Lin Fan looked at Yue Chan in surprise. He had never expected this girl to have such a steadfast Dao heart and such a yearning for immortality from childhood.
In particular, a mark appeared between her brows, blazing with rosy radiance. Sacred and mysterious, it exuded an indescribable aura.
"Is her past life influencing this one?" Lin Fan muttered.
Yue Chan had countless threads of connection to True Immortal Azure Moon. Some said she was her reincarnation; others said she was merely a similar flower.
But regardless, that True Immortal had indeed influenced Yue Chan in this life. Otherwise, why would her obsession with transcendence have been so deep since childhood? It was far too unusual.
"What are you muttering about?" Yue Chan wrinkled her delicate nose, her flowing hair carrying a faint fragrance.
"Nothing. You're probably incomplete, aren't you?" Lin Fan asked. He remembered that Yue Chan had practiced the Primary-Secondary Body Method at a very young age in the original story, and the one in the Upper Realm was only her primary body. He wanted to confirm it.
Yue Chan was surprised. "You already know?"
"A little." Lin Fan nodded. Qing Yao had told him about this method, but he had not learned it.
The reason was simple. He knew perfectly well that Kunpeng Son had used this method to screw over the people of the Immortal Palace. If he still learned it, wouldn't that make him a fucking idiot?
The Primary-Secondary Body Method was incomplete, causing both bodies to develop their own consciousness and ideas. It would have been stranger if nothing went wrong.
Yue Chan was a living example. The Immortal Palace had used her as a test subject, yet this silly girl thought it was wonderful and had nearly let the whole thing spiral out of control.
"That makes sense. You're also an heir of our sect, so naturally, you can learn it."
At this point, Yue Chan grew a little excited. Her disappointment at losing to Lin Fan vanished completely, replaced by confidence and composure.
"Now you know how powerful I am, right? You only defeated one of my bodies. If both bodies merged, there's no telling who would win." Yue Chan smiled, brimming with pride.
This was also the foundation of her confidence. An ordinary person's Dao heart would have shattered long ago after losing repeatedly to the same opponent.
"That still doesn't change the fact that you've lost to me seven times," Lin Fan said, knocking her down a peg, a sly gleam in his eyes.
"You..." Yue Chan's face darkened, but she could not refute the truth. Finally, she snorted and declared, "Just you wait. When my two bodies merge, my divine art will reach perfection. Then I'll definitely defeat you."
"Yes, yes, I know. Little Yueyue is the strongest, invincible under heaven. This humble fellow will have to trouble you for guidance in the future," Lin Fan said, pretending to beg for mercy.
"As long as you know!" Yue Chan lifted her head, proud as a little phoenix. Her luminous white cheeks shone brilliantly in the sunlight, flawless and perfect.
Lin Fan shook his head and muttered a disparaging remark. "What a tsundere!"
But Yue Chan seemed not to hear him. She remained immersed in the joy of Lin Fan praising her and bowing his head. Even if it was only lip service and rather perfunctory, it was still incredibly rare.
"Do you want to cultivate the Primary-Secondary Body Method too? When your divine embryos unite in the future, your strength will soar!"
"Not interested. I just need to believe that I'm invincible. There's no need to create another body. It's too much trouble, and one plus one isn't necessarily stronger than the original one." Lin Fan refused without hesitation.
This silly girl might be delighted now, but who knew how much she would regret it in the future, or how ugly her expression would become?
"Right, didn't you have something you wanted to tell me earlier?" Lin Fan asked. One interruption had led them into a long conversation about something else entirely.
Then Yue Chan's voice suddenly softened. Smiling, she said, "Actually, I wanted to ask you for a favor, junior brother..."
Lin Fan looked suspicious. "What is it? Let me hear it first."
"You should know that our Heaven Mending Sect has a great enemy, the Heaven Severing Sect. Our sects have always been at odds, our doctrines clash, and our heirs compete with one another."
As Yue Chan explained, her gaze settled on Lin Fan with burning intensity. A smile played at the corners of her lips, as though she had thought of something wonderful.
"Go on," Lin Fan said, though he had already guessed most of what Yue Chan had in mind.
"In our generation, the Heaven Severing Sect also has a holy maiden. Her age and strength are about the same as mine, and neither of us can get the better of the other. So we agreed on a different kind of battle: choosing someone else to fight on our behalf..." Anticipation filled Yue Chan's voice as she blinked her gemlike eyes.
"So you want me to fight for you and defeat the current Heaven Severing Sect Heir, Demoness, your sworn rival?" Lin Fan smiled, without the slightest surprise in his voice.
"Exactly." Yue Chan smiled gracefully, revealing even, crystalline white teeth.
Lin Fan had now reached the heavenly passage extreme realm. Yue Chan thought that if her junior brother fought for her, he would surely beat Demoness flat this time and leave her in a wonderful mood.
However, Lin Fan's next words instantly made her face fall.
"I don't do anything without something in it for me." Lin Fan lay lazily on the large rock. If he had that much spare time, he would rather think about how to go further in the Cave Heaven Realm.
If he followed Milk Baby's method, he would merely be copying someone else's path. But those who learned from him would live, while those who imitated him would die!
Lin Fan understood that principle. He was not the Desolate Heaven Emperor, nor could he become the Desolate Heaven Emperor.
To surpass him, he had to blaze a different trail and forge his own Dao.
Now, however, Yue Chan was unhappy. Their sect had finally gained a genius like this, yet he refused to help her.
"Junior brother... as one of our Heaven Mending Sect's heirs, shouldn't you join me in dealing with the Heaven Severing Sect Heir? I'm your senior sister, you know. Can you really bear to let me fight all alone?" Yue Chan pulled pleading faces, her words dripping with calculated sweetness.
"All alone? I doubt it. Don't you have plenty of simps? They're more than enough. I'll sit this one out." Lin Fan shrugged. He found the whole thing utterly boring, like children playing house.
Yue Chan froze, her expression changing in an instant. She frowned. "Aren't you unable to leave? How do you know about my affairs?"
"Heh, is it that hard to guess? You're a holy maiden. With your looks and social finesse, all you need to do is wave on the street, and a whole crowd will fall at your feet and risk their lives for you." Lin Fan was speechless. After spending time with her, he already knew what sort of personality Yue Chan had.
She was both tsundere and a little devious, with no shortage of cunning. She knew how to maintain her holy maiden's dazzling image and use everything around her to achieve her goals.
In the original story, she and Demoness were two complete extremes. One knew how to conceal herself; the other followed her whims without hiding anything.
At once, Yue Chan's brow darkened. Wasn't he calling her a "social butterfly"?
I'm so mad. I really want to beat this junior brother to death!
Calm down, calm down. I still need him right now. I can deal with him another day when I get the chance, Yue Chan silently told herself.
Soon, her expression became gentle again, and she smiled slightly. "Don't worry, junior brother. I won't ask you to help for nothing. Afterward, I'll give you a World-Breaking Talisman."
"No problem, senior sister! Whoever you want beaten up, I'll beat them up. It's just Demoness. Watch me take her down with ease." Lin Fan immediately sprang to his feet, his delicate little face utterly serious.
"Uh..."
Yue Chan's face twitched. If she hadn't known this fellow so well, she would have thought his entire nature had changed. He really wouldn't release the hawk until he saw the hare...
"But I'm still being kept under wraps. What if I can't leave?" Lin Fan asked again.
In all his years at the Heaven Mending Sect, apart from staying in this pure land and meeting the sect leader and a few elders, he had never left this place or met anyone else.
Even the vast majority of people in the sect had only heard that he was a First Generation. No one had ever seen him, and they did not even know whether he was male or female.
"Don't worry. I have a way. You won't need to leave this place." Yue Chan smiled mysteriously.
