Background / History
Viève comes from Fauville Monastery, a retreat on Fauville Mountain southeast of Sushit City. Although she hears Charlotte’s confession at Saint Roch Cathedral, she is not introduced as a resident member of its ordinary clergy 11.
Her family background remains unconfirmed. Charlotte initially suspects noble origins because of her bearing, then later considers whether she was an orphan adopted by the monastery. Viève herself confirms that she wants to be worthy of the saint whose name she bears, but does not confirm Charlotte’s theories about her upbringing 11 54 99.
Through her own practice, Viève discovered that a potion’s name could guide the behavior needed to master it. Only afterward did she learn the term Acting Method. During this process, she swore an oath to the Eternal Blazing Sun not to volunteer information about the method to people who did not already know it 106.
Appearance
Viève is a young-looking, slender woman with a beautiful face and a noble, sacred bearing; Charlotte initially judges that she does not look much older than herself 11 21.
- Hair and eyes: Long golden-blond hair and green eyes 18.
- Religious dress: A white nun’s habit or outer robe, with her hair tucked beneath a veil; she also wears a hooded white cloak during the printing-factory rescue 18 19 35.
- Emblem: A Sun Holy Emblem worn at her chest or neckline 12 18.
- Operational clothing: A fitted white shirt, dark waistcoat, and practical trousers 39 45.
- Disguise: For the City Hall operation, she conceals her clothing beneath a gray linen robe and wraps her hair in a plain silk scarf to pass as Charlotte’s maid 37.
Personality
Viève speaks softly and usually maintains a gentle expression, even while discussing cultists or preparing for combat. She patiently explains mysticism to Charlotte, but becomes stern when warning her that Beyonder status does not place her above ordinary people or exempt her from the Inquisition’s authority 11 20 21.
Her protection is practical rather than unconditional. The Church uses Charlotte’s situation to draw out surviving cultists, and Viève later recruits her for operations and artifact testing. She nevertheless continues protecting Charlotte, gives her instruction, and seeks resources for her advancement 12 18 37 46 106.
Her devotion is sincere: Arrodes accepts her statement that she is striving to fulfill God’s expectations and deserve her saint’s name. She is also willing to take risks for an investigation, volunteering to question the mirror and combining requests despite its potential punishment 98 99.

- Explains how early mastery can support a special advancement application before the Church’s usual three-year waiting period 77.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Sun Holy Emblem — Worn at her chest; used in purification rituals and combat, and held while she prays 12 35 38 46.
- Truth-testing Holy Bible — A parchment-bound Church artifact used during Charlotte’s confession. Lies cause both the book and the person swearing to heat up, with severity determining the temperature. - Gold-inlaid ritual dagger — Used to establish a Wall of Spirituality 35.
- Holy water — Supplied to Charlotte for defense and used during dangerous spirit questioning 12 40.
- Mysticism booklet — Given to Peripheral Members; contains basic instruction, ritual magic, and methods for making certain charms 35 93.
- Dagger of Judgment, 3-1452 — A Church artifact she supervises and tests, not her personal weapon. Its remorse effect forces her to put it down in under twenty seconds and pray before recovering 45 46.
Relationships

- Rescues Charlotte at Green Randall’s printing factory and confirms that the Church has been protecting her covertly 18.

Julian Wright and the Dagger of Judgment
- Leads a three-member Purification-er team to City Hall, posing as Charlotte’s maid while Charlotte approaches Julian Wright 37.
- Attacks Julian and destroys his shadow creature. Julian’s apparent escape draws her through the window, leaving Charlotte to confront his concealed body 38 39.
- Questions his spirit, learns of the cult’s unidentified female Supervisor, and cuts off the dangerous recitation of its patron’s title 40.
- Reports the possibility that Charlotte’s dagger absorbed Julian’s power, then explains its new designation and effects as 3-1452, the Dagger of Judgment 42 45.
- Tests Charlotte’s unusual resistance to its remorse effect and lends it to her for further testing rather than assigning ownership 46.

- Leaves with Jellen to check Earl Foulis’s castle for dangers following an intruder’s appearance at a ball 93.
- Assists the Machinery Hivemind with two Harbor District murders. Her question to Arrodes identifies the murderer as Tres Tamara and shows him at the Old Church Ruins 97 99.
