planted her hands on her slender hips to show that she was quite wealthy now.
Whoosh!
Then Yue Chan swept her little hand through the air. A rain of light swirled through the void as Heavenly Passages appeared around her one after another, dazzling and intimidating.
Unlike last time, Yue Chan now had one more Heavenly Passage. She had reached the middle stage of the cave heaven realm, with four Heavenly Passages in total.
That was also why she had the confidence to come here and challenge him.
Ordinarily, opening a single Heavenly Passage took at least half a year, and some people failed to advance even after several years. Yet Yue Chan had opened another in just three or four months. Her talent was truly extraordinary.
But she did not believe the little brat could advance faster than her and reach four Heavenly Passages so soon after opening his third. Thus, she was brimming with confidence.
Very soon, however, reality slapped her in the face. Lin Fan had four Heavenly Passages too. They manifested behind him like volcanic vents, their vital essence surging, brilliant and resplendent.
"Surprised? Didn't see that coming, did you?" Lin Fan laughed, immensely pleased as he watched her expression turn as though she had eaten shit.
But Yue Chan quickly composed herself. Her eyes fluttered, and she curled her lips. "So what? Even if you have four Heavenly Passages too, who wins and who loses is still up in the air!"
With that, Yue Chan assumed an attacking stance. Her powerful aura stirred the wind and clouds, sending sand and stones flying as dust billowed into the air.
"Hold on," Lin Fan suddenly called.
"What, are you scared and ready to surrender? Then let me hear you call me senior sister. If I'm in a good mood, I might just let you off." Yue Chan was smug, her lovely little face full of anticipation and excitement.
Lin Fan's face darkened. He really had no idea where someone he had already defeated found the confidence to say such things. Was she suffering from delusions of grandeur?
"I meant we should fight somewhere else. If we wreck this place again, I'm afraid pretty big sister will beat us both to death."
"Oh, so that's what you meant." Yue Chan gave an embarrassed smile and followed Lin Fan to the mountain out back, where he had previously trained in the blood moving realm.
The place was wide open and utterly barren, with broken stones scattered everywhere. Its scenery was worlds apart from the Purple Bamboo Forest, the complete opposite. There was no need to worry about damaging anything here.
The battle erupted at the slightest spark. Streams of divine light burst forth, sparks flew, and the ground exploded, sending shattered stones shooting through a blaze of radiance.
The fight was fierce. They exchanged over a hundred moves, trading blows back and forth, drenched in sweat and panting for breath. Sparks scattered in every direction, yet neither had gained the victory.
Yue Chan was far stronger than before. Both her strength and her technique had improved greatly, as though she had specifically studied Lin Fan.
Whenever Lin Fan showed any intention of closing in, Yue Chan swiftly pulled away, denying him a chance to fight at close range. She knew how to play to her strengths and avoid her weaknesses.
"My body isn't as strong as yours, so I'll defeat you with Precious Arts!" Yue Chan said happily, gradually seizing the initiative and no longer looking so battered.
"Not bad. You've improved!" Lin Fan smiled, responding calmly.
But he had to admit that he felt the pressure. His inability to use offensive Precious Arts was a weakness.
If his opponent were an enemy, and neither knew the other's capabilities, he could catch them by surprise and kill them with a single strike.
But sparring with someone familiar was more troublesome. The same method might work once or twice, but once the other person became wary, pulling it off again would be difficult.
Lin Fan's expression shifted slightly, but he did not panic. He was patient and continued searching for a chance to win. He struck forward with his palm, making the void thunder.
Boom!
They collided again. A savage aura raged, and runes blossomed like burning flames. Blinding light illuminated the entire valley, as though this instant had become eternal.
Yue Chan was no ordinary opponent. She unleashed the Heavenly Transformation Divine Ability, channeling the force beneath her feet and along the veins of the earth. It blasted apart a rocky hill fifty or sixty feet across in the distance, reducing it to dust.
The sight was terrifying, leaving Yue Chan shaken. Had she not used her divine ability to redirect the force and instead taken the blow head-on, the consequences would have been unthinkable.
"Peacock Precious Art!"
The next moment, Yue Chan formed a hand seal. Runes filled the void, and a peacock shimmering with Five-Colored Divine Light appeared. Its body was as large as a small hill, an astonishing sight.
Suddenly, the Five-Colored Peacock let out a piercing cry that split clouds and shattered stone. Five-Colored Divine Light erupted like surging waves, flooding forward with tremendous might to suppress Lin Fan.
So powerful! Has she learned another Precious Art? Lin Fan was deeply shocked.
This time, however, although the Precious Art Yue Chan unleashed was less powerful than before, she used it with greater ease. Her face did not turn pale, nor did she have to force it out.
"Looks like she really has wised up. She isn't using divine abilities beyond her limits," he murmured.
